Man, the nationals suck.
and the braves keep plodding along at the same pace. I do, however, think they are prim andidates for a major slump/tail off, or just having the wheels come off the bus.

LOL just remember if not for Cuzzi the Mets would be 9-16 and a half game behind those Nats that you just finished saying that they suck.

good thing then that they don’t keep standings for random irrelevant time periods. Just for the full season.
And by that measure, the Nats stink.

I am getting really curious to see what all the roster moves are going to be this week. Now that Ollie is supposedly almost i”in the house”, although sinc ehe started Saturday, he would not be activated until Wednesday most likely.
will they finally clear up the extra catcher issue? Or remove Tejada since they have a glut of MI that can’t hit?
I would rather keep turner up and demote Tejada. Hell, I would be interested in seeing Turner get a string of starts at 2B, with slappy resting on the bench.
Or ship ollie and luis someplace. Anywhere, no return required. Just make them go away.

you think they will stay with a 6 man pen, when 1 of the 6 is Ollie?
I still think the next change of plan is Ollie starting Thursday.

well there is the chance he never gets added to roster if a trade can be facilitated before Takahashi starts.

speaking of pick ups (where we?) An interesting name popped up at MLBTR today. Jason Izzy. Recovered from TJ surgery, and auditioning. Says he only needs 2 weeks in the minors to be fully ready to go.
Hey, worth kicking th etires and making a modest investment if he looks good. And about time they finally got something out of generation K!
I am also intriqued by Guthrie from the O’s. If they can get him relatively cheap (prospect wise), he has about the best stuff of any of the available mid-level starters on the market. And maybe a real team, in a pennant race, that plays D behind him will finally put him over the top?
Also fits my desired profile, in that he is under reasonable team control for another couple of years.

one more for the sticktionary. Smartass.
ancient keyboard has a lot of keys that stick, in particular the space bar.
If you want to to proof and fix all of my posts, it will cut my output by at least 1/2.

I would much rather increase your output by at least 1/2.

Maybe you will hit a big trifecta when you come to Saratoga and use some of the dough for a new keyboard.
But, if the keys no longer STICK, will you have to change your name?
What the hell does Sitckguy mean anyway?

i still dont understand why they would send Thole down and bring up Ollie Perez?????? If Ollie has to be recalled then send down
Thole is batting over .500 and Barajas can’t buy a hit right now…i mean what happened to using common sense. I mean isnt the object to win the most games? if so Thole on the team gives them the best shot of winning correct???
I dont care if Alex Cora or Henry Blanco is the backup 3B, David Wright has played every single inning at 3B except for June 12th. We dont need a backup 3B at all. If David gets hurt what happends is Cora or Blanco plays the remainder of that game at 3B and they call up Evans, Turner or Hessman to play there everyday while David is on the DL or you send Thole then.
sending Thole down b/c you might rest David one day 3 weeks from now makes no sense…

Well, according to a Rubin tweet, here is tonight’s lineup:
Mets lineup: Reyes, Pagan, Wright, Beltran, Davis, Bay, Barajas, Castillo, Pelfrey
Switch out Barajas for Thole and I’m thinking right now, that’s the best possible lineup we can field.
Let’s Go Mets!

agreed..who knows maybe some of the pitchers dont like throwing to him and have expressed it privately to Jerry…thats all i can think of…

And if that’s true, it’s possible we as fans will never know.
I hope that’s not true though. Outside of a trade, I’m thinking Thole should be one of our 2 catchers going forward in 2011.

I believe the Mets had 2 CG shutouts last year. And Thole caught them both.
I do remember a game this year where he caught pelf (back when Pelf could still pitch), and the big guy was very complimentary of Thole.

7/19/2010-8:18pm at 8:18 pm (UTC -4)
yea i mean obviously pelf would say he was good but i havent seen any issues with him behind the plate…
i mean I know Rod and Hank are not going anywhere but i mean Thole > having a backup 3B/2nd MI

I agree, that is what I would do. But as Oleo notes, we have no idea if there is a logical reason not to, as opposed to jerry just being an idiot.
But, if he needs more work on the catching skills, please send him back down to play everyday in Buffalo. They can find another LH PH.

i just dont understand why he isnt starting every single game against RHP. He’s easily the best option we have offensively at that position…

regarding Barajas. I knew he has been bad, but not this bad. Per Ted Berg:
Check it out: Since June 1, Barajas is hitting .169 with a .229 OBP and a .202 slugging. A .431 OPS. As a point of comparison, Mets pitchers have a combined .425 OPS in 2010.
I didn’t even know you could have a slugging % that low. Even Luis is no where near that.

Tejada down for Caastillo.
SO far, I agree with the moves!

yea somehow i have faith that Thole will not be sent down and Jerry will get his way to keep him here

7/19/2010-8:23pm at 8:23 pm (UTC -4)
If Jerry wants him up here, I will give him credit for a good idea.
I would give him more credit if he actually used him to catch, instead of as a PH.

Nice! Jerry gets credit! Jerry gets credit!
He has said recently that he really likes Thole, in a manly Francesa-really-likes-Inge kind of way, and maybe Thole is the Dickster’s regular catcher? Maybe Barajas, as his slugging percentage approaches Al Leiter’s, will sit more and more.
And I love Tejada going down and working on his hitting. He will be at the very least a slick-fielding place-holder for Havens for 1-2 years.

I think (hope) it goes straight from Castillo to Havens. No more no stick 2Bs please.

I looked at that chart and I noticed the Mets underplaying their Pythagorean W-L record. So I checked further.
2010 2 under pyth
2009 2 under pyth
2008 equaled pyth
2007 2 over pyth
2006 6 over pyth
2005 6 under pyth
2004 5 under pyth
2003 3 under pyth
2002 4 under pyth
2001 9 over pyth
Then I stopped because I realized I had no idea what if anything this meant. Hmm.
oleosmirf
7/19/2010-8:14pm at 8:14 pm (UTC -4)
it means W-L record based on runs scored vs runs allowed. it means when we lose, the games are closer then when we win…
come to think of it…when was the last time we lost by 5+ runs?
GravediggerHebner
7/19/2010-8:28pm at 8:28 pm (UTC -4)
I understand the basic concept of the Pythagorean record but I didn’t/don’t understand what it might indicate when a team is “better” or “worse” than it’s Pythagorean record.
Do I understand correctly that you’re saying when a team has a worse W-L record than their Pyth record that is indicative that the team is losing more close games than it is winning?
The last time the Mets lost by 5+ was June 28, 10-3 loss to FLA. In case it’s relevant the day before the Mets won 6-0 over MIN and the day before that they lost 6-0.

It’s a little-known fact, but he did it in his spare time right after he finished the more famous triangle theorem.
