Forget the Maine

According to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, Mets pitcher John Maine had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder yesterday and is out for the season.

Well the Maine era is over I guess

Agreed. I kind of snickered when the official Mets tweet about this added “he should be ready for spring training.”

I’m thinking more like Maine is done as a Met.

One example of how no surgery is simple, especially for a pitcher. Look at Santana. I think his slow start this season was definitely attributed to his surgery. He was older and you just can never predict how the body will react.

I really believe Maine’s problem is 99% health and not his mental makeup. Surgery that should have long ago healed with little effects never really did. I can almost understand his frustration with it all and that lead to all the comments after that last inning he pitched. We’ll never know but the whole situation doesn’t seem as straight forward as was reported. Whether Maine contributed to it b/c he himself wasn’t communicating how that arm felt to management, if he felt they were blowing him off, if management did bend over backwards for him, or some combo of it all but safe to say it was poorly handled.

I wonder if he’ll ever get healthy enough to get his career back on track. If so, I just don’t think it’ll be with the Mets.

In response to your title I guess that ship has sailed. LOL

Fortunately, starting pitching hasn’t been much of a problem since Maine and Perez went kaplooey (save for Pelfrey’s recent yips).

I was hoping to get an ollie autograph since when ever we get one, that players met life is done, case in point loducca, castro, easley and solar

tell Ollie he sucks for me!

    2. stickguy

why would ollie be warming up before the game? That isn’t normal, is it?

Just worried that they mave be concerned about Pelf for some reason, and Ollie is getting loose just in case he has to make an emergency start.

Funny but the only one that talks to perez is feliciano

I highly doubt Maine gets tendered a contract this year (giving the cost).

But I would not be surprised at all to see him given a MiL/ST invite deal.

Really have no idea if there will be any market for him. Not likely thought before ST, since he has to show he is healthy (ish) and has some “stuff” again. So that might as well be with the Mets.

I always liked the guy, and felt bad for him the last couple of years once the shoulder went. He earned a lot of good will for that game 161 performance in 2007 (yeah, I still still hate Glavine though).

even if its just a ST invitee i would pass. its time to move on…

Maine, Ollie and Castillo should all be removed from their duties this offseason. If they cant trade Ollie or Perez, just flat out release them and bring in new blood.

guess jerry sticking with a winner. ALthough I really do not like Wright in the 4 hole. It never seems to go well. COincidence, him trying to live up to the HR requirements, or my imagination? Not sure about the numbers, but it just feels wrong.

And I guess mr. sac bunt is officially the new 2 hole guy. Go away slappy. Leave my team.

Man, I have a list of guys I want gone this offseason, and they better go or I will be P.O.’d!

    The lineup is as follows:

    1. Jose Reyes SS
    2. Luis Castillo 2B
    3. Angel Pagan RF
    4. David Wright 3B
    5. Carlos Beltran CF
    6. Ike Davis 1B
    7. Jason Bay LF
    8. Rod Barajas C

well Castillo is useless in the 7 or 8 hole. if Reyes gets on and Castillo can get him over that leaves a very good chance of Reyes scoring in the 1st inning.

dont have the numbers on hand, but when Reyes scores in the 1st, even if he is the only one, we win at a very scary rate…

saw this on NYBD. actually makes a measure of sense. I think. Of course, I have not really looked at what Guillen brings to the table. Or if BB would be solid enough to be wortha rotation spot next year (probably they need a real pitcher for that).

might be rearranging some deck chairs, but not a bad concept.
    &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

One NYBD reader – 86Mets- proposed a Jeff Francoeur for Brian Bannister deal. I actually like it, but would think that Jose Guillen would have to come back for Kansas City to make such a trade.

It’s a well know fact that KC wants to dump Guillen’s remaining salary (about $3.5 million this year). Remember, Francoeur is arbitration eligible and made $5 million this year so that comes into play, especially since Bannister is controllable next year.

Obviously Francoeur for Guillen/Bannister isn’t a sexy deal, but it would help them for the rest of 2010. Bannister could take Hisanori Takahashi‘s spot in the rotation. Although he is having a lousy year in the American League, I could see him having success in an NL return. Playing in Citi Field and for a solid defensive team does wonders for sinkerballers. You’re asking him to be your fifth starter (yes R.A Dickey is now #4) and upgrading your bullpen by putting Takahashi there. More importantly, you get Guillen to be your fourth outfielder for the rest of the year

just might be the rearranging of the deck chairs, but new faces, new scenery, etc. I wouldn’t complain if it did happen.
