Mets In Discussions With Royals – Perez, Castillo and Francoeur’s names have been discussed

Ken Rosenthal is reporting through a series of tweets (Tweet 1, 2 3, 4)that the Mets and Royals have had discussions and the player names that have been bandied about so far for the Mets are Jeff Francoeur, Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo and for the Royals Gil Meche, Kyle Farnsworth and Jose Guillen but not necessarily a 3 for 3 though just names that are being discussed.

The mets would have to pay most of ollies contract I’d have to figure

well, this seems like (fromt he names mentioned) a lot of shuffling deck chairs, and offsetting salaries. And other than wanted to get rid of some headaches, I don’t relaly see the point. The Royals are for sure out of contention, and the Mets are damned close to being there too.

ollie for meche? 2 guys that are shot, but at least Ollie theoretically could be good again (I think Meche is done).

Fransworth for Frenchy? seems like a need for need, no harm really for the mets.

guillen for Castillo? looks like a classic change of scenery play (you take the guy we want to disappear, and we will take yours).

actually, of the 3 met names mentioned, the only one that screams “no mas” is Castillo, since they don’t rally have a better option in place.

This is like a supersized version of Milton Bradley for Carlos Silva – I used to want these guys but I don’t want them anymore so I’ll give them to you for your guys that you used to want but don’t want anymore.

It is to solving any problems with either team as firing hitting or pitching coaches is – more doing something for the sake of doing something than an actual plan.

Ultimately I doubt it goes down but if it does it will be pleasant to smell some different garbage I guess. The fact that the two GMs involved are some of the least respected by the blogosphere just makes it more interesting.

I would hate to lose Frenchy, even though he can’t hit water if he fell out of a boat. But any trade that involves Perez and Castillo together actually makes me think that miracles can happen, you just have to believe!

well, those are 3 of the guys on my “must leave in the off season” list. So it would certainly be a nice head start to get rid of them now!

why the need to trade for someone else’s scrubs? why not just cut them or test the waiver wire?

i’d rather have guys in the system replace our guys then someone else’s problem guys (sorry if that doesn’t make sense)
