Barry good
The San Francisco Giants scored once off of New York Mets starter Jonathon Niese (6-4). That was all they would need. Niese pitched a fine game aided by 4 double plays, but Giants starter Barry Zito (8-4) allowed the Mets only 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 10 over 8 strong innings, then Giants closer Brian Wilson finished up for his 24th save as the Giants shut out the Mets for the 2nd consecutive night. The Giants only run came in the 4th inning. With 1 out Aubrey Huff walked then advanced to 3rd base on a double by Buster Posey. Huff scored from there on a fielder’s choice ground out by old Met-killer Pat Burrell when Alex Cora tried but failed to throw him out at home. San Francisco 1, New York 0. Called up as insurance for Jose Reyes‘ injured side infielder Justin Turner made his Mets debut drawing a walk in the 8th as a pinch-hitter. He later helped turn the last of the 4 double plays.

It’s not you man. It’s the starting lineup that (including the pitcher) had 6 of 9 guys with an OBP lower than .303 (Frenchy coming in at .302 was the only guy of the 6 over .300).

Here is an interesting stat from tonight’s game. In two at-bats Jon Niese saw 15 pitches while in six combined at-bats Rod Barajas & Jeff Francoeur saw 17 pitches. The Mets hitters seem to subscribe to the stick ball theory that you see the pitch you swing at it. Location, etc. is totally irrelevant. Perhaps the Mets hitters need a little league coach yelling “be a looker.â€

Yum…..pasta..
Seriously, I’m tired of ‘tipping’ my cap to the opposing pitcher. I knew looking at that lineup tonight Niese was going to have to be just about perfect. And he damn near was. He just wasn’t as perfect as Zito.
Tejada is 20 and can’t really hit ML pitching yet.
Ike is struggling as most rookies will do first year.
Bay hasn’t really earned that contract yet we gave him.
Cora only has decent stats with runners in scoring position.
Barajas is well, Barajas.
Franceour still swinging at everything. That might have him connecting about 20% of the time for a hit.
Beltran is rusty.
Reyes is out.
Blanco is on a milk carton.
Let’s see…that leaves Pagan and Wright. And that’s not gonna get it done right now against decent pitching.
Here is hoping they’re not going to continue the trend of not scoring for Johan either……

well, they have to get past taka 1st. But dont expect too much if they get shutout again tomorrow.
Get thole in there and Reyes back, and it looks a little less ugly. and sadly, they get castillo back soon I think (sadly, in that he might actually be a better option right now)/
I like this turner guy though. Good end up being a nice tatis replacement. Not that I am setting the bar too high for him!

Whoops…one day ahead of myself.
Turner looked real good turning that double play. I really don’t know much about his bat so we’ll see. I don’t think he’s going to get much playing time and really have no idea how long he’ll be up here. Someone has to go down when Castillo comes back, which I’m hearing might be for the LA series.

gotta give credit to Zito who had complete command of his curve which completely ate up Wright and especially Davis.
the lineup certainly didn’t help things but I dont think it would changed the outcome…Zito was that good. Im not pressing the panic button as we have been unlucky to run into great pitching but if this offense sucks in Arizona then there is a problem…

if you cant score runs in arizona, you can not score runs anywhere.

Is it possible to get carpal tunnel syndrome from tipping your hat against every pitcher you face?

I wrote a poem:
No more Ollie,
And no John Maine
Yet we still can’t manage to win a game
Maybe it’s because our Dominican who’s fast
Is sitting down, with splinters up his a$$
Look at R.A. pitch
And John Niese too
If Jose wasn’t a b*tch
We’d be eating “Giants stew”
As history has shown, in recent years
Jose needs to play, or I burst into tears
With Mr. Reyes, the Mets can score
The same way Tiger can do with a whore
Time and time again, he sits on the pine
And the Mets fall below the poverty line
As a gynecologist I know would say,
Sir, remove your tampon, get out there, and play
It’s easy to see, they suck when he sits
He must play to make the Mets win
A surgeon should be hired to give him tits
Because he’s always acting like a woman

I refuse to be discouraged.
Niese and Dickey just threw two GREAT games on the road, and they will be numbers 4 and 5 next year.
The float is off the blocks, out on its sea trials (doing even better than Titanic in its first runs), and ready for the never-ending parade which 2011 will be.
Onward!!!
Have a wonderful day everyone!

As serious as this question could be, would you do that (obviously more would have to come along with Ike)?

Well perhaps you could get Wolf somehow. He has not been very good this year but….
