Ikes not in the lineup ? WTF !!!

  2. GravediggerHebner

Wondering if this is going to be “corrected” surprised that Blanco is catching Dickey, not T-Hole.

    1. rustyjr

you know we are talkin about Jerry Here

Jerry must think Ike is a pitcher. Trying to limit his innings.

      From Newsday:

“Ike Davis did not start against a lefthanded pitcher for the third straight time last night as the Mets faced Jeff Francis of the Rockies.

It’s not a platoon thing, though, because the rookie was batting .276 vs. lefties and .243 vs. righthanders. It’s a “get Mike Hessman some at-bats and keep Davis from wearing down” thing.

After batting .214 (but with six home runs) in July, Davis was batting .304 in August. Overall, his .251-15-54 numbers are impressive for a player in only his third professional season.

‘I think the one thing he has done is for such a short professional career he has established himself as a major-league player,’ Jerry Manuel said. ‘That’s very difficult to do. I think as he continues to play at this level, he will have to make adjustments to get to the level of projection that everybody has for him. And I think he will do that.’

Davis is second on the Mets in home runs and RBIs. He began last night with 99 games played; his high in the minors was 114 in 2009. So the Mets are trying to make sure he doesn’t wear down in the season’s final two months.”

Unreal. No Ike, no Thole, no FMart.

I officially HATE Jerry again. And this time, there is NO turning back.

Playing Hessman is an embarrassment. This makes me frigin ill–think about it–our top three non-pitching prospects are on the team and sitting on the bench!

This is bogus! And don’t tell me how great Hamels is. Nonsense. We are out of it and it is time for the kids to show what they can do.

    1. TRS86

I can understand no Fmart. What I don’t get is no Ike or Thole.

      1. kingman 26

        Mystifying and crazy.

I guess I understand, after the 8th inning the other night, seeing the three kids not playing tonight, and having a guy who is mediocre in AAA batting 5th, why people hate Jerry with such a passion.

Please look at Hessman’s AAA career—he seriously makes Carter look like Babe Ruth.

        This is beyond ridiculous.

        1. TRS86

I can’t hate on Hessman, just not the guy for the time. He’s certainly proved himself in AAA and has hit well there this year. There is no doubt he has power. Just to have been in AAA that long he must not have much else. As a guy who can stand at every position, as long as he is on the bench I have no issues. Starting for Ike…

        2. GravediggerHebner

Ultimately I think at this stage the kids should play. I know some disagree and they make valid points. In that context I think the valid point that I disagree with in the assemblage of this lineup is that Cole Hamels has the best batting average against LH hitters of any LH starter in MLB and maybe Jerry doesn’t want to depress any of his young LH hitters by sending them out there against that.

I think the converse, that any one or more of them getting a hit or two would be of a greater benefit to them than going 0-4 against Hamels would harm them. It’s another example of what Ceetar often points out about Manuel managing scared and passively rather than confident and aggressively.

          1. oleosmirf

i can understand sitting F-Mart against Hamels. Why Thole or Ike isn’t playing is beyond me.

maybe they are debating DFAing him but they want to give him more AB to see if maybe they have something?

  5. oleosmirf

the thing is Jerry most likely has no clue Ike is doing better against LHP…

    1. gategem

If you see my earlier comment it contained a quote from Newsday where it explained that Jerry is fully aware of Davis’ performance against left handed pitchers. However, Davis’ “ high in the minors was 114 (games) in 2009. So the Mets are trying to make sure he doesn’t wear down in the season’s final two months.”

  6. njstuckintx

    sigh…

  7. asod75

Words can’t describe how angry I am. At the state of this team. How it’s become an embarassment off the field, but more because our idiot manager never looks at stats or stays true to even his own words. He said Thole was Dickey’s personal catcher and he’s done a nice job with him. Why change? The only way these young kids will ever learn to hit lefties is to stay in there. In fact, Ike has better numbers avg. wise against lefties. Thole gives you good ABs and while you might have a slight dropoff, I think his style of hitting would play against lefties. Every time I think Jerry can’t be any more of a moron, he proves me wrong. It’s like last year all over again when he played the useless Tatis over the kid Evans just to squeeze a few more wins out of a lost season. Hate this guy as a manager, absolutely hate him.

