    wow…29/30 since 2006…that explains ALOT.

May as well let Mejia start every fifth day up here at this point. Though I thought it was a bad idea for him have been here in the first place.

    1. kingman 26

I would guess we will see him as 5th starter for probably the last few times through the rotation in September.

If he continues like this, Johan/Niese/Pelf/Dickey/Mejia could be the strength of the team in 2011, with the potential to be pretty excellent if Dickey is for real and if Pelf can just remain consistent.

      1. stickguy

I would still prefer they get a solid vet type (not expecitng an ace, but a De la Rosa type maybe) to solidify the rotation. Let mejia start in the minors, and be ready when they (inevitably) need him.

I really do not want to go into ST with only 5 viable SPs, with him being 1 of them.

don’t forget, he is still going to be 21, coming off a relatively low innings year, and I worry he will not be ready to handle the load out of the gate.

        1. wannybackstra

          agreed.

          1. metsfan4decades

Agree also. Right now, we have very little depth down there…
Another solid SP vet t ype, as stick says, is a must, IMO.

      2. oleosmirf

that rotation is a little too much operation hope and pray. any drop off by Niese and Dickey puts us in a bad situation.

I would rather have Mejia go to AAA to start the season and have a mid rotation guy brought in on a 1 year deal. im not comfortable going into next season banking on Niese and Dickey…

    Per Adam Rubin

“Organization sources tell ESPNNewYork.com that chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon is openly hostile toward Minaya during internal meetings, and that Minaya has far less security than the elder Wilpon appeared to imply.”

“Fans fault ownership for not eating the contracts and jettisoning at least Perez, but ownership has a different take. According to sources, the Wilpons blame Minaya for being too friendly with Perez, and failing to forcefully convince the southpaw to go to the minors. (Perez has veto power over any attempted demotion.) He did make four rehab starts in the minors while on the disabled list, but he has never formally accepted a trip to the farm and returned without his pitching issues having been remedied.”

So Adam Rubin is in the room while this is happening ? I think that the atory might not be fabricated but overblown

      1. Mr North Jersey

You must of missed the 1st 4 words following “per Adam Rubin” from Metro’s comment.

        “Organization sources tell ESPNNewYork.com”

Obviously he was not in the room.

Now the accuracy of the organization sources is highly suspect that I can agree.

        1. rustyjr

Your sarcasm meter must be broken

          1. Mr North Jersey

No not broken just wanted to be sarcastic also.

        2. njstuckintx

Does a Met’s Magic 8 Ball count as organization sources? “Sources say outlook not good”.

    2. rustyjr

I checked his blog & I don’t see this story

    3. kingman 26

LOL! Rubin’s ENTIRE 3-part sour grapes/axe-to-grind hatchet piece is rehashing old stories form other sources.

I wonder if either he OR Heyman have gotten up from their desk in the last month.

Rubin’s “sources” mean MAYBE 1% more than what we all say on here. Maybe.

I am with you Rusty. Rubin fits in perfectly with the Heyman/Olney/Rosenthal/Klapisch crowd of nonsense and mediocrity.

And yeah, Lee is on the Yanks, Molina is a Met, and FMart was traded to the Mariners.

      1. GravediggerHebner

In their defense Lee will be on the Yanks they were just off by a year. ;-)

        1. kingman 26

          Haha, good point!

      2. wannybackstra

So every time Rubin, whose job it is to write about the Mets, writes something negative about the front office or about Omar it will be because of his “axe to grind?”

Doesn’t it seem perfectly sensible that Omar’s bosses would be disappointed with the work he’s done?

        1. Ceetar

Pretty much. That’s what happens when you do the things you do. tough luck on his part, but I’m sure he’ll get that baseball job soon enough and it’ll be a moot point. I generally don’t read his stuff anyway, haven’t found it worth it.

          1. Mr North Jersey

LoL I am sure that is what Rubin is doing sitting their grinding his axe at how he can make things up to hurt the Mets for not giving him a baseball job.

Fans will speculate whenever a report comes out that is anti their team if their is an agenda or not. It comes with the territory.

            No biggie

          2. wannybackstra

If Rubin does have an axe to grind it would be understandable given the way our marble mouth GM tried to deflect the attention away from his buddy’s misdeeds by questioning the reporter’s motives – even though the reporter was telling the truth.

          3. kingman 26

Right Mr N, I am sure his Met experience has nothing to do with his writing a huge 3-part series doing nothing but rehashing again the Mets’ problems this year.

Nothing to do with it at all.

No axe to grind, no conflict of interest, just “journalism” at its best.

            LOL is right!

          4. wannybackstra

It’s his friggin job to write about the Mets!!!!!!

          5. Mr North Jersey

Yup I can understand why you disagree with me and that is fine King.

          6. kingman 26

Why exactly do I disagree with you?

          7. Mr North Jersey

I believe it is the whole axe to grind concept King.

          8. kingman 26

Well, Mr N, once again I am also glad we can now respectfully disagree.

            Sure, I could be wrong.

