Well, Hessman, Francoeur, and Blanco clearly are all opening day 2011 starters….I am just real surprised Carter isn’t in there too!

Nothing like have a career minor leaguer batting 5th in your lineup!

O I love it. Why pass up an opportunity to give a terrible player who has no future with your team a start over your supposed top prospect?

i know. play them or leave them where they can get playing time. and i’m confused. why sit them out last night and keep them on the bench if they might be playing today? I’m still confused by that. any opportunity for drama. your new york mets. less than optimal.

It just hit me that Kingman will not be too happy to see Carter is still with the club,

Eh, I would have preferred Jesus stay, but it is not that big of a deal.
If Carter starts over FMart, well, than I may be a tad irritated!
I just want to see the kids play.
Thole, Ike, Tejada, FMart every day.
Why the hell are Hessman, Blanco, and Frenchy playing?? Being showcased for trades?

Raise your hand if you knew Jerry was gonna reward Hessman with a start today as a result of that HR last night.

I assume from the craptastic RH lineup, that tonight must be hamels going.
With F Mart up, if Frenchy gets 1 start vs. a RH Sp, then they should skip firing jerry, and just throw him off the train on the way home.
I just caught up on all the days threads (finally back from vacation), and the best point I saw all day was whoever it was that said Jerry needed to go ASAP, since they are bringing up the kids, and jerry is probably going to bury them.
of course, if they can actually unload Frenchy for anything (bag of balls, maybe a cheesesteak?), that would be a big help.

now do all of you understand why i wanted jerry fired, if you have a puppet like Oberkfell in there, F-mart plays. When Jerry is still managing for his future, Frenchy plays…

With apologies to TRS, this team needs Backman as manager today, filling out a lineup card with Thole, Davis, Tejada, and FMart pretty much every day.
We have 50 games left; let’s see what these guys have against good teams fighting for playoff spots.
We DO NOT need what we are seeing tonight, which is a repeat of last year when Jerry admitted playing Tatis to try to get another win or two to save his own job.
The only thing which could make tonight’s lineup even more idiotic than Hessman playing and batting 5th (?!?!?!?!?!?!) would be Carter instead of Pagan. Maybe he’s saving that for tomorrow.

Seeing as how Wally’s already in the Mets system, they should be able to promote him to INTERIM manager for the remainder of the season.
I have serious doubts as to whether or not Wally can handle being manager of the Mets, but 50 games might be enough time to sort out the doubts or prove that the Mets need to find a real manager in the offseason.

Mets saying Tejada is now the everyday 2B, Castillo will appropriately rot on the bench.

Looking at the quick splits over at MLB LH are hitting .178 against Hamel’s while RH are hitting .269. [sarcasm]Yeah bring up Martinez and start him against a tough lefty. That will really boost the kid’s confidence. I can’t understand why Jerry isn’t doing it. [/sarcasm]

Against Hamel’s what?
Why the hell not? The kid’s been around for years. Give him a shot.
We know Francoeur sucks.
If FMart is going to be an everyday player, he will need to hit against tough lefties.

This is not some automata you’re dealing with in spite of the love affair with numbers that baseball has engendered with overwhelming stats and fantasy leagues. Confidence plays a large role with these players and trying to instill it in a youngster is a smart move. Going 0 for 4 and striking out four times would really do wonders for FM’s confidence.
There is an unwritten rule in baseball that when you’re playing out the string and are playing contenders you go with the lineup that gives you the best chance of being competitive. Otherwise you go with the kids.

“Otherwise you go with the kids.”
I agree!!
Hamels is good, but he’s not Halladay or Lincecum, and the Mets actually have some good success against him.
I fully understand what you are saying, but in my opinion, Hamels isn’t THAT intimidating, and FMart has been around for a while now, has been in MLB spring trainings, was on the team for a while in the regular season, etc.
But, I guess he is going to platoon with Francoeur and see most of the playing time, so we both get what we want!

Frenchy cannot hit with consistency.
Frenchy will most definitely not be on the team next year.
If the players cannot see this, then it is REALLY time for a new manager to come in and tell them who the hell is boss.

this is the mets after all. Normal logic does not apply.
I am quite happy that slappy is out. may he never come back.
not that I think Tejada is going to be much better at this point, but it is a start.
