I’m repeating what I wrote in a previous thread. Apparently Barajas’ line since the end of May is .165/.221/.227/.448. The .448 number is his OPS. Yet Jerry has gotten Barajas into 75% of the team’s games since June 26th.
You have three automatic outs at the bottom of the order on a team that is struggling to score runs. Did James Dolan purchase this team because it’s starting to resemble the NY Rangers if not, in some ways, the Knicks.
But hey perhaps Barajas and Cora will carry the Mets to victory tonight.
I see Jerry had a closed door meeting with the team before batting practice tonight. Said he hadn’t had one in a while. Maybe it’s me but…..how many of us who have jobs that include working on some sort of team – whether it’s a offce project team, construction crew, whatever, don’t have regular meetings between management and the team? It’s a good business practice and it’s just plain common sense. It’s good to go over goals occasionally, everyone hears what every one else is working on, who is resonsible for what – you get the picture.
I believe it solidifies the team to an extent, it’s an opportunity to brainstorm, employees learn from others, different perspectives are considered, etc. If a team is off track, the longer you let them flounder without trying to bring them all together, the worse it ususally gets.
Then again, I’ll not pretend to try and figure out what’s in Jerry’s mind…
More of my love for the media.
“The Mets seem to prefer Brett Myers to Ted Lilly. Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reported earlier today that the Mets maintain interest in Lilly and have cooled on Myers. The reports are not necessarily contradictory, but let’s just say the Mets have some interest in both pitchers.”
LOL so the Mets prefer Myers but have cooled on him and are now interested in both.
Man, Jerry is such a total fool. He goes out of his way to prove that he is clueless. And Omar seems to just let him wander around aimlessly in the forest, picking daisys.
And it is incredibly short sighted to have a young guy that is still developing his catching skills sitting on the bench as a PH 6 days per week.
Tool I tell you, tool. And stupid (and certainly has not done any research) since he keeps insisting that barajas is just in a slight lull, and ready to get back to raking any old time now. To bad Omar isn’t smart enough to take bad temptations away from him.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
THE CATCH: While acknowledging day games after night games and other wrinkles could force adjustments, Manuel indicated it’s now likely Rod Barajas gets three starts every five games, with Henry Blanco catching Johan Santana and Josh Thole handling knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.
Asked if he strongly considered starting Thole on Wednesday a night after the rookie catcher produced his first major league homer, Manuel said: “Rod is a guy we have to get back right. In order to do that, he has to be out there.”

I truly do not get Barajas in there tonight.
It should be Thole, or if not, Blanco.

The only thing I can think of is how he handles the pitchers. Perhaps they prefer him.

can’t they just fire jerry and get it over with?
What a freaking tool.
is he afraid of upsetting the great veteran? This isn’t quite like benching Piazza for some new guy.

and this was what, 2 games for Slappy befor ehe needed a rest?
Way to put together a roster, and line up, that have have some consistancy, and get on a roll.

All I can think of re: Castillo (besides the obvious that his 74 year old knees might need a break already) is that perhaps Jerry is rewarding Cora.
There’s no excuse for sitting Thole, who is about the only guy giving good at bats consistently right now.

I think there is a big difference in a meeting and a closed door meeting. I am sure they have meetings all the time.

“The Mets seem focused on relievers at the moment and have talked about Kelly Downs of Toronto.”
I would much rather have Scott myself but Kelly might be good too of course he would be 50 years old now.

Stick, do you think it’s possible that Jerry and or the pitchers prefer Rod?

jerry likes him for some reason. Although I don’t recall seeing anything recently indicating his handling of the pitchers had anything to do with it.

Barajas is a good defensive catcher too.
Fear not; Thole will be at the head of the Junior Core class in 2011.
