It’s either Ollie P or jay Horowitz – I just know it is !

  2. TRS86

Can’t be Ollie, is he even in the clubhouse? LOL.

    1. kingman 26

I did spot him and his moronic haircut in the pen today….

  3. kingman 26

    Who couldn’t it be??

    1. TRS86

LOL, while true, I think that would be a grass is greener situation huh? Dodgers in the West with one more win and ownership that’s even more of a mess.

      1. kingman 26

Had to step away, but that really was a fine debate before.

        Appreciated you and Stick’s thoughts.

Imagine that might be a preview of many, many, many similar debates this winter and fall!

    2. kingman 26

Very true…other side of course is being in LA and the palm trees and the beaches and the great weather 365 days a year…as opposed to Queens!

      LOL!

      1. TRS86

I was surprised to see that it looks like Wright is turning on Manuel if that quote I read about David reminding Jerry that he is part of the problem is true.

        1. kingman 26

          Yeah, saw that too.

When a manager says something like that, I would expect a guy like Wright to respond in such fashion….Jerry, with his lineup choices, really is in no position to be calling his players “pathetic.”

I still wonder what the players think of some of his cleanup batter choices this year—pathetic might be a seriously sanitized version of what they think!

          1. stickguy

yeah, it seems like the players have tried to protect Jerry. But if he is going to start throwing them under the bus, expect retaliation.

The players are smart enough to know he is dead man walking, and at this point, they probably just want Jerry to leave them alone.

          2. TRS86

What’s even more is there is only one player on the Mets qualified to bat clean up right now and he does not have the confidence in him to do it. I can understand batting Wright 3rd, he’s the best hitter. How do you rational batting Wright 5th?

          3. stickguy

It’s Jerry. rationality is not in his vocabulary. Or gut.

          4. metsfan4decades

Yeah, I don’t know how anyone can blame Wright at this point for seemingly starting to sound like he’s disgusted with the whole situation.

There’s something going on with this team all right but I don’t think apathy is the problem…

          5. stickguy

something that a new GM (for the vision) and manager (for the execution) can go a long way to fix.

          6. metsfan4decades

Yes, please. Jerry, I think we all agree, is a dead man walking. I just don’t see how the Wilpons can justify on any level keeping Omar as the GM.

          7. Mr North Jersey

This off season will be an interesting one indeed. I await to see what if anything will be done and who will do it.

    3. metsfan4decades

Which I think goes along with my opinion earlier that I do not believe on any level this current crop of Mets do not care about winning, are lazy, just cashing paychecks, playing for the name on the back of the uniform instead of the team on the front – (just to name a few examples if I’ve what I’ve been reading from Met fans across the blog sphere).

The fact that Wright has made some thinly veiled comments in the past couple of weeks pointing to his disgust, anger, frustration (or all of them) on what’s going on hints at this. Or that Castillo wants out b/c he WANTS to play..or Francoeur wants a trade because he WANTS to play every day…or that Carter is the first at the field everyday getting ready and so on.

Morale is at an all time low on this team and that has to change. Enough is enough already. Change is needed and IMO it has to start at the top with Omar.

      1. TRS86

        I agree.

      2. stickguy

and there would be a riot (fans and players) if they tried to bring jerry back!

      3. kingman 26

Sorry MF4D—if you truly care about winning and the name on the front of the uni, you are not sitting playing cards before a game when your team has–quite deservedly–become the biggest overpaid mediocre joke in baseball.

  4. stickguy

and, if martino is going to put nonsense like this up, name names baby!

    1. TRS86

      Oh I agree.

    2. asod75

Martino, the Phils’ shill, stirring things up. Don’t like that guy. At all.

  5. Gonzo Will

Has to be a vet who said it.

    1. TRS86

      Perhaps, or no one.

      1. stickguy

that’s one thing that bugs me about the media now, with all this quick hit, move on postings, especially twitter.

You get no sense that there is any kind of fact checking or even truth behind it. Lot’s of flippant, off the cuff comments. So sure, he could easily have just made it up, knowing that he would never have to name names and it would have the 1/2 life of a fruit fly.

how hard is it to believe that a “reporter” like this could go from something he thought they might say, and tweeting it as if it really did?

        1. TRS86

Nor do you get the context in which it was said. Perhaps it was in relation to the weather as Kingman said. To me as a reporter you either come out and say who said what or you don’t say it.

