It’s Official !! Adios Fernando – Hola Manny !

Well we all knew this was coming. The New York Mets announced earlier today that they have recalled right-handed reliever, Manny Acosta from Buffalo .To make room for him on the 25 man roster, The Mets designated right-handed reliever, Fernando Nieve assignment after last night’s game deflating loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Acosta will wear uniform #36 and will be available to pitch in tonight’s game.
This is Acosta’s second stint with the Mets this season. He went 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 12 games with the Mets before being demoted. This year. In 12.0 innings, he allowed eight hits, four runs, earned, with eight walks and 14 strikeouts.
Nieve went 2-4 with a 6.00 ERA in 40 games for the Mets this year. In 42.0 innings, he allowed 37 hits, 28 runs, earned, with 22 walks and 38 strikeouts (not good).
Well if this is the big change that Jerry was eluding to – I’m not impressed !!

I don’t believe there will be a big change by 31 July, and I’m not sure it’s worth it to do it now. Picking up a piece or two might still happen but ‘big’ would probably not be worth it now

FIRE HOJO. Seriously, what I really like them to try is changing hitting coaches. Slumping offensive for long stretches, from good hitters has been a problem for longer than a year now. Why wouldn’t they try that?

The Phillies just did and that’s after only half a year of offensive struggles – when the past 3 years they won the NL East with that very same coach. Their rationale:

The call was made by manager Charlie Manuel, who said it was one of the toughest decisions of his career. Thompson was in his seventh year as a Phillies coach. In his five years as hitting coach, Philadelphia never finished lower than second in the NL in offense.

But this year the lineup has hit a frustrating snag, and Manuel felt he had to pull the trigger in order to shake up the status quo.

“I got to the point where I looked at our hitting and I thought something had to be done,” Manuel said. “I thought that the only thing that I could possibly think of was to make a change, that it had to be done.”
