Who is the league’s worst franchise? I’m sure many critics say the Mets are. Jeff Pearlman of SI.com certainly thinks so.

“No, the 2010 Mets are simply worthless. They are a listless, heartless, wretched baseball team; an entertainment value sans entertainment, playing ugly within the confines of beautiful new Citi Field. When the biggest story of the year is Francisco Rodriguez, your star closer, beating up the grandfather of his kids, well, you’ve got problems.”

It’s so hard to dispute this. We are playing listless, ugly baseball. I watch night after night, every game, and my eyes are seeing exactly this. There are some bright spots sprinkled in between but not too many.

Mr. North Jersey put up comparisons on the post game thread between 2009 vs 2010 as I was commenting this team has actually played worse than last year’s after the ASB, so my eyes were telling me. Turns out stats don’t lie….