          9. wannybackstra

Well since his article about Tony Bernazard was revealed to be true and accurate I have a hard time believing it was written, and anything else has been written, out of pure spite. Anyone would have written that story if they had the goods.

And I’m not surprised you haven’t read his stuff. There’s been nothing positive for him to write about — just the reality of another embarrassing season.

        2. kingman 26

“So every time Rubin, whose job it is to write about the Mets, writes something negative about the front office or about Omar it will be because of his “axe to grind?””

When it is a series of stories with zero new info and zero insight just spending literally three days summarizing negative things about the Mets, making suggestions he thought up, and and citing “sources” to say Jeff is mad at Omar?

          Absolutely and positively.

          1. wannybackstra

Isn’t it his job to write about the Mets?

Do you see a whole lot of positives to write about this season as a whole?

Do you think the editors of both ESPN and the Daily News are complicit in allowing him to write stories to further his own personal agenda?

With all due respect, I think your position on this is ridiculous. You and I are permitted to write negative things about the Mets but this reporter is not?

          2. kingman 26

Well Wanny, with all due respect right back to you sir, I think that the idea that Rubin would not be extra motivated to publish anti-Omar material, and the idea that he would not be above publishing outright speculation by a very low-level Met employee, is absolutely ridiculous.

And when you and I write things, a handful of people see them; they are not disseminated by one of the planet’s largest media conglomerates.

OK, I have to go, and let’s all agree to disagree.

          3. Mr North Jersey

Its a great thing to live in a country where we are all entitled to our opinion. It makes it easy to say,

“While I can understand your reasoning behind your comments I do not share them”

          4. oleosmirf

he is 100% trying to get Omar get fired, its very very clear, however, Omar DESERVES to be fired. no matter what angle you take, he has done a poor job as GM and should not be here for his 7th season.

the media has the kind of power to sway public opinion and influence management so Rubin is doing what he can to replace someone who is doing a pretty bad job.

      3. oleosmirf

the Mariners were about to trade Lee to the Yankees but the Rangers made a last second bid and got him. Yankees thought it was done and they were extremely pissed…

    4. Dirtysanchez

Who cares how friendly omar is toward perez, take the bull by its horns and fire perez. If omar wont do it than let someone else step up to do it. THATS why fans fault ownership. If its omar’s call then someone has to veto his a$$ and take perez out

      1. metsfan4decades

Agree. If the Wilpons are Omar’s boss, which they obviously are…and they don’t like the handling of Perez by Omar, is THEIR plan to then just wait until the end of the season to clean house?

While I’m anxiously awaiting said house cleaning….I have to wonder, if Ruben’s gossip is true…just why they didn’t start this house cleaning sooner.

For the record…nothing Ruben has been reporting is any new news, so to speak. The other beat writers and analysts don’t differ greatly from his opinions. IMO though, Rubin’s tone is just over the line, almost anger, like he does have an axe to grind and is enjoying each and every moment of grinding that axe.

  4. GravediggerHebner

I hope Duda comes up in September just so we can sing Camptown Ladies in Blazing Saddles style.

    1. rustyjr

Lol no stop jumping up & down like Kansas City faggots !

      1. kingman 26

Can we have some more beans Mr Taggert?

        1. rustyjr

I think you boys have had enough

For those optimists out there, here’s an article from ESPN Insider and a snippet regarding the manager:

    http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/columns/story?columnist=meyers_matt&id=5492065

    5. Jerry Manuel will probably be gone
The Mets manager seems like a nice guy, but the club is out-managed in pretty much every close game. While not a perfect measurement, a good way of judging a manager’s tactical skill is to look at his record in one-run games. This year, the Mets are 17-25 in such contests, while every first-place team in baseball is at least .500. (The Mets were 19-24 in one-run games last year.)

While a strong bullpen and a little luck are also factors, anyone who has ever watched a close Mets game can see that Manuel is not exactly a whiz when it comes to playing matchups. For example, he’s allowed left-hander Pedro Feliciano to face more righties than lefties this year, even though it’s abundantly clear that Feliciano should be strictly a lefty specialist (righties have a .938 OPS against him this year). A good manager is worth two to three wins per year, and bad one can easily cost you that many.

Manuel has a club option for next year, and it’s unlikely he will return. For the sake of the Mets, that’s probably a good thing, and one of the five reasons they might actually compete in 2011. However, that doesn’t mean they aren’t a flawed organization. Even with these five points of optimism, don’t be fooled, they still are.

  6. oleosmirf

I dont understand what all the fuss is about. Rubin is right on the money with his Meet the Mess series. Sure, Rubin has an axe to grind with Minaya but his criticisms of the team are 100% accurate.

Sure he doesn’t praise Omar for signing Takahashi and Dickey but you should not go into the season with RA Dickey as your backup plan. Even though it worked out, it was terrible logic and terrible decision making. Going into the season with maine, ollie and pelfrey coming off bad/injured seasons and Niese as the 5th starter is just bad planning.

    1. metsfan4decades

Sure…nothing Rubin is reporting is any different than any other beat writer is reporting and most is already realized by even the casual Met fan.

But dang….the Title alone is just snarky….
