Well I guess if there is a silver lining that we can take out of last night’s game it is that at least both the Braves and Phillies also lost. With my work schedule being what it is ( up at 4 a.m. on most days), I was mercifully spared from watching the heartbreaking defeats of the last two nights. I swear this series is quickly reminding me of that road trip in San Diego in ’08 when we lost almost every game of that series by one run. Well so far I have been wrong about this team being well rested with the few days off during the All Star break, but to be shutout two consecutive nights with the line up that we have is well unacceptable ! So hopefully we can give Johan some run support today and cut the giants down to size. So LETS GO METS !!!

” No need to panic !! All is well !!”
And with that said….. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!
Today would have been one time Mets shortstop from ’64-’66 ,Roy McMillan’s 81st birthday (1929) . He would later on be both a coach and manager for the Mets.
Mets coach from 1981,Deron Johnson would have been 72 today (1938) .
Mo Vaughn was arrested yesterday by San Francisco Police, and charged with vandalism and possession of a controlled substance. It turns out Mo had bought some hallucinogens from the Haight Ashberry section of town and was so high that he tried to drink from the Giant Coke Bottle sign at Pac Bell Park. No word of if he will be granted bail.

btw as per the mlbtr
Oliver Perez is currently on the disabled list with a knee issue, but that hasn’t stopped Mets’ GM Omar Minaya from trying to unload the enigmatic lefty. ESPNNewYork.com’s Adam Rubin reports that the Mets approached the Royals about swapping Perez for Gil Meche, but were told no thanks. Talks with other teams have gone nowhere.
Perez, still just 28, hasn’t pitched since the end of May because of the injury, though the team didn’t exactly want him on the mound anyway. He had been sent to the bullpen after allowing 24 runs and walking more batters (28) than he struck out (27) in his first seven starts, and continued to pitch poorly in mop-up duty after the demotion. The injury was suspicious enough that the league decided to investigate, which is understandable after he refused a minor league assignment not long before.
Both Perez and Meche will earn the same $12MM this year and next, so the money would have been a wash if a trade did occur. Perez started a rehab assignment last Saturday, so the team has 30 days from then to activate him. It’s hard to imagine any team taking on Perez without the Mets eating a significant portion of the money owed to him.
can’t say omar aint trying – maybe he should call the cubs about zambrano

No big Z. Just say No!
But I like the Meche thought. Meche hasn’t been all that healthy (or effective) this year if memory serves, but anything is better the O-lay.
Now, say you do flop OP for Meche. Don’t tell me that is the only move you make, would it? Cause you aren’t taking Santana, Pelfrey, Niese out of the rotation. Dickey has to stay as well. That would be Santana, Pelfrey, Niese, Dickey, Meche. Unless Lilly is still an option and you have it all as depth… I would worry Omar would think that is his job is done, mission accomplished, now to find a reclamation project for the BP… Uff da if that is the case.

Actually Meche I think is injured. I think the thought is they can leave him on the DL where as Perez they have to make a move.

Is that possible? Move one DL guy for another? Or move a person for one on the DL?

Meche: On the 60-day disabled list (May 26, right shoulder bursitis)
I guess you can. He would not be eligible until about July 26th and then you would still get 30 days of rehab.

I too was thinking about that ’08 series last night where we lost 3 games by 1 run.
I’m not getting Jerry’s thinking at times. You’ve got to put your best team in the lineup. Knowing Reyes was out, knowing Bay hasn’t stepped up yet, Ike struggling, Tejada light hitting, Beltran rusty, Pagan should have been in that lineup. I know he made a deal with Franceour, or with himself, to play him against lefties but we need all the help we can get right now.
Here’s hoping Wright takes Cain deep today and one hit up the middle that sails right by his ear…..

Good points all BUT you know,
when guys like Lincecun and a
re-born Zito are goin’ well,
they’re tough to beat.
I doubt movin’ guys around in the line-up changes that.

Yeah, and hindsight is always 20/20 too. Zito hasn’t been all that sharp this year at times and probably no one expected that performance last night. I just can’t help thinking that we made it look easier for him than it should have been.

was it zito, or the lineup? Probably both.
anytime you have a line up with 6 guys with a .302 OBP or less in it, you are starting in a hole (and not likely to see a lot of baserunners). That did include Beltran, so maybe we should give him a pass after 1 game!
but, they still had 4 guys that right now are not even ML caliber hitters. Certainly not starter level. 4/8 effective black holes is not going to cut it.
The only positive was seeing Dickey and Neise pitch well. Just a bummer to waste it.
But, at least Jerry came out of the gate on fire. In 2 games, he has most of the blogsphere up in arms. Good job man! Can’t wait until he is gone next year. And it is him or me baby.
