Mets Doomsday Clock At 11pm
Mets lose 8-3 while committing 4 errors. Improve to 3-11 on the road since the ASB and are now 7.5 games out of first. Hell, I wouldnt argue that the clock isnt already on 12. This game was too disgusting to even recap…you can read about it here.

well, a great big yuck to this game.
\
losing happens, but playing like sloppy little leaguers is truly sad to watch.
changes need to be coming.

That was fast. I found myself on the edge of the curb tonight and decided to jump on the street. I’ll still probably watch most of the games, just not going to bother getting invested in discussions about things that will never happen, like Ollie being released, Omar and Jerry being fired, and other fascinating fairy tales. Not worth it.
TKFJ out….

Earlier from Lennon:
As for Beltran playing CF next season, I’m thinking more and more he could be doing that somewhere else.

missed that discussion. But, I would probably support it if they got real talent back, but I don’t really see it happening.
I also don’t want to count on him staying healthy and being a major contributor, but I expect that he will be the “cross your fingers” guy next season (replacing ollie and maine).
if Pagan is still around, with some of the OF prospects knocking on the door, at least they will have replacements (and a jump on the 2012 and beyond future) if he goes down, or gets traded.

basically it was the mets trading Beltran to the Sawks for Dice K and Lowrie

Yeah!!! This is the type of heart and grit I’ve been waiting for! Did you see how the charismatic, winning attitude of our hearty, gritty players were able to shrug off a tough loss in which they had more errors than runs? Now that’s what I’s like to see more of, heart and grit in action baby!! Maybe if Wally becomes manager will reinforce this hearty, gritty attitude!! Go Mets!!!!!

if they played like this for wally, he might have a stroke and die on the field.
at least with jerry, you don’t have to worry about that happening.

How bad are the Mets?
They are so bad that their flagship station no longer wishes to archive their post-game interviews because what the point? We already have heard it all before.

Good thing Omar didn’t make any changes!…Things are going REAL well!
It’s sad that after all the time, passion and money I’ve put into being
a true die-hard of this team, I’m
ALMOST to the point where I’m rooting
AGAINST our Mets. The way I see it,
if we play well enough(say just over
.500)to finish like 10 out of the Division and 5,6,7 out of the Wildcard
The Wilpon’s can find enough excuses
to justify doing little beyond changing Managers and trying to convince Met fans that with Beltran
for a full season, Ike & Josh for a
full season with their rookie seasons
behind them AND the likelyhood that
Bay can’t possibly have a worse year
THAT we have a legit shot at competing
with The Phils and Braves in 2011.
So…For me I’m left with the thought
that if this collapse continues, there
might be enough of an outcry from fans
and the media THAT old Freddy says
enough of Omar, his staff AND Jerry and
his staff and goes out and gets
real experienced, sage and creative
Baseball men to run this team.
Only then….I believe will we see
changes which will shift the culture
of this club both on and off the field. Very, very sad situation…..
But hey, at least we can start watching NFL games this weekend!

The crazy thing is that’s absolutely true.
I think we’re in good
shape for 2011 with
Thole,Ike,Reyes,Wright,
Bay&Pagan But we have to do something about 2B AND Beltran’s future here has to be
seriously addressed,
Pitching wise, Johan,Pelf,Niese&Dickey
are a pretty solid group of 4 BUT they are
1,3,4&5 Sps…We’re gonna need a LEGIT #1A
OR #2…And I mean LEGIT,not some 3or4 we’ll call a #2 BUT a
sure-fire 200+inns,17/18Win,3era
guy…IN HIS PRIME.
KRod???…O.K. we could
and alot of teams do worse,BUT we need a REAL DEAL 8th inning guy who could on occasion close games…
Sorta like what we thought Putz would be.
I like Parnell,always
have and Feliciano is
O.K. when coming in to Pitch to 1or2 Lefties..
..ONLY!!…We still need to find another RP or two, even if Takahashi comes back.
BUT this team needs a
new director on the field AND more importantly a GM w/o his own agendas, without the game-playing and just plain bullsh*t that Omar brings…And that was BEFORE he became affraid to do something
which might cost him his job….Can’t win with these mindsets!

Fong, it’s not that the talent isn’t there. Though we could definitely stand to add an actual #2. Plenty of teams out there would love to have the guys we have. We have tons of big names. Santana, Wright, Reyes, Beltran, K-Rod, Bay, we have an upcoming young first basemen. The problem is that for some reason they just can’t put it together. Last year I was watching the Tigers Twins 1 game playoff, and I was just sitting there thinking “The Mets when healthy are just as good, if not better than these teams.”
But once again, despite the names we have, they just aren’t getting it done. And next season has got to bring some kind of shake-up.

