These pitching prospects are not instilling happy thoughts of the future to come.

    1. metro

We don’t have much in way of pitching prospects. Hopefully Harvey signs. I’d say…. Harvey, Carson, Allen (despite a disappointing year), Familia (despite terrible year), Armando Rodriguez, Erik Goedel, Juan Urbina, Dotson (though it looks like he’s hurt again), Gee and maybe a few others would be the best of the bunch

      1. njstuckintx

I’m sensing many a free agent starting pitcher in our future, based on that crew. A lot of a “hope and a prayer” in that bunch.

      2. Mr North Jersey

        How about Brandon Moore?

I been impressed with his SO/BB ration while in Savannah.

        1. metro

Only throws 85, 86… righties with velocity like that very, very, very rarely make it.

          1. Mr North Jersey

interesting I was not aware he threw a fastball that topped out in that range. Pretty impressive how he was able to rack up so many k’s but true unless he has some type of killer breaking ball that I am not aware it will be interesting to watch how he does against more experienced hitters.

          2. metro

Toby Hyde recently did a “report” on him here-

            “RHP Brandon Moore

Why He Missed the Top 41: Despite throwing the first no-hitter in Cyclones history in 2009, I can’t get excited about RHP with below average fastballs
2010: Moore’s season started a little bit late, but once the 24-year old found his rhythm, he helped carry the Gnats to the first half championship. He could throw his slider for strikes, and he threw it a lot. In the SAL, again, if you can throw a breaking ball for strikes, that’s all you need. His fastball was mostly 87 mph.
            I Missed: Nada
Top 41 This Winter: Doubt it.”

Hey Metro do you ever plan on doing a breakdown on some of the Mets prospects we should keep an eye on in the next year or two?

I would love to read your perspective on say a Carson for example or a Duda.

    1. oleosmirf

is Metro affiliated with Amazin Ave in anyway b/c his reports are just copying and pasting from this:

      http://www.amazinavenue.com/2010/8/4/1604658/mets-daily-farm-system-report-8-4#storyjump

      1. metro

I copy and paste nothing other than taking reports I put on BBI (a giants site) and paste them here.

        1. metro

I don’t think it’s very hard to have the same information…. Any of you guys could do it. Read up on the Mets prospects, go to Milb.com and look at the box scores and note guys you think are “prospects” for instance the guy you linked seems to feel Pascucci is worth mentioning (I don’t). Savannah he felt there were only 4 guys worth mentioning while I felt there were a few more. How have I copied and pasted what that guy writes? I’m perplexed.

          1. Mr North Jersey

I am sure Oleo after a 2nd look will see it was a simple misinterpretation on his part.

      2. Mr North Jersey

Clearly it is not copy n paste.
They are both reporting the same thing but if you look at structure they are not a copy n paste as you said.

        1. oleosmirf

it was this post not amazin ave that had stark similarites.

          http://metsmerizedonline.com/2010/08/83-minor-league-report-2.html

ive just never seen any statbook show ER, R, BB and K like this before: 4/2 R/ER, 3/2 BB/K and both websites use the same format…just curious thats all…

          1. metro

I’m good friends with Tej and I assure you I would never “copy” him but we discuss the minors every night as a matter of fact. You’ll notice Tej included guys I don’t have any interest in like former Cub Michael Barrett, I also have no clue what the numbers mean next to the pitchers names mean though. Tej has his own site too, and I think he and I are going to be doing some work with Joe Demayo.

    2. metro

Yeah. I was planning on waiting till the the end of August because that’s when they do some late season promotions and we have a slightly better grasp on where they see guys. For instance… I think Ceciliani belongs in St. Lucie in CF next year but with den Dekker signing I could see Ceciliani in Savannah or in St. Lucie in LF.

  3. oleosmirf

the problem has been all these prospects seem to hit a wall the second they reach AA. The only one that was able to post good numbers in AA was Ryan Coultas (now 28) and he’s been out for the year with a torn labrum…

with no MLB ready prospects next season, (no Mejia is not MLB ready despite his inclusion in the pen to start the year) a FA or trade for a stop gap is the only option for now.

    1. Mr North Jersey

Mejia could of been that pitcher to break the AA barrier but you know how that went. Yes went to Majors but in the end he was sent down to continue to develop as a starter.

Let’s hope the Mets and Mejia agree to go play in winterball and continue to get work in like they did last season.

    2. njstuckintx

Pretty much. Assuming you’re rolling with Santana, Pelf, Niese, Dickey & someone, with

I’d say look for someone with high risk / high upside, as the FA market is pretty crappy for SPs. I know that leaves the Mets in the same situation as they are in now, but I can’t see Lee being signed, I’m not all that enamored with Lilly and after that it’s a fairly steep decline. Maybe durscherere? Vazquez? I can see this team being in the same situation next year as this year. I just hope the high riskers pay off or the Mejia is stretched out properly and ready to contribute to the team come May/June?

      1. oleosmirf

i want to see what Vasquez does for the Yankees in Sept and the playoffs before I would want to bring him here. He has a reputation as being a horrendous big game pitcher and his struggles in NY have been well documented. That said, ne can erase that stigma fairly quickly in the coming months.

