Did You Know?

Did you know?

  • That if the Mets win tonight’s game it would be the 1st time they won a game not started by Santana since Takahashi won back on July 4th vs the Nationals. Final score 9-5.
  • That over the last 14.2 innings Niese has only given up 2 earned runs but the Mets have only scored 1 earned run. Making Niese 0-2 over that span.

Thanks, jerz. Like any of us needed the reminders of how god-awful our offense has been this month…. :)

I posted this on end of last thread but funny enough to repost here. It’s a graphic over on Beerleaguer showing Moyer’s arm after last night’s loss:

      :-)

    2. stickguy

had to send that one to a big Phils fan that I used to work with.

Anyone think we’re getting Oswalt, Haren or Myers?
    I’ll take Myers.
Wanted him in the off-season and still think he’d be a good fit.
Could def. see Oswalt going to the Phils and Haren to St. Louis.

    1. CaseStreet

      Santana
      Myers
      Pelfrey
      Niese
      Dickey

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

        Halladay
        Oswalt
        Hamel
        Blanton
        Kendrick

        1. stickguy

well, whatever amount you think the phils top 3 are better than the Mets by, the bottom 2 more than offset it.

because no matter how you rank the 10 combined, blanton and kendrick are going to, by far, bring up the rear!

          1. njstuckintx

            Is that a Kaz reference?

          2. stickguy

only if you want it to be.

I know enough to not Mess with Texas. Y’all carry guns.

The Float has RPGs, anti-aircraft missiles, Stingers, and a few surprises.

Just not going to take any chances with angry Yankee fans on the Parade route in October 2011…and 2012…

      2. CaseStreet

yup, though their lineup has issues, especially if they trade their best hitter (Werth)

    2. stickguy

I was hot for Myers too, esepcially when he went for 1 year, and pretty cheap.

Also liked how he has experience at the back end of the pen.

  3. njstuckintx

This is turning into an S&M site. I come here to discuss Mets and leave with no feelings of hope. As that Irish chick said in Caddy Shack, Tanks for nuttin! :P

    1. Mr North Jersey

Don’t you have an interview to go to? ;-)

      1. njstuckintx

eventually… Got to bust out that confederate flag tie to blend in down in ATL…

        1. Mr North Jersey

          The South will rise again!

          1. njstuckintx

According to them, they never lost. They are just regrouping. Silly Southerners…

          2. stickguy

well, they got even by taking all the manufacturing jobs from the north (if you spend much time in upstate NY, PA, etc. you would know!)

Of course, many of them have since been outsourced to some country I would be afraid to step foot in.

          3. Hazmet

It is scary that even Mexico manufacturing is considered expensive labor now a days. Different world. Engineering rates too.

          4. Hazmet

Just remember it wasn’t the Civil War, it was “the war of northern aggression” as we were told in Charleston, SC.

And just for giggles, my wifes reply to hearing “the south’s gonna do it again”… what lose?

          5. Kingman 26

HA! Are you from/in Charleston? I was just at the Isle of Palms last week.

            Absolutely love that area.

          6. Hazmet

No, I’m unfortunately a Long Island boy but I actually do love many area’s of the south. Charleston & Savannah are high on my list. It’s just a little rough bringing the Mrs. from the Bronx south of the Mason Dixon line since there’s no back down in her. It does keep me on my toes.

          7. Kingman 26

            Ha! I can imagine!

I am from North Jersey myself, but lived in Charlotte as a kid in the 70s and have been vacationing in the Charleston area since then.

Love the history, the architecture, the food, the beaches, the hospitality—just love Charleston. Savannah is great too.

    2. Kingman 26

      You’re a good egg Noonan.

Did anyone see this anywhere mentioned in Oswalt posts:

‘Oswalt has said in interviews that he plans to retire at the end of the 2011 season.’

I would think that seriously changes the market and $$ amounts for him, wouldn’t it?

    1. njstuckintx

Wave some green under his nose and he’ll still be throwing.

      1. stickguy

yeah, if he stays healthy and can still pitch, hard to see him during down 16m for 1 more year.

My wife would kill me if I tried to do that!

  5. stickguy

at least last year there was a valid reason for a dismal offense.

I can’t quite understand wht is going on now.

I guess I will have to continue to blame Jerry, and his partners in crime Hojo and Warthen.

HOpefully this year is the reverse of 2007 and 2008. Look dead now, and pull a Pheonix move, and rise frm the ashes. Pretty much like the Phils and ROckies have done recently.

Actually, the Rockies could be a good model. Be stumbling and on the fring about this point of the year, replace the manager, and finally have all the talent come together for a major run to the playoffs.

40-20 over the last 60 (starting 1 day before the deadline, with AZ at home) should do it. depending on the results of the interim 8 games, that is right around 90 wins.

Not easy, but in theory doable (might take another SP though to pull off). Plus it would include a bunch of wins vs. braves and Phils.

68 games left. 44-24 = 90 wins (.648 winning %). Not easy, but what it will take most likely.

anyway, use this as the criteria for deciding if any proposed trade rumor is worth going for.

    1. oleosmirf

to me as long as we have someone who gives us quality starts it will be enough…of course Pelfrey must be at least on par with Niese/Dickey…

our offense, although currently struggling, will get better as long as Reyes stays healthy and is on top form…regardless of what goes after them if Reyes is hot, the lineup will be more than fine…

I will trust the fat man when he “ensures” the mets will bring in a SP but if they dont…season over for sure…

      1. stickguy

I actually agree that they have enough talent (although much of it is woefully underperfroming).

so yeah, they have the potential (why not us!) to pull it off.

I just don’t trust the jerry factor not to sink them.

Man, this team needs the 2nd coming of Gil Hodges.

        1. oleosmirf

yea Jerry is but im more worried about Omar…

  6. gipperpdx

How is Jerry Manuel still gainfully employed????????

    1. CaseStreet

Kingman is his agent. Watch out Boras :)

      1. Kingman 26

        :-) !!!

    2. stickguy

he works for people that either don’t recognize how bad he is, or more likely, don’t care enough to pay extra to replace him.

either that, or he has pictures of Jeffy and Mrs. Met.

  7. Hazmet

What ever pitcher they may end up getting he best be a pitcher that can hit given our putrid “O” of late.

  8. DNDJohan aka kistics

Looks like the Phils are willing to trade Happ and couple prospects for Oswalt’s contract.

Damn that’s a lot especially if you are taking on the entire contract plus picking up the 2012 option.

  9. trs86

    Did you know…
Oswalt is absolutely crazy AND as are the Phillies.

    LOL
So Oswalt wants to stay in Houston if the acquiring team does not pick up his option forcing 2 more years at 16M after this one.

The Phillies would be giving up Happ who in my opinion saved their 2009 season.

Now to counter that showing how even more insane the Phillies are they are asking for either BJ Upton or Wade Davis for a Jason Werth rental.

Uh… either my philosophy on the media is correct or this trade has no chance of happening/ the players and teams involved are crazy.

    1. trs86

Also for those screaming to get Oswalt, if the Phillies really ARE offering Happ wouldn’t we have to offer Niese as we have no one else of that type.

      1. njstuckintx

Same with Mariners wanting Ike. Ike, Niese… untouchable in my mind.

        1. trs86

Seriously how could you even begin to justify trading Niese for Oswalt? What good would that do us?

    2. Hazmet

If this were a multiple choice I’d answer d) all of the above.

      Steep prices nowadays.
