Could A Francoeur To The Giants Trade Be In The Mets Future?

OK slow day so let’s try and make the most of it.

A recent tweet from Henry Schulman the Giants beat writer for the San Francisco Chronicle said that apparently the Giants and Brewers discussed the possibility of trading Corey Hart to the Giants. The Brewers wanted Jonathan Sanchez or Madison Bumgarner in return but Sabean is not eager to trade either.

So could the Mets come up with a package that included Jeff Francoeur that could maybe entice the Giants and get them in return Madison Bumgarner or a Jonathan Sanchez?

How far would you go and would you even want them on your team?

I think Frenchy has an import role to play on the team, even coming off the bench.

If the team wants to trade Frenchy, I’d wait till the off season.

Plus, Ollie is due back any day now :)

Stop it !! I’m going to get sick

“Plus, Ollie is due back any day now :)

You trying to scare me right?

    3. njstuckintx

That last statement made me throw up a little in my mouth…

    4. metsfan4decades

Ollie? Are you saying you think Franceour will have some influence on Ollie? LOL.

      1. CaseStreet

you never know, Frenchy might be able to team Ollie how to throw hard

  2. DNDJohan aka kistics

I don’t think Frenchy would get one of those players back.

    1. Mr North Jersey

Alone no, but how about a Frenchy, Thole, Cohoon type combo?

      1. stickguy

Leave THole out of this. Keep your hands off of him He is mind.

Besides, I don’t think the Giants are looking for a young catcher at the moment.

Now, if it is Frenchy, Tejada/satin, Gee/cahoon, then ship them off.

THe devil is always in the details.

        1. Mr North Jersey

          LoL

        2. Mr North Jersey

What if we switched it up and say added a Pagan instead?

          1. stickguy

Hmm, now I have to figure out if you are making a pun, or really want to trade Pagan instead!

If the Giants said they would trade Pagan + tejada/satin for Baumgarden? That you do. For Sanchez? different thought process.

I don’t see pagan going anyplace, unless the mets think one of their MiL CFs (F mart or Kirk) is ready to cmoe up and play regularly.

Frenchy is certainly (IMO) worth less than pagan in a trade, but he is also much more replaceable.

          2. Mr North Jersey

LoL as much as I would like taking credit for that pun the truth is I am just not that clever.

I actually was suggesting possibly considering trading Angel Pagan instead.

O.K., call me shell shocked from last year but what happens if Beltran comes back and goes down again with the same injury? TRS reported last night in the dugout that he had some info posted on your fantasy league about one side of Beltran’s knee being improved and the other side showed no improvement – and that’s practically after a year of rest.

Frenchy might not be much with a bat but if Beltran isn’t available, I’d still like to see him as part of the OF rather than one of the minor leaguers who aren’t that good defensively – at least for the rest of this year.

    1. Mr North Jersey

Yes Beltran did say recently that 1 of his bone bruises showed improvement and another remained the same.

“Beltran said his most recent MRI exam showed that one part of his bone bruise is improving, and another part has remained the same, but it feels better than it did last year when he returned in September.”

        Thanks for the link.

      2. stickguy

I thought it was pretty much a given that Beltran would never actually be “fixed”, since he has the arthritis, just “managed”? So a lot of this has to come down to his pain and pain killer tollerance. And who knows, maybe the brace does take enough of the stress off to make it more tollerable?

If nothing else, I can’t see how anyone would even speculate about Carlos being with the Mets past the end of his contract, especially since they are not allowed to offer him arbitration.

      3. DNDJohan aka kistics

From one of the recent interviews I saw, Beltran said that he’ll play as hard as he can to the best of his abilities. I didn’t care much for it at that time, but it sounds like he’s not 100%, but just playing with pain.

If that’s the case, Frenchy should be kept along with Pagan.

  4. stickguy

Oh, you tease you. I thought you were reporting an actual rumor, not just making up “what ifs”!

But yeah, I would be interested in doing that, but if the Giants won’t give up those guys for Hart, why would they give them up for Frenchy, with way worse #s? They need offense, not an arm for RF!

both those pitchers are having good years, and baum would be a heist. can not see the Giants trading him for anything. But I would still take sanchez right now.

and while I kow Frenchy has his BFFs here, he is expendable. You can always find a 4th OF!

I also look at it this way. If Beltran comes back and can play nearly FT, then Frenchy should be a 4th OF/bench guy (and wildly overpaid for that role), and way less valuable than another quality SP.

If Beltran goes back down and they need a FT RF with Pagan going back to FT CF duty, then I worry that the team will not have the horses anyway to make the playoffs this year (it will be close, but certainly not as easy). But I also don’t think it wil lbe that hard to find a replacement RF to give comparable production if they have to.

so, in summary, if they can get a good SP for a deal centered around Frenchy (with the big IF being who else goes with him), then do it before the other team changes it’s mind.

Simple answer to your above question North Jers is….NO.
Frenchy is a spare part or throw in
in any deal and why in the world would the Giants want to move
either of those two young Pitchers??

    1. Mr North Jersey

      :-)

    2. Mr North Jersey

I tell you what though give me Frenchy in right any day over Nate Schierholtz.

