With every Met loss turns Citi Field into a Ghost Town.

It’s happening slowly but happening nevertheless, The Ghost Town.  We should know by now that everytime we play Atlanta they always the weakest link and tonight they found it, right in the first inning.  Our second fan favorite, right behind Oliver Perez, Luis Castillo.  So because Jeff and Fred couldn’t part with Castillo’s 6 million for next year( and whatever they owe him this year) we have to watch him botch yet another double play and go for a measly 1-3.

You mean Ruben Tejada couldn’t do better?  I mean at the plate it’s a wash but on the field, at least Ruben could move a little bit faster.  Ken Rosenthal said that Omar offered the Cubs Castillo and Perez for Zambrano and they gave a resounding NO.  Zambrano might be the  biggest head case on the planet and they still didn’t want any part of Castillo and Perez.  You think Omar is praying to every God he read in a Humanities Book that some team claims these two players off of waivers?  While he’s at it, maybe he should but the whole Coaching Staff on waivers as well because nobody on the bench seems to be doing their job of making this team play with some urgency.

So, as the Mets fall again, I will slowly convert Citi Field into the Ghost Town of the Old West.  The first to go…the Shake Shack.  I’m turning that into an Old Casino.  Remember the one in the movies…there’s a roulette wheel thats unused and a poker table just sitting there with empty chairs around it.  Hey, there’s a bar!  but don’t get excited, it’s dry as a bone.  The bartender hangs out with an old man who used to be the dealer in a corner.  If we hang our there long enough, maybe the Outlaw Josey Wales will come in and shoot somebody.

Sad I know but what do you think Citi Field is going to look like in September?

Omar, Jeff, and Fred I hope you know what your doing for next year.

Speaking of Omar, I’m not sure if it is fair, considering he clearly has had his hands tied this year, but one would have to think that the time is drawing nigh on his tenure as the GM.

A friend of mine who happens to be a Rangers fan sent me this link:

    http://www.bbtia.com/home/2010/8/2/hindsights-vol-2-so-long-jon.html

“Meanwhile in Queens, the Mets — with plenty of money and plenty of needs — were unable to do anything to make their club better. You can bet that Fred Wilpon is watching what the kid who grew up as a Mets fan is doing down here in Texas.

Omar Minaya has run his course in New York. Jon Daniels can become a free agent this winter. Do the math.”

This all assumes that the Wilpons have even heard of Jon Daniels and/or the Texas Rangers.

If Jon Daniels is single handledly responsible for the turn around in Texas, I’ll do a long road trip and drive him up to NY.

Unfortunately, Many years of Texas being bad combined with a very good scouting and talent development department is not what the Mets have been working with. Even when they’ve been bad, they sign a type A or two and lose the draft picks. Just saying that 1-2 years of not signing type A’s and getting value for the draft picks needs to happen. That can happen this offseason, actually, if Feliciano decline arb. and they take a flyer or 2 on some pitching projects. Santana, Pelf, Niese, Dickey, ________. Fill that blank in with Young, Deruscher(sp?), etc. Only other options are Vazquez, Pavano or Lilly, & they’ll cost you picks and you never know how they’ll actually be in NY. I think this may be the way to go for both the future and for the fact there isn’t crap out there in the FA market (knowing Lee isn’t coming to the Mets and that Crawford is a luxury, not a need for the Mets). Sign an upside guy or two and hope Mejia makes leaps and bounds.

Yeah, like I said, I’m not so sure that Omar is ultimately responsible for what is beginning to look like a lost season. I mean, the farm is always way underated by the “experts” as shown by the guys who have come up this year and appear to be capable of helping this club long term.

But how many more lives can he possibly have? Fair or unfair, you know?

        1. njstuckintx

my guess, 1 final ride into the sunset. If he can’t get it done next year, you get rid of him 1-2 weeks prior to the trade deadline. You do not want him involved in trying to sell off Beltran, re-signing Reyes and looking to do things in the off season with all the money that will be coming off the books.

disagree…Davis, Niese, Parnell, Thole were always rated high.

