"There was supposed to be an Earth-shattering kaboom!"
Since the All-Star Game the New York Mets offense has been distinctly lacking kaboom. Tonight, in a game managed by Dave Jauss due to the 1-game suspension of Mets manager Jerry Manuel for bumping an umpire in Los Angeles over the weekend, the Mets found their kaboom. In the bottom of the 4th inning with the St. Louis Cardinals and Mets tied 1-1 Cards starter Adam Wainwright (14-6) walked Carlos Beltran with 1 out. Ike Davis singled moving Beltran to third base. Then the Mets unleashed their long lost kaboom. Jeff Francoeur, playing only because starting OF Jason Bay is suffering from a concussion, hit a 3-run homer into the front row of the left field seats to give the Mets a 4-1 lead. The Mets scored 2 runs each in the 5th and 6th innings to blow the game open with the runs in the 6th coming courtesy of a Jose Reyes 2-run homer into the Pepsi Porch. Jonathon Niese (7-4) pitched 6 innings of 1-run ball to pick up the win. The Cardinals added a meaningless run on a double play ground out by Randy Winn in the top of the 8th for the final score. New York 8, St. Louis 2.

Of all the words I can’t believe you picked Kaboom as I was roaming around the house as the game started going Kaboom, strange…. Met’s go Kaboom! my rallying cry at these season defining days sitting now at 6.5 out 2 months to go. LGM!

so, would anyone care at all if Jerry just never came back? I honestly can not think of 1 negative aspect of that.

I can’t think of anyone who would care. I’ll be curious to see if Jerry changes the line up tomorrow just to be “different” to get his stamp back on the team. Alright, maybe I’m being too judgemental. I’ll wait and see. When they were rolling he was smart enough to get out of the way so it should be the same after posting an 8 spot.

well, considering he made up today’s lineup, I think his stamp is pretty clearly on it.

Of course I thought that too but I’m feeling sarcastic after seeing an intoxicating 8 runs posted.

I can think of one negative aspect of that–it would deprive all of us of about 38 percent of your comment output.

On paper, this looked like a loss going in. Wainwright and his 26 scoreless innings. Mets and their scoreless innings. Baseball is a funny game.
Take that, Wainwright!
Niese looking very solid since his return from the DL. Nice to see them finally get him some run support.

like they say, that’s why you play the games.
and neise needs to get legitimate consideration for ROY if he keeps up close to this. Certainly should finish high in the voting.

and absolutely DESTROYING Garcia tomorrow would go a long way towards that. Maybe I should ask David Wright if he thinks it’s important to beat him to help Niese get that award?

cliff lee will never become a met. he would not fill in.
so far this year, 112 ks, only 7 walks. Ollie can do that in 1 game.

Perhaps the most pleasant aspect of this 2010 Mets season for me has been Jon Niese.
In February I never even considered the possibility that he would be in the rotation. I only wondered how long it was going to take him to recover from that horrific injury. What a wonderful surprise he has been.

His curve is one of the central enabling tenets of the 2011 Prophecy of the Knogmenn.

Completely agree, I’m so happy to be completely wrong regarding my expectations for Mr. Niese. I didn’t think he had enough speed differential between his FB & Curve to be successful. I qualified it by saying if he could just get in the low 90′s with his FB he could be special but I honestly didn’t think he had that extra mph to get from 88 up to low 90′s. I’ve gotten used to being wrong about many a thing Mets related but never been so pleased to be wrong. Niese starts can’t come around fast enough for me. I love his approach and that he alway’s seems to have a game plan and sticks to it.

So true, it’s given him that extra weapon that imo has made him a complete pitcher.

Allegedly 2 Phillie prospects (Brown, Worley) are nowhere to be seen in Lehigh Valley post game clubhouse. Could be many reasons for that but of course the Philnatics believe it’s Oswalt coming.

Oswalt’s not going anywhere.
I’m sure they’re just out buying more shaving cream for pies.

I think your first sentence is probably right. The Astros have been all talk no action on trading name players for years.

Shaving Pie related: I can’t believe I just heard the Marlins Coughlin is out for the season I believe after suffering a torn miniscus while applying the celebratory pie after the last walk off against the Bravos. How freaky.

worley for sure could go, but I would be shocked if they moved brown too, after tall the talk. But, the phils have done some things lately that weren’t expected.
But, this would be the ultimate all-in move, since they have no other prospect to replace werth (or Ibanez), and they will be way over their reported budget.
It would at least make TRS happy!