      1. fongy2

Maybe….But the more I see of Frenchy, the more I understand why
        his hometown teamgave
        up on him so quickly.
b/t/w, I’m with you 100% on Bay from the
        earlier thread. i con’t
to be surprised how forgiving most Met fans, especially my man
        Brock-Kingman is of
        him so far.
        To date, his Met career
        is reminding me ALOT of
        Kevin McReyonlds!
Solid enough numbers BUT not clutch at all..
AND certainly not what we expected for what its costing the Mets.
Also, as far as HRs in Citifield, two things…#1) He plays half his games on the road…AND #2) I just witnessed Melky and Infante hit dingers to
        beat us there WITH no
power provided by the Pitcher who was throwing knucklers up
        there.
        As I’ve said before,for
        what hes being paid…
He should be buying lots of dinners and drinks for guys like
        Dickey,Takahashi,Pagan,
        Cora,Davis,Blanco and
Barajas…All working on the cheap and all
        have contributed ALOT
        more to the 48-40 First
        half than Bay himself
has. If it wasn’t for THOSE guys,we’d be something like 38-50,
        Jerry would be gone AND
        outside of Omar, no one
        would be gettin’ more
        heat than Bay.

        1. metsfan4decades

IDK…so far Bay reminds me of Beltran’s year one of his contract here. I didn’t expect this level of drop off on his power numbers but I’m still hoping he’ll turn it around.

        2. Mr North Jersey

Thx for da comp on the Bay thread.

  6. fongy2

Much as I can’t stand them, you gotta give the Braves credit. When they have
a mistake/problem, the resolve it pretty quickly.

  7. DNDJohan aka kistics

And what’s with the weird looking helmets at the ASG?

  8. saltygary

Braves just picked up A-Gon from Toronto…

    1. fongy2

      Thats what I meant above!
Bigger part of the story is them giving up on Escobar.

    2. DNDJohan aka kistics

You made me gasp a little bit with A-Gon… as in Adrian Gonzalez..

      1. saltygary

Lol Sorry. That would of been bad if that was the acquisition.

  9. GravediggerHebner

Those who want Wally Backman to replace Jerry Manuel take note: Wally had his 6th place hitter bunt a runner over up by 1 run in the 4th inning yesterday.

    http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/394956/WallyBall.png

    1. Mr North Jersey

Clearly Wally feels the best way to impress the Mets is by imitating Manuel.

Someone must be feeding him bad advice.

      I wonder who?

      1. fongy2

        OR………Wally’s hitting the bottle again!?!?………

    2. Hazmet

In defense of Wally with the weather on the east coast last night in Lowell Rain was in the area and light rain started circa 8:54. Entirely possible he was playing for insurance runs planning for a rain shortened game after 5 innings. If so, then bunting to get extra runs on the board in the 4th would make sense. Also, the post cites the 6 spot was put up but it doesn’t mention that the Cyclones plated 2 in the 4th to take a 3-2 lead to 5-2 with rain in the area. imo, I like that move under those conditions. But then again it’s easier just to look at it as a bunt in the 4th and not consider other possibilities as to why.

      1. Hazmet

        Also Cyclones won 12-9

  10. GravediggerHebner

I like the outside the box aspect of considering trading Francoeur to the Giants but I have a hard time imagining that they would want him or at least that they would give up anything useful to the 2010 Mets for him.

    1. youngvalerawest

I think that if the Giants want Hart then they’d take Frenchy as a consolation prize. They’re essentially the same crap except Hart is hitting a lot of homers this year.

  11. Kingman 26

    Hey Mr N–

Yes, I am sold on Pagan as an everyday player, and with Bay/Pagan/Beltran/FMart/Capt Kirk for 2011, if we can get anything for Frenchy, yes sir.

And on the other thread, thanks for putting in the link to the revenue/salary story; am out of town and put that together real quickly. In addition, was it you who added the Baseballreference links to my report card story? If so, thank you; classy move which made my story look better and more informative.

And I don’t really offend easily; I might, just MIGHT be a TAD argumentative….

    :-)

But, to paraphrase what Jules Winfield said to Ringo at the end of Pulp Fiction, I am trying Mr N, I am trying REAL hard to be the shepherd….

    1. Mr North Jersey

It was no problem at all with the link to the revenue/salary story. As far as the other article I can’t take credit for that. Must of been one of our other fellow authors.

Kudos on the movie reference. Pulp Fiction has a sh*t load of great quotes.

Allow me to “retort” with one that always makes me smile when I hear it.

“Sh*t Negro! That’s all you had to say!”

      ;-)

      1. Kingman 26

HAHA! I LOVE that movie! One of the all-time quote machines as far as movies go.

“I don’t watch TV.” “But you are aware that there is an invention called television and on that invention they show shows?” “Yeah.”

Ah Mr N, as Don Corleone once said, I shall not be the one to break the peace we have made here today.

  12. oleosmirf

no way Francouer gets you Bumgarner. Id trade Francouer and Mejia for Bumgarner…

    1. Mr North Jersey

I agree that is why I said “So could the Mets come up with a package that included Jeff Francoeur”.

      1. oleosmirf

how about Francouer, Mejia and F-Mart.
