I’ll keep the text light, because the stats speak for themselves. Below is a chart ranking the Mets offensive production by position (boiled down to OPS to keep it simple) compared to the rest of the National League. The NL Rank is obviously out of 16, and the order was set by the difference between the Mets’ OPS and the NL Average OPS.
Brief analysis: There are half as many positions as there are teams in the National League…yet the Mets are near the bottom at 3 positions (RF, 1b, 2b). The team is near average at another 3 positions (LF, C, SS) and above average at a final 2 (CF – thanks Angel, 3b). Pitching aside, I don’t see how a team with three gigantic holes in the lineup compared to the rest of the league can compete for anything.