          1. Mr North Jersey

If as the reporter you either come out and say who said what or you don’t say it.

Why if you believe this to be so do you then report a story that you feel should not have been said to begin with?

          2. TRS86

What I believe and what I post are can be 2 different things. Do you not feel that this tweet is newsworthy regardless if it is true?

If Bobby V came out and said Darryl Strawberry stole his coke, shouldn’t I post it regardless if it is true? It’s Mets news either way.

          3. Mr North Jersey

So your saying that even though you don’t believe that the reporter should report something like what he did above. It’s ok if you report something you don’t believe he should of reported to begin with?

Isn’t that the same argument the reporter would use?

He is sitting there saying I know I should not report this without naming the name but the story is too good to not report it.

          4. TRS86

            Title: Disgruntled Mets?

Again, when you come out and post that there is a player saying that he wants off the team then it’s news even if it’s not true.

          5. Mr North Jersey

“Again, when you come out and post that there is a player saying that he wants off the team then it’s news even if it’s not true.”

I believe the key word was “half jokingly”. but again my focus is on the idea that you can further something that you condemn.

          6. Mr North Jersey

If it is newsworthy or not I can’t say since that would be a matter of opinion. Some may say it is while others don’t whose to say who is right? If you feel that it is newsworthy is really all that matters.

The whole bobby v and coke thing I don’t know how that fits here.

All I am focusing on the idea that you believe reporters should not report something like what was said above without a name but it is ok for you to further report it.

          7. TRS86

            I am sure you are.

Again, I can’t be any more clear can I? What I post as Mets news and what I believe to be true can be 2 different things.

Now do I believe that someone said it? Most likely. However, back to Stick’s point. There really is no accountability for reporters.

          8. TRS86

“Nor do you get the context in which it was said. Perhaps it was in relation to the weather as Kingman said. To me as a reporter you either come out and say who said what or you don’t say it.”

What does that have to do with me posting what a Mets beat writer said anyway?

          9. Mr North Jersey

I see well since you see it as 2 different things I won’t push it any further.

I just find that saying that a reporter should not report something but then it ok if you report the exact same thing you are saying he shouldn’t strikes me as somewhat of a contradiction.

I may be wrong but that is the perception I get.

          10. TRS86

You are, but it’s ok. LOL.

          11. Mr North Jersey

I am sure you would see it that way.

          12. TRS86

And I am sure that you would be sure that I would see it that way.

          13. Mr North Jersey

Wow if I knew you wanted the last word so bad I would of never said “I am sure you would see it that way.” To only get a reply of “And I am sure that you would be sure that I would see it that way.” Sounds almost childish by that point.

          14. TRS86

Of course it’s childish. It was a joke.

          15. Mr North Jersey

Don’t quit your day job :-P

          16. TRS86

            Please?

  6. stickguy

well, since the good news keeps on coming (already losing turner today), I expect to be seeing the report on the upcoming surgery sometime tomorrow.

“The day wouldn’t get much better as the PawSox collected wins of 9-2 and 7-5 in an afternoon that also saw Fernando Martinez unable to play the second game with a right knee injury”

  7. GravediggerHebner

“Are you ready for some football?”

That song has been going through my mind since shortly after the All-Star break and it gets louder every day.

    1. Mr North Jersey

Dude are you kidding? HardKnocks is already a can’t miss show in our household.

    2. Mr North Jersey

Dude what is it with this FMart kid.

      This from Bisons.com
“Martinez played the entire first game, but could be seen nursing his right knee in the field and out of the batter’s box. Oberkfell said he aggravated the knee trying to beat out a doubleplay in the sixth inning. The following inning, Martinez couldn’t chase down a fly ball in the gap. The coaching staff saw and kept him out of the second game against the Red Sox.”

      1. TRS86

That’s what I wanted to add to the Turner post. The Tweet from Rubin on the matter. Still not sure exactly how to do that. I can do it sometimes. Sent you an email.

        1. Mr North Jersey

i emailed you what i think you wanted to know. It is pretty much staright forward the only thing I didnt say was when you paste the html code in your post make sure you are in HTML mode and not visual and do not switch to visual once you pasted your code or it will mess the code up.

          1. TRS86

            Thanks.

