Why Does This Sound Familiar?

Anthony DiComo of MLB writes, Manager Jerry Manuel says the Mets have talked to Ike Davis about toning down his arguments with umpires.

Ike’s reply? No such conversation took place.

Why does this sound so familiar?

Ike and Pagan have started whining at every at bat while their stats continue to sink.

As Ojeda is stating loudly, this team is an embarrassing and apathetic bunch.

The sense of entitlement, the slack apathy, and the damn whining at umps is making it harder and harder to watch this really pathetic team.

knog, do yourself a favor, and take a month long vacation. Get your mind clear, and come back revitalized for what should be a wild and crazy off season.

      at least, it better be!

Yeah, I should stop watching, but it is a sad addiction.

It will get infinitely better soon, when they admit they are out of it, and we see more kids playing.

oh, and for whatever part of your list is accurate, I blame Jerry. and Omar, for allowing Jerry to still be in position to be allowing it to happen.

      got that?

      1. kingman 26

Yeah, but they cannot be blamed for everything. They just cannot.

Ike cannot hit, and it is clearly the umps’ fault for calling all those pesky strikes!

Ike is holding his own, for a 23 YO with barely 2 years of pro ball under his belt.

if anything, blame the FO for not giving him another 300-400 AAA abs to really get ready.

at this point, I am focusing on what I expect out of guys next year. Ike, I expect more. Frenchy, I expect to be gone.

A conversation about a non conversation… Gotta love this team.

And I thought a dichotomy was an Italian sports car.

almost september. so, only a short month until the season is done, and the Mets can get on with the important business of retooling the FO and getting a new coaching staff in place.

and hopefully, it comes along with a new attitude and focus, top to bottom.

None of which will matter a whit without significant changes to every element of the roster, with the possible exception of the rotation.

Elaborate on these extensive changes you talk about. I can’t see where a major retooling/rebuilding/whateverthehell you wanna call it is actually in order. (yes, FO changes are a must, but after that, I don’t see much that can be done or really needs to be done).

          I will try!

let’s see, frenchy non-tendered. maine gone. normal turn over in the pen (valdes, dessens gone, everyone else in play.)

big moves: Ollie and Slappy removed somehow. anyway possible.

new 2B, on a ST deal. Hudson, Uribe, someone like that.

normal bench turnover. maybe Turner for the Bu MI?

Add a solid, vet, reliable SP type on a ST deal. Someone in the lilly range.

there will be plenty of changes. at least 1/3 of the current roster at least will be gone. Maybe not all the players you are hoping for, but lots of guys.

and you might be surprised by how much a few key additions, along with a new leadership team, can revitalize the remaining talent (even the recently underachieving guys).

but you also make a key point. for a change, major overhaul to the rotation is not high on the to-do list, and that is something Omar and the FO have not shown a particular talent for.