Iagree!
My point in the 1stplace
was that unless
what we’ve seen for the past month continues,I wouldn’t
expect a
whole lot of change
outside
of anew Mgr….
And left the have a say in THA along with Jeffy,we’ll likely see some
unsuccessful retread like Melvin or Collins.

I am going to out-Fong you tonight.
We have Wright and a past-his-prime Johan and a miracle Dickey and very little else.
Reyes had a short hot streak and has not been the same for weeks.
Bay was horrible.
Beltran is not the old Beltran.
Ike thus far is a pretty good fielding Mike Jacobs.
Pelf is thus far–at best–good for half a season.
Niese? Who knows.
We clearly need a new manager and a new GM before we can take the idea of winning seriously.
How can they come out like they did Sunday, then come out like they did today after last night’s win?
This is a .500 team, Ceetar can write eighty paragraphs of meaningless drivel, and it is a .500 team.
I don’t know what can be done, but they need to start thinking about serious massive change.
The cast around Wright and Johan is a 3rd or 4th place cast, depending on how well the Marlins play.

PLUS we struggle with them headtohead.

I saw earlier that your M’s gave the Phils some help’til
Howard comes back.

Well Fongy I agree we have talent but it is not translating into wins.
Why is that so I am sure there are a number of reasons and they all may be right some more than others of course but as I sit here at my desk typing this I find myself asking, would I rather have talent or winners?
Right now I don’t know if having talent equates to winning based on what I agree with you with that we have which is talent.

OK so I am perusing the WFAN new site and I am at the Mets page where at the bottom they have a article titled “Guide To New York City Bra Fittings”
I guess they are trying to cross promote?
Bras = support therefore Mets need support?

how many innings do you see the mets go down 1-2-3 and last an entire 3 minutes batting. So many times I’ll get up to get a drink and poof 2 outs and I just make it in time to see the last out. It’s atrocious.

A big problem with the mets is that when it comes to potential transactions almost all of their players fall into the category of untradable, not worth trading, or impossible to get fair value, but I think I may have found someone the Mets can trade and get good/decent value for.
Mike Pelfrey. He is young, has shown flashes of excellence, but I think he needs a change of scenery (ala, more suited to play in a small market). Lets assume (probably hope at this point) that he gradually gets better and can finish with an era around 4.00 or high 3′s. I think we can deal him and get a decent bat in return.
Maybe package Pelf, Pagan, and F-Mart and try to bring in a big bat. I love Pagan, and would gladly have him on the Mets next season, but with that said, if you can get value for him I wouldn’t be opposed to selling high.
What do you guys think?
fongy2
8/4/2010-11:48pm at 11:48 pm (UTC -4)
No one is impossible to trade…No one.
Just take a look at the rosters of other teams and there are guys everywhere
who you’d think some team can never get rid of him,his contract, lack of production, bad
attitude….Whatever.
BUT it takes creativity and
thats something Omar has shown very, very little of during his
tenure here,

If we are to see the Glory days of yester-year, I’m afraid we need to embrace pitching, not send it on it’s way. If Pelf brought back another pitcher, I could see it. Otherwise else, pitching, pitching, pitching…

Hey Brockif you can give me the heads up on where/how I can get my hands
on Willie Dixon recordings on CD,
I’d appreciate it. I listen to about
everything(result of growing up in my Grandparents bar in Spanish Harlem,
in The 70s BUT am a huge blues fan
with both a pretty good vinyl and CD collection including some real vague
artists BUT Willie Dixon is one of my
real favs and I’ve had a difficut time
finding much of anything he recorded
which I understand was pretty limited to begin with.

trading pelf? Not likely to happen. 2 reasons.
1) The mets are already woefully short of SP in the organization. Trading more would be very hard. Plus, I think this is a huge reason the mets did not make any meaningful acquisitions at the deadline. Teams wanted SP back, and outside of mejia (and of course neise), the mets have none worth mentioning.
2) Trading pelf, like trading reyes or Beltran, falls into the “big, bold, risk/reward” move category. And IMO, the only way any of them happen is if there is first a major shake up in the FO. Either a real BB genius type comes in to run the organization (replacing jeffy on that side of the operation), or the owners decide they want a full guy, and just put in place a new GM with orders to do it (less likely IMO).
I really don’t see Omar being the one to implement a program of sweeping changes, if it involves gutting and rebuilding his “baby”. If omar stays, you get the cosmetic changes.
