Twitter Tweet: Royals Interested In Francoeur?

#Royals like Francoeur. GM Moore had him with #Braves. $5M salary an obstacle. Also: Frenchy 1 more year of arb; potential non-tender. #MLBless than a minute ago via web

there is a reason the Royals have sucked for a long time, and it isn’t the size of their market!

Putting aside why they like him so much, the only reason I see to trade for him is if they think the mets won’t non-tender him (which would be ridiculous to me, but hey, this is the Met FO we are talking about).

actually, if they do, he is a FA, and quite possibly does not put KC at the top of the list (assuming he does have other teams express interest)

but, make it work for the mets. I would be more than happy to take Farnsworth. And I don’t care at all about his time with the yankees. he is healthy, and has reinvented himself as a pitcher, and is having a good year.

although right now, getting some kind of even semi-viable prospect (instead of the nothing they get if they cut him loose) is not a bad idea. Can’t be that hard to find a replacement 4th OF that can’t hit.

      Sabermetrician Brian Bannister?

      probably not.

what about keeping him and offering him arbitration. Do we really think he’d accept to be a backup player?

Do we know is he the “Type” of free agent that nets draft picks?

Frenchy is not eligible to be a FA this year, so he is no type.

Mets have the option of offering him a contract (via arbitration I believe in this case), or cutting him loose, but if the cut him loose, he can go sign anywhere and the mets get bumpkus.

Thank you yes you are right.

For the Mets (IMO) it seems like keeping Frenchy around is lose-lose. Hopefully the Royals (or anybody) is truly interested.

That salary is not 5M anymore it’s more like 2.
I could see us exchanging him for Farnsworth. He’s owed about the same. I am not sure how much the Royals value him or if Francoeur would agree to renegotiate his contract down to where the Royals would sign him for another year (buying out last year of arbitration and one more year) Frenchy has to know he is not going to get signed at his arbitration amount.

Farnsworth has a $5.25 mil option for 2011 with a $500,000 buyout. I love this contract language:

if traded before end of 2010 World Series, Farnsworth may void option and take buyout

      1. stickguy

and he would probably be a dope to do it!

Yeah, I would not imagine we would pickup that option. Kind of like he and Frenchy are in the same shape. Both have a contract next year around 5M and neither are likely to be picked up and neither are likely to get anywhere near that in their next contracts.

I think Farnsworth has a better market value than Frenchy right now. The Royals could probably get a half way decent (and cheap) prospect for Farnsworth.

Anyway, Francoeur is Jose Guillen-lite only with a sunnier disposition.

How about you trade Frenchy, Mejia, Flores and FMart for Greinke and Farnsworth?

I don’t think the Mets need a pitcher with social anxiety issues.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Yeah I think that’s a real legit concern, but he is worth the risk, no?

        1. saltygary

If it was anyplace but in NY or Bostan than it’s worth a shot. NYC could bury the kid.

            Xanax!

In a vacuum hell yeah. That anxiety issue is concerning though.

        Agreed.

Makes total sense. Moore might be one of the worst GM’s in the game. There isnt any other good reason why he has Ankiel, Guillen, and Betancourt all on his team, he likes terrible to sub-par players because they are gritty. Grit doesnt win WS Dayton, be my guest.
