So long Jeff. I didn’t hate you like so many others but I did find you disappointing on the field and then when you got benched I found you disappointing off of it too.
Go have fun in Texas in your ideal role – playing part time mostly against LH pitchers and as a defensive replacement.
I know very little about Joaquin Arias the middle infielder allegedly coming our way but from a glance at his stats he had better be a stellar defensive player because he is not a hitter – 242 MLB plate appearances .701 OPS, & in almost 4,000 minor league plate appearances it’s .695.

I did not hate him, but to me, his reaction to being platooned with FMart was the 100% ideal symbol of much of this team’s attitude about almost everything.
Accept it, work harder to improve, and take one for the team?
Hell no; stiffen your back, defend your mediocrity, and demand to play or be traded. That’s the 2009-2010 NY Met way.
Unfortunately. Let the housecleaning begin!

So last week the Rangers DFA’d Joaquin Arias to make room for Alex Cora.
Then they traded him to the Mets for Jeff Francoeur and cash.
So it could be said that roughly the Mets traded Jeff Francoeur, Alex Cora and cash for Joaquin Arias. No pressure Joaquin.

If only that deal could have included Ollie, Slappy, Misch, and Hessman…

Oops, forgot that we can include non-players in trades!
Not too late to throw them in too!

I just saw this on MLBTR. Why are we sending Francoeur AND paying most of his salary?
I don’t get it….not like J. Arias is any kind of sure prospect.

most likely to balance out the money? making this either just a move to get rid of francouer,
or, they though it looked better to get some MiL filler out of the deal.
It’s omar and the gang, so who knows.

I agree I think they just wanted to get rid of him.
I don’t see how Arias is of any particular use to the Mets going forward I believe he’s out of options. I’ll be surprised if he’s in the organization in 2011 because I assume they will have to DFA him (since no options) unless they consider him a stone cold lock as their utility guy.

Oh, you’ve got a point about a utility player. Omar probably being Omar again and trying to find lightening in a bottle for next year.
Or the Wilpons already laying down the law with money next year and Omar knows he’s not going to get much to spend.
Gonna have to go with youth and cheap type signings for the most part in ’11, I’m guessing, until some money comes off the books like Beltran, Perez and possibly KRod.

If what you write about ‘11 comes to pass then it appears that those of us living on L.I. will have to invest in the MLB Extra Innings package to see meaningful games.

I’m with grave…I wasn’t among those that hated Jeff either. I was hoping maybe we got lucky and Francoeur would figure it out this year. Sadly, that wasn’t to be. Don’t know if it ever will.
So good luck to you in TX.
I think someone in the dugout looked at stats and Arias didn’t look all that good as a defensive player either. Oh, well…

I see “Duda & Mejia promoted” as our most recent item on the spyder as of 10:20pm. That went up there simultaneously with my post game but the promotion post has top billing. The only thing I don’t see yet is the Francoeur item.

Oh sorry I just re-read and see you referred to “tweet” specifically. Yes I noticed on my twitter feed (because of course I follow realdirty) that none of our posts showed up tonight.
Could be tech issues at their end I’ve had multiple encounters with “twitter over capacity” fail whale in the last 30 mins or so.

I do have to ask, if this dude was DFA’d for Cora and cleared waivers (he was minor league and on the 40 man I think) can’t he just be placed in AAA regardless of his options?

you would think so, but given the rosters have expanded, I assume he will be up with the mets for a look?
