Even if it’s only for one night…

From KcMets.com

As much as I would love it, the Mets can’t win 10 games in one night.  But last night was one of those games  when I just forgot, at least in the 9th inning, that the Mets are irrelevant.

I forgot that they are just at .500

I forgot that they haven’t won back to back games since June.

I forgot that the umpires blew the home run call.

I forgot that K-Rod was in Cuffes.

I even let myself forget that Cole Hamels got the only hit.

When Frenchy caught last fly ball, it was a Mets win moment, even if it’s a hallow moment.  Let’s face it, Philly comes in to Citi with an impressive win over the Dodgers the night before and did you feel that those “fightin’ Phillies” were abouth to start hitting?  Remember last week?  But last night was a reality check, at least for the Phillies rather than the Mets.

It’s nice to a thorn in the side of a team trying to clinch the division.  It feels good to watch Victorino missplay a ball and I’m playing the smallest violin for Cole Hamels who can’t get any run support and can’t win in New York.

For a friday night, the Mets made baseball fun again.

You think it could happen again this weekend?

I sure hope it can happen again. If ever there was a time to go on a streak, the next few series provide the best opportunity.

Then again, all those games against the diamond backs was supposed to do that too.

im torn – I want to see this mets team make the playoffs – but I dont want Jerry back next season ! – so I guess that I have to hope this team can go 88-74 and just miss so Jerry will be gone lol- i know i am bad

i’ll trade a cameo in the playoffs for another year(s) of Jerry. unfortunately even if the Mets were to go on this magic run, the Braves would have to lose, something they havent done often since april.

Well….. We are 9 games back with 47 left to play, hardly impossible. Remember when the Phillies won the division when they were 7 back with 17 to play? Or when the Rockies won 20 of 21 or something like that to end the season, which propelled them into the playoffs and later the World Series? It can happen to anyone, just probably not the Mets.

Anything can happen but I’ve just about resigned myself to the fact it won’t this year….

That being said I want to win every single game left with the Phillies. Want to have a hand in sending them to the golf course in Oct.

Baseball history shows that it’s not impossible but it is incredibly unlikely that these Mets will make the post season and I can’t ignore that fact.

Given that, other than monitoring the development of younger players that can hopefully help for the future, the thing I most look forward to for the balance of this season is the Mets contributing to preventing the Phillies from returning to the post season.

After last night the Mets have 8 games left against Philly. The Mets have not allowed a run to Philly at home and it’s conceivable the Mets will sweep the 5 remaining home games with Philly. That plus a surprising series win later on the road could go a long way toward being that thorn in their side which would be a nice accomplishment in an otherwise mediocre season.
