Dan Martin of the NY Post did an interview the Brooklyn Cyclones manager Wally Backman where he discusses the Mets and his future aspirations.

That’s like saying my kitchen table is made out of wood.
Dan: “Are you ready to manage a major league team?”
Wally: “I’m close, but not ready yet. Maybe one day.”
What the heck were they expecting him to say?
Wow! You OK today Tx?
You are though correct that is exactly what he is supposed to say. My intent was to use it as a headline to draw people to see what else he said on the subject “not” that him saying it was the headline itself.
Well that’s sensationalist journalism for you
I feel like i did something wrong now.
No no, it’s all good.
No I was talking about the post
I’m ok. Combination of bored, fed up with the Mets and the now close proximity of Frenchy. viva la FREEDOM Fries! take that frenchy.
Also, interviews like this are just filler in my opinion. This just in! The sun shall rise from the east!
Understood. but for me I felt the article had some relevant material so I added it for people to read that may not be aware of it and may find something of interest from it also.
You are OK in my book.
Goes without saying almost that I appreciate each and every post you authors put up here.
Do you know how great it is to come here and see just about all there is to catch up on, on any given day…without having to go search all Mets websites out there?
Keep up the great work guys! And the sense of humor you all have. I think we’re all going to need it..
Wally is going to call up Dan Martin tomorrow and say “OK today’s the day. I’m ready.”
Welp the real question is are the wilpons ready for wally to manage the mets…to be honest I really dont think its out of the realm of possibility at this point.
Our main man and lover of all things Intern (S. Phillips) said he would bet that Bobby V was the manager next year. So we know that ain’t happening.
I am starting to warm up to Wally. Maybe it is just the “opposite of Jerry” aspect, but what the hell, he is worth a try. Never say never, but it would be really hard for him to be any worse.
and yes, I think the Wilpons are ready for him. I do believe that they brought him to Brooklyn as an audition, and if they were never willing to consider him for the big club, he would never have been brought back into the system.
I am also thinking that this year finally serves as the wake up call for the Wilpons that some fundemental changes need to be made with how the club operates, and who is making decisions. Last year might have deluded them into thinking it was not systemic, but this year, and the resulting negative/embarrassing press, could easily finally get them off their arses to make the needed changes.
I could not agree more with your last paragraph.
Injuries aside – because you can’t predict those – even the greatest of talents will often fail or not perform well in a poor environment. And what we have here with the NY Mets is a very poor environment – from top to bottom.
The Wilpons are not selling the team but every other aspect needs going over with a fine tooth comb. From scouting to player development to drafting to injury handling to the coaching staff and last but certainly not least, the GM.
you have it in the wrong order. Basically, the GM is repsonsible for all of those other aspects!
