    Hey Metro

Adam had a scout tell him that the Mets do have one of the deepest farm systems in the league but dont get any cred because they dont have any heywards, stantons and strausbergs? Would you say thats a fair assessment?

I believe Rubin said in our division, not in the entire league, that said I think the Braves clearly have a better overall system with the Marlins probably better/deeper as well. The Nationals also have added a lot of high end talent but their depth probably isn’t there yet. I can’t really 100% buy into what this “scout” said when he has Moore and Cohoon as 2 of our top 10 prospects. I wouldn’t have either one in my top 30 Mets prospects. Toby Hyde has seen Moore extensively and doesn’t think he cracks his top 41 next year. The Mets have very nice offensive depth (Flores being the one “high level” bat) but the pitching leaves a lot to be desired.

      Mejia
      Flores
      Havens
      Kirk
      Familia
      Allen
      Lutz
      Carson
      Puello
      Ceciliani
      Duda
      Ratliff
      Armando Rodriguez
      Aderlin Rodriguez
      Eric Beaulac
      Gee
      Campbell

then the guys we drafted this year

      Harvey
      Vaughn
      Forsythe
      Harrison

then the other guys 100% in the argument ahead of him

      Javier Rodriguez
      Holt (based on stuff/pedigree)
      Rustich (based on stuff)
      Niesen
      Fuller
      Urbina

      I’m sure I’ve missed some

Edit- Not a huge fan but Antonini over him is hard to disagree with, Almonte having a very nice year), Valdespin, Turner, Ryan Fraser, etc

what about this satin guy i keep hearing about?

          1. metro

Satin is a former NCAA all-american, the thing is a) he has no position b) he turns 26 in December. Best case is another Murphy type which isn’t awful.

          2. dirtysanchez

            wow..best case scenario is a murphy huh…

thanks again and keep up the good work with the minor league stuff..hellova job!

          3. metro

            Hey,
I’ve been wrong before but his glove is sub-par and he’s going to be 26 to open 2011 so he has both of those things working against him. In his favor is that unlike Murphy he HAS played 2b so he has that added value. If you have any other questions that I know the answer to I am more than happy to answer.

Soft tossers rarely rank highly on prospects list for obvious reasons. The real tests for these guys will be at the higher levels with more patient and advanced hitters.

Free Zapata ! – sorry force of habit

  3. oleosmirf

the problem is other than Mejia the Mets have no real pitching prospects in AA or AAA and those guys that have done well in A ball, have hit a wall in AA.

Most of you die-hards have probably already seen this but in case anyone reading this has missed it I think it’s well worth a few minutes of your time to check out this Buck Showalter-based assessment of Ruben Tejada at ESPN.

    1. Mr North Jersey

      Thx for the link Grave.

    2. youngvalerawest

What’s funny about this reports is that it indicates to me that Tejada’s ceiling is essentially Luis Castillo’s prime years (perhaps with a little less speed and a little more pop). I’m sure we’d all gladly take that. But Ruben has a lot of work left to do with the bat before that occurs.

The defensive upgrade has been obvious and will become moreso as he gains more experience at the position. But regardless of how good he is defensively, this team doesn’t score enough runs to have an automatic out at 2B.

    Metro:

I don’t always comment but I really appreciate that you put this together each day.

I don’t have as much Internet time as I used to so this really helps me continue to follow the minor league system to some degree.

By the way, I watched the Cyclones last week on TV and Ceciliani really jumps out as the one guy on that team that I see as a can’t miss serviceable major leaguer at least. I did not see Farser, though.

    1. metro

No problem at all. When the Mets stunk in the early 90′s I started following the minors and since then it has been something I enjoy. Yeah Ceciliani is a guy I really like. He’s got a bit of pop, great bat control, great speed, really works hard. I think he’s going to be quite good.
