All I have to say is thank goodness that I am on powerful pain medications ! For those of you that might not have heard, I was involved in a bad car accident. I’m ok unfortunately my 2008 Jeep Liberty (from what I understand) looks like a twisted mangled mess – Kinda like this past month for the Mets. I watched last nights game and after Angel Pagan blasted that first inning two run shot, I said to myself “ He maybe we can actually win two in a row!’ As we now know this minor winning streak never came to pass. It wasn’t the fault of Jon Niese – He was sterling over his seven innings of work. I guess we can heap some of the blame on Takahashi since he allowed two base-runners on base – but also garnered two outs. In my opinion Jerry Manuel deserves the lions share of the blame because he tried to over-manage the situation. If you proclaim Takahashi as your eighth inning guy you have to live and die by that decision-especially when you are one out away from escaping the inning !!!. Bringing in Manny Acosta -a man infamous for serving up meatballs that Chef Boyardee would be proud !And where has our offense gone? Why does David Wright look like Buddy Biancalanca all of a sudden ?!? They only produced three hits against a no-name Rockies pitcher named Jeff Francis. That is just pitiful !
But not as pitiful as Francisco Rodriguez’s poor display of behavior after last nights game. I guess we now have to mention him in the same breath as Carl Everett, Ambiorix Burgos and Brett Myers!
![]()
” Soon to replace Doug Sisk In Mets lore !”
And with that said… HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!
Happy Birthday wishes go out to middle reliever from the ’97 team, Barry Manuel (1965).
New York Mets traded lead gloved first baseman,Willie Montanez to the Texas Rangers for Ed Lynch and Mike Jorgensen on August 12, 1979.
New York Mets signed free agent pitcher,Shingo Takatsu on August 12, 2005. Ahhh Shingo – we will always have the Subway series to remember you by.
By the way those pain pills must be strong because last night I had a dream that involved Mo Vaughn, Gene Simmons and Marty Feldman wearing polyester pantsuits battling Raquel Welch, Mimi from ” The Drew Carey Show” and Megan Fox in a no holds barred mud wrestling match ! Unfortunately Mo Vaughn won by disqualification after stripping down to his thong – OHHHH THE PAIN !!!!!

To be fair, I wouldn’t call Jeff Francis a no-namer, but he isn’t Pedro in his prime either. 3 hits… Golden sombrero for Dwright. Golden Gloves for KRod. Are we sure this isn’t being taped for a reality show?

Sucks all the way around but anytime you can walk away from a car accident where your vehicle was basically totaled, you have to consider that a good day. Glad to hear you weren’t seriously hurt.
This team will kill me yet. Along with the on the field disappointments every week there seems to be some new controversy off field with this team. From Johan to Francoeur to KRod, just in the past week or so.
And BTW WFAN is reporting that KRod is still in jail.
Sigh….

David Wright publically questioning the FO goals and mindset of the team as it pertains to fielding a winning team? I missed that story somewhere. WFAN reporting it this morning.
I think the Mets should hire ARod’s PR firm. Those guys are geniuses. They took ARod’s persona, that included the off field negative press surrounding women, his ex, etc. along with the steriod problem and in a year’s time steered him down a path where you hardly ever read any negative off the field stories of him and he’s spitting out the ‘team’ required platitudes ala Jeter.
The Mets could use some magic PR firm like that. Time for Jay to step aside. They can’t even get Gooden autographing a wall at Citi Field right…

Oleo’s right, it’s all about the winning. And the Mets already have A-Rod’s PR firm, it’s Boras.

Yeah but when it’s ARod and his contract and Boras’ percentage on that contract, money is no object. They brought in a special PR team just to overhaul the public’s perception of ARod.

HAHA!! Rusty, I hope you are feeling better.
And throwing Marty Feldman in there really made it just perfect. Still love him from Young Frankenstein and Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother.
FEEL BETTER my friend, and enjoy those pain meds!

