I don’t have a problem with Carter batting 4th but I’m mildly surprised he’s in RF and Pagan in LF.

There aren’t any oddities to Pittsburgh’s field, where it would be better for him in right vs. left?

beats me. that could be the explanation. i’m just wondering how many runners will go first to third on him.

well, normally you put the stronger defender and faster guy in RF. But hey, remember that it is Jerriatric making out the line up, so don’t look too hard for logic.

My vague recollection of PNC Park is that LF is the vast expanse while RF is short with a scoreboard wall. I think Bay would refer to his experience at that LF to alleviate concerns that he couldn’t cover Citi Field LF.

The bigger issue to me is that regardless of the size of the respective corner outfields, it is likely that the throw from RF will still be the longest and Carter will be abused by runners going to third base.
But that’s a judgment call and I won’t quibble with it. There are plenty of more obvious opportunities to complain about this manager’s decisions.

mentioned this earlier, and it may explain some of th eangst about Jerry in charge (not to mention the pathetic offense).
By my count, the Mets have had at least 4 guys start a game hitting clean up that either started the season in the minors, or ended up getting sent down due to sheer suckitude.
Carter, Ike, Cat and jacobs.
I feel like I am missing someone else, but maybe not.
Still, that is a lot isn’t it?

Or just sheer number of cleanup batters in general. Or number of lineup variations.

Carter’s been the Mets best cleanup hitter! Take that Kingman!

LOL!
Yes sir, Carter and Hessman and we are off to the races for 2011!
Let’s just hope we can outrace the Nats!

So, time to find out of Tejada’s hit was the start of a surge to hit .200 or merely his hit for the month.

Just another sign we’re not a contending team. How many teams bound for the post season have lineups night after night that seem to have been drawn from a hat?
Only 2 things you could count on coming out of the ASB was that Reyes would bat leadoff, the pitcher would bat 9th…

According to baseball-reference the Mets have used 89 different lineups (not including different pitchers, with pitchers it’s 111 different lineups) in 121 games.
They’ve used 8 different #4 hitters: Jacobs 2, Bay, 36, Catalanotto 1, Carter 2 (before tonight), Wright 15, Tatis 1, Davis 49, Beltran 15.
ATL has used 85 diff lineups, 4 diff #4 hitters.
PHI has used 78 diff lineups, 5 diff #4 hitters.
FLA has used 58 diff lineups, 3 diff #4 hitters.
WAS has used 93 diff lineups, 3 diff #4 hitters.
Not sure what if anything this means but there it is.

I forgot about Tatis, so I was right. 5 guys that were MiL or cut (not sure if Tatis officially was or not, but he would have been!)

Don’t really have any problem with Carter hitting fourth. At this point, it’s a crap shoot with the emphasis on crap.

Pregame show leads off with news that Jerry told them Jason Bay’s season is likely over.
Just piling it on….
Not that we needed Bay back down the stretch but I would have liked to have gone into the offseason knowing he’s healthy and possibly seeing signs of life with his bat – all looking towards 2011 season.

well, so much for trading him!
