Minaya Won’t Confirm Coaching Staff Will Remain Intact Come Tuesday

In what could be the end for Mets hitting coach Howard Johnson David Lennon of Newsday tweeted that Minaya twice would not say definitively that the staff will remain intact on Tuesday when the Mets return to action. This past Thursday Minaya while in L.A. was quoted saying,

“Jerry Manuel’s our manager,” Minaya said. “Look, any time you’re going to have a couple losing things, those things are going to pop up, but there’s no discussion at all. Jerry Manuel is our manager, going to be our manager — very happy with the job he’s done.”

I guess Jerry will not be looking over his shoulder on his flight back to NY.

jerry should sleep with 1 eye open. There is a reason they call it the kiss of death vote of confidence! I think Willie got one on his fateful trip to CA.

The Mets are not officially out of the race, but they are getting pretty damned close.

realistically, they can do it but it will be a long shot. figure they have to go 40-23 the rest of the way. Gets them to 90 wins, which might do it. so say 41-22 for 91 wins, or roughly 2/3 of the remaining games.

Can they pull it off? Maybe, but it won’t be easy. ANd they better start winning, and quick. A nice 9-3 stretch in the next 12 would be a nice start, especially since the last 6 are in Atl. and Phi.

5 games left until the deadline. go 2-3 and hit the end of July spot on .500, and just say screw it and punt, since that will have you well into hail mary territory.

I wonder what makes Mets fans more angry: firing a manager who lives in NY one day into a trip to California or waiting to fire a manager who lives in California until he gets back to NY.

Probably the former because of the added midnight/where fired 3:00am/where employed aspect.

well, at the times, I don’t think the fans care. we are mostly just happy they are gone!

The only ones that cared with Willie were the reproters who either had to be up late, or got aced out of a story.

So, you can bet the mets won’t make that mistake again.

    What’s left to say?
This isn’t a subpar lineup of barely ML level players. This is a lineup of mostly good hitters, with some stars. I have absolutely no idea what the problem is. Not sure if the Mets do either. But doing nothing, IMO, is just not an option.

Yeah – since I arrived in Oklahoma Friday I’ve barely been online. Still working on settling in, but I imagine by midweek I’ll be active and posting again.

Kuddos to the authors at this site. Right on top of this story.
I got to FWICG.com and first story I see is some innuendo about Doc Gooden abandoning his family. Since when did that site become the National Enquirer of baseball blogs?
