Post Game: R.A. D.I.Y.

Dickey's favorite channel

New York Mets starting pitcher R.A. Dickey (9-5) had a Do It Yourself kind of day today in a Citi Field Turf War versus the visiting Houston Astros.  The Mets season might qualify for Desperate Landscapes but Dickey put in some Sweat Equity on this 90+ degree day by not only throwing 109 pitches over 7+ innings, allowing only 1 run on 6 hits, but he also drove in the 1st 2 runs of the game with a 2nd inning single.  David Wright had led the inning off by drawing  a walk off of Astros starter Bud Norris (6-8) and Ike Davis doubled moving him to 3rd base.  After Josh Thole walked to load the bases the newest BATHtastic! Met Luis Hernandez struck out swinging bringing Dickey to the plate.  He lined a shot to shallow center to bring home Wright and a chugging Davis to make it 2-0 Mets.  Thole moved to 3rd base on the play from where he scored on an Angel Pagan ground out to make it 3-0 while Dickey moved to 2nd base.  Luis Castillo then singled driving in Dickey and the Mets had built a Blog Cabin with a 4-0 lead after 2 innings.

Someone enjoyed the game in their Mets Man Cave

The Astros got their only run in the top of the 3rd when Jason Castro, who had doubled leading off, scored on a single by Michael Bourn.  That was all the Astros would muster off of Dickey and relievers Bobby Parnell and Hisanori Takahashi who used their Cool Tools to finish up when Dickey tired in the 8th.  The Mets added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th when Thole auditioned for Yard Crashers by homering to right off the Pepsi Porch facade, his 2nd of the season.  The Whole Picture is such that the Mets are not likely to be involved in the post season in 2010 but at least for one sunny August afternoon we got a glimpse of the Under Construction 2011 Mets that gives us hope as fans.  Final score New York 5, Houston 1.

Ha! Good luck with that. Gotta find a home with a basement…

LoL sounds like Richard Neer didn’t see the results of today’s Toyota text poll and will do his own poll to get the pulse of Mets fans. If you wanna have your voice heard then listen up to WFAN and give them a call.

“Wisdom sometimes trumps being competitive.” – R.A. Dickey on coming out of the game. “It’s a lesson I’ve learned all too well.”

      LOL, Jerry and Wisdom.

I usually always stick around for the post game show, but when RA Dickey was on the mound, I make sure I stop everything to listen to his interview. As Carlin said ‘the always entertaining RA Dickey interviews’

Anyone notice how his interviews are now just as long as any other Met?

Also can we please shut Jose down? What is the point of seeing if he can maybe go? Shut him down for at least 2 weeks and see how he feels.

too logical for the met FO. And jerry of course.

Besides, don’t you realize they are still in the race, just a little run away from the playoffs?

I was kind of pissed when Jerry pulled Dickey after he gave up that lead off single to start the 8th. But after listening to Dickey’s post game interview, I now realize that was more him being honest with Jerry that he just might be out of gas after running the bases.

Dickey’s priority, so he says…is to establish communication with his managers and coaches so they can trust him when he responds to how he’s feeling on any given day, in any given inning. He believes honest communication is for the betterment of him and the team all the way around.
I wonder if that was a thinly veiled message to his teammates that it would be better if the rest always strived to do the same.

You bring up a very interesting point I hadn’t looked at it that way.

I see Nats resigned Livan for 2011. Did we have a Livan vs Dickey matchup this year? If not i’d like to see one.

I want to see who throws the slowest pitch.

      livan, for sure.

playing the braves gives me mixed emotions. Yes, I want to see the mets win.

but, I also want to get to the officially out of it part (even though I have given up on getting rid of jerry this season) so they can hopefully start using prospects (like Duda), and stop with the Frenchy, etc. nonsense.

That, and if we beat the braves, it helps the phils, and I want the phils missing the playoffs so bad I can taste it.

i just have a hard time rootin for Mets to lose. I understand though your desire to not want the phils to get an edge and to just be at a point where you can see prospects but to do so by wanting the mets to lose is just not worth it.

      1. stickguy

I didn’t say I wanted them to lose, and I would never root for that.

Just that winning has a negative side associated with it too!

        1. Mr North Jersey

          Gotcha.

    2. Mr North Jersey

We are at a shitty spot hey stick?

Stuck in limbo neither here nor there.

the definition of a .500 team.

not really good, but not really bad. Just, there.
