Well, I definitely think sitting and watching future first ballot HOFer Mike “I Make Chris Carter Look Like Babe Ruth” Hessman play definitely is helping Ike realize how diseased the team has become.

Eh. Ike came up and did well for a few weeks, then the pitchers adjusted to him.

Not sure HoJo is to blame; Ike might just be Mike Jacobs 2.0. I hope not though.

I’ve always wondered if that hitch in his swing would be exploited at some point. Hopefully he can correct it.

or he could just be a rookie that is struggling. Heyward and Ike have extremely similar numbers. the only diff is Ike plays 1B where his counterparts all have better numbers.

      1. njstuckintx

If only Frenchy was back in ATL and was playing over Heyward, I think we would have a reasonable comparison.

        1. oleosmirf

well i was referring to the fact that despite having extremely similar numbers to Heyward, Ike is worse than most other 1B around the league while Heyward is better than most RF.

          1. TRS86

That’s not really true. The only RF below him in average are Carlos Quientin and our very own Frenchy.
He has 12 HR ranking him 16th, Frenchy has 11.
            17th in doubles,
            24th in hits,
            17th in SLG,
            12th in OPS.
His OPS is saved by the fact that he takes a lot of walks at this point.

‘My advice to Ike is to ditch the advice he’s getting from Howard Johnson. Instead, hearken back to the advice you received from Bisons hitting coach Jack Voigt and manager Ken Oberkfell, two solid baseball minds.’

Or maybe we could ditch Jerry and HoJo and bring Voigt and Oberkfell up…..

well that sucks baseball reference tables kill the column.

its a shame they were pretty useful tools

Ah..I was wondering. It thought it was my comment that appeared to have broken something. I did notice your table above my comment but it appeared fine on my screen.

  6. Mr North Jersey

I see what happened. The close Div tag was not carried over. I am glad that is what it was then phew. I really enjoy B.R.
Here are their splits hopefully finally without incident.

Ike Davis GS AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
    2010 Totals 98 371 51 91 21 0 15 54 2 0 42 105 .245 .322 .423 .745
Jason Heyward GS AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
    2010 Totals 92 355 55 91 23 3 12 52 8 5 57 91 .256 .368 .439 .808

Looks like whatever might have broke, you fixed it.
Table and comments below your table look good on my screen.

      1. Mr North Jersey

yeah I initially checked it thinking I had copied the entire code but sure enough after I went back and added a table with only 2 columns thinking maybe it was just too wide I saw that in fact the close div tag didnt copy over and once that was corrected it indeed fixed things.

So you are saying that Ike Davis is NOT a scrub and Jason Heyward is NOT god?

      Well hell.

      1. njstuckintx

Scrub, God… Depends on what position you play.

      2. Mr North Jersey

Is that what I am saying?

        Who knew?

I though I was just showing that they had similar stats.

I need to be more careful what I say in the future I may post Ubaldo Jimenez’s stats and people will think I mean he is the anti-Christ.

        1. TRS86

Just making a joke on the perceptions of these two players right now.

          1. Mr North Jersey

I wasn’t aware that their was a perception that Ike was a scrub.

I need to read the posts you read cause clearly sportspyder is failing at showing me these perceptions of Ike being a scrub.

          2. TRS86

A lot more comments recently and a few tweets mentioning Ike to be the 2nd coming of Jacobs…

          3. Mr North Jersey

Ahh I just saw 1 in our comments section I believe but that’s about it.

I’ll be in section 110 tonight, section 205 tomorrow and I believe a box somewhere on Thursday (if not a box, i think something like section 104-ish?). Got to love free tickets!

  11. wannybackstra

Ike Davis has hit for a higher average this season v. left handed pitchers. Ike Davis hasn’t played recently against left handed pitchers. Ike Davis’s batting average has declined recently.

    Anyone surprised besides Jerry?

I never heard of the type of hitter who gets better by sitting every couple of days.

Just needs a breather, right? And only seems to need those breathers when a lefty is on the mound? Coincidence?

    1. TRS86

Can you say conflict of interest.

      1. wannybackstra

I can. But I don’t see its relevance here.

It’s not that Jerry believes he can save his job by playing Hessman because Ike can’t hit lefties. Its that Jerry doesn’t even know that Ike CAN hit lefties.

        1. TRS86

I refuse to believe that Jerry, nor anyone associated with the Mets, does not know about splits.

          1. wannybackstra

He may know about them. But does he pay attention to them? Or value them?

If he knows about them and appreciates them then why does Ike sit against lefties?

          2. TRS86

I can’t answer that. I would suspect you are right that he does not always value them.

      2. oleosmirf

so why were you and others against firing Jerry last month when i wanted to fire him due to this conflict of interest you now speak of…

        1. TRS86

We were fine with firing Jerry. I just did not want it to be Backman. I would rather have a guy that has no chance of being manager next year.
