I know, I know, the last you looked Fmart was struggling in AAA. However, over the last 5 games Martinez has been on fire. He is 9/18 with 2 doubles, 2 HR. I know it’s a small sample. However, instead of marching Francouer out while Bay is injured, why not give Fmart a try?
At this point we need to make some decisions with Martinez. Obviously he is not going to start in RF for the Mets next year if Beltran and Pagan are still around. So what is he? Just a trading chip? Will that trade chip gain more value continuing to play in AAA? Or should he be up in the majors? All great questions for a prospect that once defined Omar.

At this point, why the hell not. I’m up for trying francouer as a starter if it helped the team.

Play Feliciano over Frenchy.
Either way, likely Bay is back in a week or so right? I guess a week of games is still worth bringing him up for.

I think what is more important than what level of baseball (AAA or majors) he is playing at is that he stays healthy and is in the lineup everyday. If he does that plus performing reasonably well for whatever level he is at then he can prove he is either a viable trade chip or a viable OF that allows the Mets to trade someone else.
Right now to me and perhaps to the Mets and 29 other baseball teams he’s just an oft-injured young OF who becomes further removed from his great promise with each passing season despite his youth.

work for me jI also am not one of the pepole that have written him off as a failure.
and anyone is better than frenchy.
but again, the question is, are the mets in the race (dark horse, but still looking to make a run?) or are they retooking for next year? Once the season is a write off, then yeah, play the guy that may have a future. unlike last year, where jerry playeed tatis over evans

How many more loses until you feel they are out? Not to be a pessimist but you are asking a team to go on the type of run that hasn’t been done for years.

Well, maybe not done by the Mets in years, but these types of runs have been happening fairly routinely recently. Twins were like 8 games back of the Tigers in August last year and caught fire to make the playoffs. The Rockies seem to make a habit of late-season runs. The Dodgers caught fire the year they acquired Manny. And of course, there’s the Phillies in 2007, which only needed to catch fire in September to overtake the Mets. While I don’t think it’s happening with this club (I’d bet good money they go 3-3 or worse this trip, effectively taking them out of it), you never know…..

If something like this had happened in the Mets favor more recently than 1969 I would consider it more likely in 2010.

One of the many reasons I despise Jerry as a manager. I wanted to see Evans get a shot last year. When your team is out of it, the fans want to see the young guys play. It’s one of the few fun things to watch when your team is out of it, seeing if any of the young guys can provide a spark and possibly have a future with the big club. Instead, we got to see Tatis ground into more double plays.

Only if they can keep him in there consistently through the rest of the season. If Bay is going to be out a month, then yes and then they can keep him up with the expanded roster is Sept.
I imagine Frenchy will be put on waivers and hopefully the Mets can work out a deal on the remain 15m on his contract.

More failure in the short term at the MLB level will hurt F-Mart’s value more than a short term success will enhance it. The naysayers will say “I told you so” if he fails and cite the small sample if he succeeds.
I say leave him be until he demonstrates sustained success at AAA and a steadier MLB job opens up. Maybe he gets hot and is dealt in August for a guy signed beyond next season.

I’d just wait and call F-Mart up in September. He’s starting to play well now. Let him get a bit more confidence and let’s see if he can remain healthy down the stretch. If the Mets are completely out of it by September (which I fully expect), play him regularly in a rotation with Bay, Beltran and Pagan (French would be the odd man out in this scenario). I too didn’t write F-Mart off, although I wouldn’t have minded trading him last month (when we were actually close in the standings) when Cliff Lee was available. Nice to see he’s playing well. Dude’s got a ton of potential. Some of his homers still haven’t landed yet (a game-ending grand slam earlier this year was a majestic blast).
