Interesting morning indeed. What started out last night as a tweet by Andy Martino reporting that Fernando Martinez and Ruben Tejada was scratched from last night’s lineup not knowing why. Gave way to a flurry of tweets that makes you wonder what the hell is going on in Minaya’s head.
Soon after Martino’s tweet Adam Rubin tweeted speculations if the pair was due for call-ups? After that everyone waited to speak to Minaya after the game to ask him why the pair of prospects were pulled. When Minaya was finally confronted about it his reply was, “They made that decision. I’ve got nothing to say about that. We’ll see.” I don’t know about you but to me that means he is not aware as to why the pair was removed. Minaya also said “I‘m not going to comment on that,” Minaya said, “I have nothing to say about that right now.” Again, why is Minaya being so secretive?
Soon after Adam Rubin then reports “Two sources — one with ties to the organization, one formerly with the organization — indicated the Seattle Mariners are the team involved in dialogue with the Mets.” Which of course has everyone scurrying to find out if there is any truth and what players are being discussed.
Ken Rosenthal then comes in to report that both Tejada and Martinez have not been put on waivers and therefore never cleared waivers so they can not be traded. Ending any rumor that the pair would be traded. He also added that Francoeur had cleared waivers and Castillo would clear waivers on Monday.
Then what is as close to an official statement as can be since Minaya thinks he is running a covert operation ESPN’s Enrique Rojas tweets that he spoke directly to the pair and this is what they said.
Fernando Martinez: “Todo sucedio muy rapido. Me llamaron esta manana para decirme que iba a GL. Estoy listo para jugar desde esta noche”
English Translation: Everything happened very quickly. They called this morning to say I was going to GL. I’m ready to play from this night.
Ruben Tejada: “Feliz por volver”. F-Mart y Ruben Tejada abordaran avion en 15 minutos para ir a Filadelfia a intergarse a Mets.
English Translation: “Happy to return.” F-Mart and Ruben Tejada will board a plane in 15 minutes to go to Philadelphia to integrate with Mets.
Then in a tweet from David Lennon we find out the Mets in fact have released Alex Cora and optioned Jesus Feliciano to make room on the roster for Tejada & Martinez.
So now I am left with 1 question. Who decided to bring the prospects up? It wasn’t Minaya cause he said he was unaware that they were pulled last night. If he did know they were going to be added then why all the cloak and dagger?
This my friends is a day in the life of a Mets fan.
