BREAKING: Mets and Mariners discussing Fernando Martinez

One of the sources indicated that 21-year-old outfielder Fernando Martinez, who was one of the two players scratched from the Bisons’ lineup, could be headed to Seattle if a deal materializes.

I’ll be honest. I don’t recall many times where a top prospect (even if Fernando’s value is down) moved after August 1st. The Mariners have very little that would seem to make sense. Jose Lopez is not a very good player, Aardsma would not clear (nor is he even close to worth Fernando), Figgins is terrible and due a lot of money. The only thing I can think of is a deal where the Mariners are taking Castillo and/or Perez and the Mets are including Fernando to “pay the freight”
Milton Bradley 1 year 12 million….. Do the Mets do Castillo AND Perez with Fernando as the “tax” for Bradley?

Seems unlikely. Adam Rubin’s story particularly doesn’t actually mention any facts besides the scratch. Castillo rumor is just based on the idea that the Mets should try to move him and have in the past.

    We’ll see. Felix Hernandez? ;-)

somewhat unrelated, I find Adam Rubin’s twitter feed to be very spammy and annoying lately.

I don’t see a match. Guys like Aardsma, League and Vargas would not clear waivers and Figgins would be a terrible move

Thank you. I mentioned as much in the Dugout last night – only I called it unprofessional and not as funny as Rubin thinks it is. I still think he’s carrying a grudge and getting some kind of satisfaction out of zinging it to Omar and the Wilpons.

Yeah, looking at their roster… its a disaster. And they were thought of to be the most improved this past offseason. yikes.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Cora headed to #RedSox. Nothing new on it yet, but we’ll see. .

neither perez or castillo have passed through waivers yet.

Can you imagine someone claiming them in order to stop another team from getting better? Uff da.

i only mention this because i find it unlikely that players would be rested 3 days before a deal could be potentially be consummated.

no one is claiming any of these guys.

well if only one team claims them doesnt that mean they are stuck with them?

    2. njstuckintx

is there a list of players that have cleared waivers so far?

wouldnt fmart and tejada need to pass through waivers to be traded? highly unlikely that would happen.

these two must have been prepared for recalls to the mets with other players being traded.
