In an article written by Barry Shlachter on Foxsportssouthwest.com he reports,
“Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has been cleared by Major League Baseball to bid on the Texas Rangers, his lawyer, Clifton Jessup of Dallas, said today.”
The Owners Meetings will never be the same.

How many championships have the Mavericks won? As far as I can tell, Cuban’s Mavericks have played in and lost one NBA championship which equals the number of World Series the Mets have appeared in and lost with the Wilpons sans Doubleday as owners.

Apples to oranges my friend. No salary cap in baseball. If Cuban was free to spend how he pleased, you can bet there would be a few more championship final appearances at the very least for the Mavericks. Cuban wants to win, and I believe he’d spend like a Steinbrenner to do it……

the NBA is a completely different league…you can only win if you have 1 of the top 5-10 players in the league on your team…

Wow, great point! The 2004 Pistons, it could be argued quite well, are the ONLY team in the last 30 years to win a title without a super-elite player.
Damn, great point Oleo!
As for the Mavs, they have had one of the top 3 records in their conference 9 of the last 10 years…they have lost in the first round 3 of the last 4 though.

I just found out that Bay is actually having a typical season in the rbi department. It’s not Bay that’s the problem it’s everyone else in front of him.
They are simply not getting on base in front of Bay enough. That is the problem not Bay. He is actually driving in the same amount of runners percentage wise as he has always done throughout his career.
My apologies to Bay for thinking he was having a subpar year in the rbi department.

I can’t wait for the post that says the Mets are actually the best team in baseball percentage wise.

problem is when you dont hit HRs you dont drive in yourself…thats why I dont agree with the argument that people dont care about HRs.
unless the guys in front of you are on base at a ridiculous rate, you can’t drive in that many runs without relying on the long ball…

Interesting stats. I think Oleo is right that for power hitters you could factor in the solo shot as producing runs. Overall I have said that it would be great to see what percentage of RBI these guys are driving in.

And let us all rejoice that he is not bidding on the Phils, Braves, or Nats, or especially the Marlins–combine the Marlins’ scouting with Cuban’s spending, and yikes, that would be one hell of a team.
Keep him in the AL West.

Cuban actually reminds me of Steinbrenner. But I think he may still be in the bad phase.

I can’t wait until the first time he leaps out of his front row box (and you know that is where he will be sitting, not a luxury suite) to berate an umpire for missing a call!

How bad have we been this 2nd half?
Well with the Braves, Phillies and Nationals already having won today’s games. If we lose tonight’s game we will be closer to the last place Nationals (7 Games) than the 1st place Braves (7 1/2 Games).
Someone should tell the Mets this. Maybe it will light a fire under them to try even harder than what they have so far.