  8. metsfan4decades

    Absurd….no Ike? No Thole?

Is there some point to this? If there is, it completely alludes me….

    1. metsfan4decades

      Hessman’s career vs. LHP:

      .207/.296/.391 w/4HR in 87 ABs

Ike’s line vs. LHP with the club this year:

      .273/.340/.409 w/2 HR in 88 ABs

Must be those two extra HRs for Hessman.

      Sigh…….

      1. njstuckintx

Wow. So much for logic on this decision.

  9. metsfan4decades

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Francisco Rodriguez is expected to return to Citi Field tomorrow, and will be activated in time for their game against the Phillies at 7:10 pm.

Rubin says Rodriguez will likely address the media at that time.

    1. njstuckintx

any chance gary throws out there “K-rod handcuffs the batter with that curve!”. That would make me guffaw.

      1. stickguy

I am expecting a “he punched him out” if he happens to get a K.

        1. njstuckintx

          +10…9…8…

          1. GravediggerHebner

“Rodriguez treats Rollins like his common-law-father-in-law and KO’s him on 3 straight hard ones.”

          2. asod75

I’d much prefer a Rollins or Victorino HBP with “Rollins struck by a high hard one from K-Rod”

  10. stickguy

jerry does need to be canned, like a month ago. actually about a year ago.

I do like hessman for the bench though. he can play just about anywhere (well, fill out the position). as a bench/PH guy yes, but not starting every day.

    Jidiot.

  11. GravediggerHebner

Barring overnight change KRod will be active tomorrow and it’s also being reported that Misch will start tomorrow – so 2 guys on the roster today will not be on it tomorrow. Say your goodbyes now, but to whom?

    1. njstuckintx

      Iggy and…

    2. asod75

I’d go with Valdes and Dessens, since Dessens seems to be collecting mothballs in the pen lately anyway. Plus, neither guy has much of a future with the club. Like him or not, we’ve got to see if Iggy can be of any use.

      1. asod75

Of course I’d keep one of Valdes or Dessens if they got rid of Ollie, but we all know that’s not happening….

      2. GravediggerHebner

I like your idea of Dessens. I just stole it and tweeted it as my own. :-)

      3. njstuckintx

Iggy has more upside (future) for sure.

What happened with Dessens? Did he kick Jerry’s dog or something?

        1. oleosmirf

not to mention a contract for next year…

  12. asod75

He probably pitched poorly one game, therefore pitching himself out of Jerry’s three-man bullpen rotation. Never liked him all too much anyway, and now, they might as well give the guys with higher upsides/possible futures with the club a chance.

  13. stickguy

kingman, if you are out there, bad news. I am not making it up to NY this weekend, so I won’t be at the track.

but, at least I can catch the mets on TV while stuck at home, since they are playing my local team.

  14. metsfan4decades

On the pregame show…Omar completely at a loss for words concerning KRod. Other than saying he’s disappointed….he must have started three different sentences he couldn’t finish.

You would think….knowing he was going to be asked…it wouldn’t be so hard to have a canned answer ready.

    1. asod75

It’s Omar…dealing with the press or speaking publicly clearly not one of his strong points.

      1. oleosmirf

either are most aspects of being a GM

        1. asod75

Agreed, but I was being nice. Omar, like Jerry, seem to be good guys, but both of them are in over their heads. Time for change, and everyone but the Mets’ brass seems to know it.

  15. metsfan4decades

Bobby O asked by Carlin why he thinks Ike isn’t in the lineup tonight.
Bobby O said he’s young, he’s healthy, he’s the Mets apparent 1st baseman of the future. He did have a terrible July hitting like .220 but he got hot in Aug. hitting over .300 so far.
Said Hessman is an average 1st baseman defensively but Ike is a plus defender.
Finally he said….’Basically, I don’t have an answer for why Ike isn’t in there’.

    1. stickguy

      jerry being jerry.
