Reposting this from an earlier thread. Just thought this was interesting…

    SS Reyes – 9 million
RF FMart – league minimum pro-rated
    CF Pagan – 1.5 million
    3B Wright – 10 million
    1B Ike – league minimum
    LF Carter – league minimum
    C Thole – league minimum
    2B Tejada – league minimum
    P Pelf – $500 K

It’s the ‘kids’ vs Jimenez, no less. That not only is the ‘cheapest’ ML lineup you’ll probably ever see, it’s also the youngest. This should be interesting….

Young—-yes. Intimidating? Not in the least

Obviously speaking for myself here, but seeing FMart, Ike, Thole, and Tejada is very exciting.

    Just like the early 80s.

The jury is VERY out as to whether this Junior Core will develop as the one from the early 80s did, but not much could guarantee my enthusiasm over the rest of the year more than watching all of these guys play.

ONE player who did not come through the system, and even The Great Carter spent time in Buffalo.

More homegrown than a college dorm.

        Oh, I definitely agree.

He should have Carter’s spot IMHO.

        And probably will next year.

“More homegrown than a college dorm” hahaha, idk about when you went to school, but the size of dorms nowadays do not permit the growth of “vegetation”.

I like the homegrown to some extent, but I’d rather watch a good contending team.

U of Vermont in the late 80s, when Playboy named it the number one party school in the US–and they might have been understating things!

And I completely, totally agree with your second idea–but we don’t have that, so maybe we can watch the embryonic stages of the next really good Mets team, as I remember watching as a kid in the early 80s with Backman, Mookie, Hubie Brooks, then Gooden, Darling, Strawberry, etc. They were terrible in 81, 82, 83, but the good young players kept arriving…

            That’s the one!

Oh, and the other day, when calling you the Dean, I guess maybe I was thinking of a cross between an all-time baseball great like Dizzy Dean and a tough, wise, cool Dean like maybe Dean Keaton from Usual Suspects. When he was alive, of course…

Yes, how about next year in the spring we have a battle between Carter and Horshack for the last OF spot!
