-Solid job by the Mets signing 1st rounder Matt Harvey (2.52 million) and Greg Peavey (200 K), no word on Drew Martinez yet which probably means he didn’t sign. The Mets ended up spending about 4 million on the draft which I suspect will once again be in the bottom third of the league
Buffalo-
Justin Turner 2-4, run, 2 rbi… (remind me again why Tejada is playing over him if they are trying to pretend they are still in it? Turner is 25 no confirmed AAA player)

Kirk Nieuwenhuis 0 for 4, 3 Ks, .250 (striking out a lot so far at AAA)
Fernando Nieve 6.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 Ks
Mike O’Connor 2.1 IP, H, 5 Ks
St. Lucie-
Pedro Zapata 2-6, rbi, run
Wilmer Flores 3-7, 2b, rbi
Richard Lucas 2-6, 2 runs
Eric Beaulac 5 innings 5 hits 3R/2ER 3 walks, 9 k’s (very nice!)
SAL- (game 1)
John Church 7 IP 1 hit 1 walk 5 k’s
game 2
cf Matt den Dekker 2 for 3, run, RBI (7), BB
Robbie Shields 1 for 3, run, RBI BB,
Gabriel Zavala IP, 2 Ks, 0.64 era
Kingsport-

im curious, according to BR, the Mets got a 3rd round pick (which they used on Robbie Shields) as compensation for the Yankees signing AJ Burnett.
Since AJ Burnett hasnt been in the Mets system since 1997, i was wondering how that happened or is it an error?

That is an error. If you notice below it mentions the Blue Jays got compensation (Jacob Marisnick) for AJ Burnett. I think they just copied the same information twice.

Also if you look at the draft order the Mets don’t have any other 3rd round pick and the only way that could happen would be signing 3 type-A FA which we know the Mets did not do prior to last season. Thus the pick they used for Shields was their “normal” 3rd rounder.

speaking of the 2009 draft, Omar pretty much botched that one, no?

I agree though. I had to look at it myself simply because Burnett WAS an ex-Met but I’m 99.9% sure they simply copied the same info twice.

2009 draft was absolute horrible. 2010 looks significantly better
