Dear NY Met Beat Guys/Gals,
For all you media types that make a living following and reporting on the Mets day to day. As a Mets fan I have read many stories regarding Oliver Perez lately and far be it from me to tell you how to do your job but of all the questions I see asked there is one question that for the life of me I don’t understand why it has yet to be asked. So I will put it out there and hope someone with more influence than I can somehow find that one person in the media that will step up and ask the following question.
(This question is for Jerry Manuel, Omar Minaya and Jeff Wilpon)
1. How do you justify having Oliver Perez earning $12M this season on the 25 man roster since July 21st and only having used him all of 3 times for a total of 4.1 innings the latest outing coming August 1st and on top of that still say you are trying to win games with what basically is a 24 man roster?
I apologize if this question has already been asked and I would appreciate being pointed to where I can read the reply because I am just dying to know the answer to this question.

There goes all of Rusty’s butt-kissing of the beat writers via Twitter out the window.

it seems to me that the first priority of the beat writers/wannabes is keeping their place at the trough. Therefore, they often don’t ask the hard questions (that people really want to know the answer to), in fear of getting blackballed, or bumped down the pecking order.
but you are correct, it is a logical question.

Seriously if I may I think this is a great question. I know you (Mr. NJ) read, watch & listen to a lot more of the local media than I do but I can say in what I’ve read/seen/heard no one has broached this topic quite this way so if you haven’t seen it either then it probably hasn’t happened.
I can only guess but I imagine there is a fine line that has to be straddled between getting to the crux of things while maintaining some civility in a two-way relationship between media and “story.”

I myself would like to know the answer to that question. It’s as if Ollie is flying under the radar and no one knows why…..

well, I can guess why.
Mets figure to get some more value out of him, but it can’t happen until the off season. So, they decided putting him in th epen was the safest option. Not sure if it is all Jerry about not using him at all though.
Probably the arrangement agreed to by boras, ollie and Omar, and why he has been so quiet all this time.

Well, the answer almost certainly is that the Wilpons refuse to eat the contract and Ollie won’t go to the minors.