        2. asod75

If Turner is out for the year, I’d like them to call up Josh Satin from Binghamton. Don’t think he’s a long-term solution at second base, but could be an interesting righty utility option. Has played first, second and third and has an OPS close to .900 between two levels this year. 40 doubles last year, 37 doubles and 11 homers this year. Would be better than the Ramon Martinez/Argenis Reyes types we’ve seen the last several years. Satin is oldish for a prospect (turns 26 in September) but has hit pretty well wherever he’s been with a decent walk rate.

          1. asod75

            turns 26 in December I meant….

          2. stickguy

works for me. As long as I never have to see slappy again. And I have seen enough of tejada this year to have seen enough of tejada this year.

  8. metsfan4decades

and wow…talk about a low morale. Just reading where Lou PIniella has called it quits. He can’t even muster up the motivation to finish out the season with the Cubs.

We’ve got the opposite here. The manager desperately wants to stay and many of the players want to leave….

    1. TRS86

Wasn’t there something about a family reason for Lou? Did not research it.

      1. stickguy

supposedly his mother is very ill, which is why he left now, instead of finishing out the year (as he was planning to previously).

plus he gets to avoid any going away tour. He seems like the kind of guy that really wouldn’t enjoy that!

        1. TRS86

Agreed. Now they can start the Lou to NY backpages even earlier.

        2. metsfan4decades

ah…I just saw the mention of his ailing mother. Can’t blame him then for wanting to leave a bit earlier…especially since the Cubs aren’t going anywhere this year.

          1. Mr North Jersey

True it’s a shame he didn’t go out with a win. He is/was always one great manager in my eyes.

  9. metsfan4decades

Was out all day and just catching up on some reading. Barajas is one class act. His parting words show his professionalism and if he was a part of the ‘disgruntled’ Mets, he kept it to himself.

    From Ruben’s article:

Barajas said he saw this move coming.

“When you have a guy as talented as Josh — a young guy who you see as part of your core nucleus going into the future — if he’s up here and he’s playing well, you’re going to want to keep playing him,” Barajas said. “And I understand that. I’ve been around the game long enough to know what direction teams are trying to go. For me, if that was going to be the case and there was an opportunity for me to go somewhere else and get some playing time, then that would probably be the best-case scenario for everybody involved. … Now Josh has a chance to not look over his shoulder.”

    1. Mr North Jersey

Nice quote 4d. It’s good to see some people get it. Now if the Mets could only accept that it’s time to look ahead and stop playing around and work toward that endeavor rather than the illusion of still trying to make the playoffs we would be all the better for it.

      1. metsfan4decades

If losing 2-1 to the Pirates – THE PIRATES – and not being able to generate more than one scratch out run in the 1st inning, with your ace on the mound pitching a game that should be good enough for a W…..doesn’t sink in, it never will…

  10. metsfan4decades

Someone posted this over on AA. (Just another reason I strongly feel Omar must go.)

NYM opening day lineup — where are they now?

    1. SS Alex Cora [RELEASED]
    2. 2B Luis Castillo [BENCHED FOR A ROOKIE WHO CAN’T HIT MLB PITCHING]
    3. 3B David Wright
    4. 1B Mike Jacobs [RELEASED]
    5. LF Jason Bay [STILL SEEING STARZZZZ]
    6. CF Gary Matthews Jr. [RELEASED]
    7. RF Jeff Francoeur [BENCHED]
    8. C Rod Barajas [RELEASED]
    9. SP Johan Santana

    1. GravediggerHebner

Seeing it just that way makes me laugh out loud at how much time and energy was spent on bringing Jerry Manuel down this year – look what he had to work with. Yes he may not have utilized the roster in the most efficient/productive manner but it’s tough to make diamonds out of dung.

      1. Mr North Jersey

And yet Jerry still must go.

      2. Mr North Jersey

I mean i do recall screaming at Jerry early in the year for insisting on playing the likes of Jacobs and Matthews jr over Davis and a Pagan.

Still the reason this team is playing the way they have is not solely Manuel’s fault.

That blame is too big for any 1 person. That falls on the shoulders on everyone in the organization. Everyone being the coaches, managers, players, FO and ownership.

  11. johan4cy

AHH!!! The Mets suck, good night.

  12. asod75

As a journalist, I’ve never been a fan of “unnamed sources,” especially when writing something that is sure to cause damage. Again, Martino is a douche.