Unsubstantiated, unconfirmed reports the family Rodriguez argument had something to do with kids. Father-in-law heard screaming at KRod something along the lines of ‘I want grand kids now, not 3 years from now’.
Have no idea if any of this is true. But if so….dad in law there is not very intuitive. Nothing like picking your place and time, dad. Not that it’s anyone’s business but Frankie and his wife if/when they have kids.
I could never be anyone well known. I’d hate living my life under a microscope for the whole world to see. Takes a special kind of person….

DWright interview playing on WFAN right now with the media trying to get quotes from him on the KRod incident.
Goes along with what I said above about my personal preferences. I’d hate these mikes in my face day after day. For all the bashing some do of DWright and media interviews, I don’t think he gets enough credit. For someone 24/25/26/27 to be able to handle himself in that professional manner day after day is no easy feat, especially when he knows the media is just hanging on every word waiting for some quote they can twist around for a story.

speaking of which Matt Harvey has 4 days left to sign, and i might be in the minority but I hope he doesnt sign.
We currently hold the 11th pick in the draft and Im sure we’ll be in the top 10 by seasons end. How nice would it be if this Harvey kid doesn’t sign (didnt like the pick to begin with) and the Mets have 2 top 10 picks in the 2011 draft.
draft the best LH SP and RH SP they can get, get them signed early enough to go to Brooklyn and thats how we get some pitching prospects into the system.

The problem is that the player selected next season in Harvey’s place will be able to hold the Mets hostage because if he doesn’t sign they just lose the pick.
The other alternative will be that they select a player not as good as Harvey because he’ll sign for less — because it will be more than what he would’ve gotten much later in the draft where he was projected to go.

When we see things like Dwight Gooden’s incorrect years of service on a plaque in the Mets HOF, or pitchers being given credit for WS wins that belong to others on Mets Walk bricks (or whatever that story was) we shouldn’t feel alone in that sort of stupid fact checking error.

Rusty very sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you’re going to be alright. 15 years ago I was in my one and only car accident and I was battered, bruised, cut and had multiple broken ribs and my car was destroyed but it saved my life. So if your Jeep is dead it was a noble sacrifice. It can be replaced, you can’t.

KRod has some serious anger management issues. And all this “I didn’t get to pitch today” thing is to get his option picked up for 2012. Here’s what Cot’s has
# 2012 option becomes guaranteed with:
* 55 games finished in 2011, and
* 100 games finished in 2010-11, and
* doctors declare Rodriguez healthy after 2011
But then he does have 45 games finished this season and I don’t see how he can’t finish 55 games next season if healthy. That means it’s highly likely his contract will be picked up in 2012 for $17.5M. Ouch!

Also there are performance bonuses like
# annual performance bonuses, 2009-11:
* $0.15M each for 50, 55 GF; $0.2M for 60 GF

KRod should have punched Jerry in the face for not putting him in during the 8th inning of a one run game with two outs and the go ahead run on first base (let alone with the bases juiced).
If there was ever any doubt that Jerry is a poor tactician this should seal the deal. And for those how believed (with merit) that he should just finish the season, this should also convince you he has to go immediately. It’s not good for the development of the young players, for the fans or for the veterans who still have some pride to lose in such a manner.

Ran out for an errand. Listened to Jerry’s post game interview on WFAN.
He gave a very long winded explanation on why he didn’t use Frankie in the 8th last night. One point made was there are other BP arms that should be expected to get one or two outs in the 8th. I have to give him that point there. Hindsight is always 20/20. Manny hadn’t given up a run in over 6 games. I really don’t remember the righty/lefty match ups when he was brought in so he might not have been the best guy.
Taka was already used, Parnell is scary lately and not consistent. I guess you could have tried Dessens. Ollie is just a wasted spot.
His explanation included something about since the offense is struggling so much, and the game was tied then, not being able to count on those bats to get the go ahead run by the bottom of the ninth. (was trying to maneuver around some construction so didn’t really catch it all. And you know how it takes Jerry forever to get a point across…..)