I also agree that the Mets should look at 1 year incentive-laden risk/reward guy in Duchscherer, Webb or Chris Young.

        1. njstuckintx

I’d vote for this post if it was on the ballot.

    3. DNDJohan aka kistics

And yet, the Mets FO want to keep their prospects.

      1. njstuckintx

It’s either that or no one wanted the prospects they had…

        1. metro

It’s not a deep system and with most of their pitchers having disappointing years the drop off from “elite” to next group was massive. I mean coming into the year there were high hopes for Holt, Familia, Allen, Niesen, etc plus Havens has been hurt and Fernando has disappointed.

          1. fongy2

            Yeah BUT
            Omar would tell you
            not to worry about
            FMart…
            He’s still very young!

          2. metro

Well to be fair he IS still only 21 and he has 12-13 homers and 15 or so doubles in about 250 ab’s so ALL is not lost YET lol.

          3. fongy2

I’m starting to think he won’
t even be Dave DeJesus anymore.

          4. metro

Well DeJesus wasn’t even yet in the minors at 21 (still in college) and didn’t even reach AAA till 23.

          5. fongy2

I mean the type of player he’ll be when he reaches the majors for good.

          6. metro

I still think Fernando will be a good player. I honestly do.

          7. oleosmirf

i don’t see it…even when he does see the field his numbers are not very impressive.

          8. metro

I disagree. Last year he had an .877 OPS at AAA as a 20 year old before he got hurt

          9. metro

He also won MVP of the Caribbean series

  4. fongy2

I’m just wondering if anyone knows why Ramon Ortiz was given his release from Buffalo roght after throwing a
    2-hitter?? “The next Pedro Martinez”
seemed like he was doing pretty well
in his attempts to get back to the
Majors. On the topic of this thread,
I’m gonna see Bingo 3 games next week
down here against H’Burg. SO maybe i’ll something positive to add about
some of our AA players. Apparently,I’ll miss Josh Stinson who
I don’t believe is schedule to start
any of the 3. Really wanted to see him
    more than any other starter.

    1. oleosmirf

hopefully to make room for Oliver Perez in the rotation…

    2. metro

Adam Rubin said it’s because he needed to be promoted or “on the verge of promotion” by 8/1, they requested he stay 2-3 more starts and he still opted out

      1. fongy2

        Thanks….I thought
        maybe he was caught
        pissin’ in the parkin’
        lot or smoking a bone
along the side of some road outside the stadium :)

        1. njstuckintx

Nope, was busted throwing back a couple of the plastic bats full of beer they sell at Jersey Jackles games for $4.

  5. metro

Justin Turner, the infielder who was claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles in May and who appeared in four games during the Mets’ West Coast trip to open the second half, lost a 10-game hitting streak Tuesday. Turner nonetheless is hitting .410 (16-for-39) with five doubles, two homers and eight runs scored since returning from the majors.

    1. oleosmirf

hopefully he gets the playing time over Cora in September as it would be nice to have someone else as despite common logic, that extra 1.2 mil he makes over a comparable player is becoming more important as the Wilpon’s willingness to spend goes down…

No surprise. Also would not be surprised to see Ollie next year as well.

    1. oleosmirf

only the Mets would keep this guy here. The mets are 1-13 when Ollie pitches this season…

  7. metro

I’m trying to get some information on Gabriel Zavala (converted OF) in terms of stuff but Rubin nor Toby Hyde have been much help. His numbers are eyepopping.

  8. metsfan4decades

On another note…found this tidbit on Mets Merized latest post concerning Beltran ‘Trading Beltran Is Not An Option, I’ll Tell You Why’.

He gives #5 reasons why trading him is not an option. It’s the 5th reason he gives I found interesting as I didn’t know this:
    *************************
In addition to those four reasons, there is another, and it might be the most compelling argument as to why Carlos Beltran is untradeable.

When the Mets landed Beltran and signed him to that $119 million dollar, seven year deal, there was a special clause his agent Scott Boras insisted in adding to the contract. At the time, it was no big deal because everyone in the Mets front office didn’t see any chance that Beltran wouldn’t play at a high level for all seven years of the contract.

As part of the deal, Carlos Beltran can not be offered arbitration after the 2011 season.

That means no first round draft pick and no supplemental first round draft pick for the team that trades for him. This also applies to the Mets if they hang on to him.
    ****************************************

Well……along with the full no trade clause, the money left on his contract, the state of his knees and the no arbitration clause, I’m thinking Beltran is here to stay through 2011.

    1. Mr North Jersey

      How about trading Pagan?
      :-P

      1. njstuckintx

Sell high. Light ‘em if you got ‘em…

      2. njstuckintx

And honestly, looking at the minor league system, that’s about the one strong position that has plenty of prospects (upside speaking).

      3. metsfan4decades

Don’t we want Pagan for RF next year?

    2. njstuckintx

Moral of the story, stay away Boras. He’s smarter than we like to think.

  9. GravediggerHebner

What is the deal with Chad Cordero? Is he in Buffalo just in case someone gets injured up here or if he performs well down there will he get a call up regardless?
