The New York Mets called up Pat Misch (0-1) from AAA Buffalo to start tonight’s game having recently moved pitcher Hisanori Takahashi to the bullpen. Misch responded with a decent effort, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks over 6 innings. But he made a throwing error, Ruben Tejada made a throwing error and David Wright made a fielding error contributing to 3 unearned runs for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Mets offense was impotent against Roy Halladay (15-8) who shut the Mets down over 8 innings, allowing just 4 hits. Only Philadelphia’s 1st run, which assured them they would not be shut out for the 5th consecutive time at Citi Field, was earned. It came in the 3rd inning when with 2 outs Halladay hit a single to break up Misch’s perfect game. Jimmy Rollins followed with a single and then Placido Polanco singled to drive in Halladay for a 1-0 Phillies’ lead. Ryan Madson made Philly fans mildly tense by loading the bases with 2 outs in the 9th but got Josh Thole to strike out preserving the victory for Halladay. Final score Philadelphia 4, New York 0.

Well, it was a long shot going in. 1 run, 4 runs, made no difference.
Misch looked good though. I’d say he’s earned another start in Houston later this week.
And um…..what’s with the defense guys? They’re either flawless or make a bunch of crappy plays.
Love the ‘About The Author’ tidbit – lol…..

Gotta get that KRod interview in on post game, huh guys?
Maybe if you just keep pinging him, asking him the same questions over and over, he’ll snap again and give you another week of fodder for the airwaves.
How about you discuss Misch’s outing and speculate about him getting another start this week?
Love SNY, love this team but this season it’s walking a fine line sometimes thinking I’m watching TMZ not SNY….

I keep having flashbacks waiting for a Bobby Bonilla “wipe the smile off my face” moment or offer to “take ya up to the Bronx”. Definite fringe feel of proding to get a reaction. Such a shame after such good feel moments in the first half wiped away the circus atmosphere and focused on baseball and now we’re back in the muck.

Yeah, I don’t get it. I remember reading in Newsday back in June they had 2 national broadcast games with one against the Yanks and one against I believe the Phil’s or Braves and that was supposed to be it. I guess this was a shedule change selection ESPN was entitled to make as per their contract.

You are correct they announced the change just a few weeks ago (when the Mets were still “in it”).

I am starting to not look forward to this off season. I have a bad feeling I am going to be sorely disappointed.
I think this team is close, and a couple of key changes and bold moves could put them right in it next year.
but since the key change is bringing in a new head of BB ops (a baseball ops guru to run the baseball side), and a GM to work with him (with omar reassigned), I am probably already in a frenchy (down 0-2).
hell, even a new GM would be an improvement. Likely not enough though, since, IMO, they need a major rethink of roster philosophy, and that means a strong new top guy (which of course pushes jeffy off into the non-field related side of the house).
then, a few bold proactive moves. maybe some of that “vision” thang? And part of that is identifying the decaying body parts that must be excised, even if it means DFA. then amputating them. That at least will give the team a major breath of fresh air.
Then, you need the FO to figure out which prospects to keep, and which to trade. And identify your holes to fill (gaping, and nice to try and upgrade). Then do the work to get them filled.
Oh, and given is Jerry and the Keystone Koaches all need to go. Except chip hale. he can stay. Unless he is the one that told Wright to Ole, then he goes too.
potentially, they will only be looking to fill 1 starting spot, a couple bench spots (with lots of options on hand), some pen arms (ditto), and 1 SP (plus AAA depth).
does not seem like much, but I still don’t have faith that the current FO can pull it off!

to me the answer is painstakingly obvious and so easy to accomplish
1) release Ollie, Castillo, Francouer, Maine, Barajas, Feliciano (if he is type A and declines arbitration)
2) fire Manuel and all coaches except Chip Hale (i would want Omar gone too but he doesnt stand in the way of this plan)
3) trade for Garza or Shields as one will be 100% moved
4) sign Wigginton/Uribe/Hudson (in order of preference) on a 1 year deal
5) sign an 8th inning guy due to extreme number of good options on the market (Guerrier/Rauch/Downs/Francisco/Balfour/Crain/Benoit/Frasor/Dotel/Wood/Farnsworth
6) after all that is done, Omar can then go out and sign anyone and everyone he wants to a MILB deal for depth

i read that only 30% of Garza or Shields would be moved and that 30% would not include their right arms.

that got long, so continuing…
anyway, the obvious is reup dickey, and add 1 more SP. and get a new 2B. otherwise, a few spare part shuffles, and there is your team.
And I am of course assuming that regardless of other moves, ollie, frenchy and slappy disappear.
but, the bolder moves are making something happen with beltran (potentially opening up another spot for new blood in the OF). Truly radical stuff (wright, reyes, that I dont see no matter who is in charge).
Or, not quite so radical, but still bold. Ike for a stud young SP type? Bay somehow?
Sometimes you gotta think big and/or outside the box, and really, i just don’t see that coming out of omar at this point.

I am not sure radical is needed. It may be needed after 2011 but I don’t think it is for next year. What IS needed is a reliable bat for 2B, a mid-rotation pitcher, a BP rebuilding. I think even Omar can handle that. It’s almost as though Perez and Castillo have forced him to handle that.

I am not sure what is actually needed. But I would like people in charge that will actually think it through, for real, and not automatically just assume the answer is to just plug the obvious holes (as you indicated) and nothing more or “bigger”.
I think what you listed is the minimum off-season retooling that any good team normally has to do. Is it enough? maybe, but I am pretty sure that with Jeffy and Omar sailing the ship on, likely that is all you get (and be lucky if you get that much).

I just don’t see that much more needed for next year (other than attempting to trade Beltran which I think they will attempt). Now if next year does not work then big changes will and should happen.
I just don’t see doing something drastic like trading Wright or Reyes as an option nor do I think it would be productive to trade guys like Ike or Niese.

Stick buddy, take off the orange-and-blue tinted glasses.
Ike looks more like Mike Jacobs every day.
All he does is strike out. No one is trading a young stud pitcher for Ike. No chance, no way, no how.

Misch deserved a better fate what can be said that hasn’t been said already?
“It is what it is” to coin a phrase that Reyes likes to use.
It was good to see KRod quickly back in a game and pitch a solid inning.
Got to watch game with family so that was good for a change.
I hope they let Ike get his ab’s in the rest of the way. Halladay was tough on him but in time if he is indeed the future 1st baseman he will take what happened tonight and learn from it.
58-58 wow only 12 games away from matching last year’s total amount of wins. I wonder if they can get there before August?

LoL I can see that it’s late cause that should of said before September.
It really has been a hard month.