    Nice imagery.

Virginia City, Nevada is a classic old semi-ghost town, with a place called the Bucket of Blood Saloon. That might be an apt description of Citi the rest of the way.

thank you for the Gonzo, this is likely
the only thing that might get the Wilpon’s to finally move on from Omar.
An empty new stadium. This is actually what I’m rooting for now….Sad it’s come to that! We’d have to see what the asking price would be BUT I actually think Crawford is the perfect
fit for us. Let Beltran stay healthy and play. Let him know in the off-season that he’s not getting an extention, try and convince him it’s
best for him and the club that he goes
somewhere else and move him for whatever we can get. I’d love and OF
of Crawford-Pagan-Bay. Wishful thinking I know, but right now thats about all we have left.
While I understand and fully support
    not moving our top=tier youngsters,
I have a hard time understanding
how or why we could not have picked
up the Kearns/Wood combo the Yankees
did from Cleveland??…Didn’t cost anything and although not big guns,
would have at least shown the team they were TRYING to get some outside
help in there for maybe one more run.
I think its not just the fans who were
down about us not doing anything at all BUT the players themselves.
This team has looked very much like a team that has about quit the pastseveral days. Given THAT, why would fans who don’t already have their tix go out and pay good money
to sit in Citifield to watch a group
of players that know they’re not good enough to make the playoffs….AND…
are now playing that way….WHILE they’re Managed by a lame -duck???
    What’s the point???

    1. stickguy

If the players have given up, then it is going to be a really, really ugly finish. This is where the whole concept of player leadership comes into play. They need some respected guys that refuse to quit.

Of course, a manager that is actually in control and has the respect of the players would never let that happen!

a good reason to fire the lame duck, obviuosly being fired guy now.

      1. fongy2

        Yeah BUT it’s not gonna
        happen! And if it did,
        so what?…Unless a guy
like Bobby V. is brought in and its made
clear he’s our Mgr for the next few seasons…
        Whats the point???
Bob Melvin gonna come in here and win 36of our last 56 and make a run in the playoffs???
        Whats the point NOW??
Again, Mets fans only protest is not showing
up and not spending money that goes into
        the Wilpons pocket.
        In another few weeks,
        N.Y. will be taking
about the Yanks/Rays/Sox three-way playoff hunt, football season getting warmed up with
two very good, playoff type teams starting the season and local media will pay almost
        no attention to how the
        Mets finish…..

  4. rustyjr

Thank goodness I wasn’t able to see last nights game – didn’t look at the daily news online yet – did they say if the mets releasing Ollie as a viable option ? Also I would think Luis is made the back up second baseman next season with tejada or another option in his steed – slappyvwill ve released by next August uless Cora option kicks in

  5. oleosmirf

unfortunately we will see more of this next season as they will sell us a team with “a healthy beltran all season” is a playoff team.

    1. stickguy

that would be sad. IMO, they need to assume beltran does not exist again.

Omar? probably 1 last, last chance to fix the problems (many of his own making). But also possible there is a much bigger shake up than many people might be expecting. I could see Omar getting reassigned (director of international operations/scouting?) since they are already paying him.

But, will a real “stud” GM come aboard, if it means being a puppet to jeffy (if that is really the situation).

the best outcome would be Freddie paying attention to the dysfunction, and deciding to push Jeff over to the business side only, and bringing in a VP of ops type that really knows how to build and run an organization, and team that guy with a bright young mind (protege) type as the GM.

but more likely, if they do push Omar aside, Jeffy takes on a bigger role and they stick in that Wayne guy from Cinci as the new puppet.

since after all, these are our metsies!

    1. ceetar

Who knows how much of it’s Jeff anyway. Maybe it’s Jeff making the good moves and Omar being the butcher? Maybe Jeff and Omar get along great and every once in a while Fred throws something zany down the pipeline.

      1. stickguy

we really dont know, but like I commented in the next thread, the only way to find out is the make the change.
