You’re not getting the money back for Perez, that money is already gone. Why waste a roster spot on him?less than a minute ago via TweetDeck

Today would’ve been a great day to replace Alex Cora with Darryl Strawberry and Oliver Perez with Doc Gooden on the roster.

I still don’t understand why people are upset that the Mets did not trade what talent we have for mediocre players for a faint run at the playoffs.

    1. CaseStreet

Considering a mid-season trade was sold to us fans recently by Omar but also prior to spring training, I don’t understand how you don’t understand.

I can promise my daughter a lot of things but when it comes time to do it I may see that it endangers her future because the circumstances have changed.

        1. Mr North Jersey

Not the best way to explain your point by comparing disgruntled fans to a child..

For the most part in my opinion the people who would not understand are the one’s that still probably believe the team could make playoffs if they had a little help. Now if a person truly believes that this team could make a serious run still and didn’t get no help to achieve that goal hence the disappointment at seeing nothing done to further that cause. I can understand them being upset.

If you though are one that realizes that this season is just about at it’s end as far as a realistic chance at the playoffs then of course you are most likely not upset because it would of been pointless for the most part.

          1. trs86

actually wouldn’t a disgruntled fan and a child be very similar? Both having no patience and usually thinking without consequences.

          2. Mr North Jersey

            You are correct.

I was just saying it may not have been the best way when addressing fellow bloggers.

I know I would not appreciate being told I am being compared to one acting like a child but that’s just me.

      2. CaseStreet

what’s changed? Did our prospects become can’t miss blue chips? Did the Mets fall out of contention? did pitchers not become available?

seems like Omar wanted to have his cake and eat it too.

nothing’s changed, not even the excuses.

        1. trs86

Really? nothing changed? We had a terrible road trip. The teams requested trades like Thole for Lilly and Kirk for Downs.

        2. CaseStreet

If the fate of the season was decided based on a bad road trip, this organization really is a joke.

Every team, especially this year’s team, has it’s ups and downs. Did we lose any key players? Are the star-players not performing well? Nope. Are the rookies completely lost? Nope.

It was a bad trip, doesn’t mean the season is lost.

I would def do Thole for Lilly or Kirk for Downs. One day, Thole could be a good back up. Lilly is projected to be a type A FA. Heck yeah I would’ve done that trade.

          1. trs86

Well that’s something. Agree to disagree there.

Do you honestly think that Lilly would have made the difference in this team making the playoffs?

          2. GravediggerHebner

It’s more than just “a bad trip” though. Since their high water mark of 11 games over .500 June 27 at 43-32 the team is 10-19, 5-12 on the road and 5-7 at home. That’s a bad month, a month in which they stopped playing well at home too.

One thing that could just be a coincidence but could be in their favor too is that they’ve played “good month, bad month” all season: 5 over in April, 5 under in May, 10 over in June, 8 under in July. For them to have any shot they have to maintain the trend through August then buck the trend in September.

My 2 cents on the trades is I preferred the rumor of Thole & Parnell for Myers. I liked it because Myers was under control cheap through 2011 so I felt like I wasn’t sending prospects away for a 2 month rental.

Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to sleep. I’ll check in the morning to see if anyone added anything else.

          3. Mr North Jersey

            nite

          4. CaseStreet

Like I said on another post, I’m expecting 18-10 in August beating up on ATL, PHI, HOU & PIT, while struggling against FLA and COL.

Can’t really complain about Myers since he wasn’t traded.

Hopefully, the team grows a pair and stops dicking around.

They really can’t complain, yes M & O have failed but the rotation has held up pretty decently.

It’s the 12-21 record in one run games that is inexcusable.

          5. GravediggerHebner

I’m not complaining about Myers I’m simply sharing with you, based on deals that were rumored on deadline day, how I would’ve preferred to use some of the resources you mentioned (Thole specifically).

I would’ve rather packaged him with more to Houston for Myers (which on deadline day it was reported that HOU requested this and NYM rejected) than just sent Thole to CHC for Lilly.

My reason for this is I don’t think the Mets are good enough in 2010 for Lilly to make the difference so I’d prefer to have used the asset of Thole to bring in someone who’ll be around longer than 2 months.

If I understand correctly you still believe the 2010 Mets have post season hope and in that context I can understand your thoughts on Thole-Lilly. Just stating why I would’ve gone with the other deal if making any deal involving Thole.

          6. njstuckintx

I never understood the Thole to the Stros. They have their catcher of the future called up this year and just drafted another catcher this past draft.

But I’d have loved to see Myers become a Met. He was just re-signed to be the “ace” of the staff for Houston. Not that I consider him an ace, but the numbers he has put up this year on a crappy team have been pretty amazing.

          7. CaseStreet

Lilly would’ve sent Taka to the pen. That’s all I’ve wanted. Plus he gets you two draft picks. What’s not to like?

Here here to Linda Cohn. Huge Mets fan and back up singer for Steely Dan during the 70′s.

    1. trs86

Completely disagree with her comments. The fans deserved Omar trading away our prospects for mediocre talent? Wow.

    2. GravediggerHebner

I did not know that about Steely Dan. That adds to her milftasticity.
