MLB is now Stokes & Matthews Jr. free, earth continues to spin

Aggregator par excellence MLBTR notes the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim via California near the Pacific have released pitcher and former Met Brian StokesBilly Wagner might utter his infamous sarcasm-laden “effin shocker” were he to be asked for a reaction quote.  Stokes threw 16 2/3 innings for Los Angeles this season with a 2.520 WHIP and an 8.10 ERA.

Stokes walks a guy

To me it’s funny how much can change in one baseball season.  When the Stokes for Gary Matthews Jr. deal went down in January our initial post on it elicited over 400 emotionally charged comments as well as strong reactions from around the blogoshpere.  Today, we barely noticed that the second shoe has dropped and both gentlemen are no longer employed in major league baseball.

Matthews Jr. strikes out

I wonder what seemingly benign Mets transaction this off season will send us into a frenzied comment war.  Whatever it is I already look forward to it.  It will be more interesting and exciting than much of the actual 2010 Mets season.

Folks went bonkers that day. I imagine it will be another frustrating and emotional off-season. I don’t think I will have the energy to get mad unless they screw up 2012′s payroll with crap moves.

They did the same, to a lesser extent for RA Dickey. That one turned out ok.

I hope the experiment of trying to catch lightening in a bottle with players who have not lived up to any kind of expections to fill holes is one road they won’t go down this off season.

Depends on what holes they are filling. If they are filler then it’s ok to fill them with filler. LOL.

Example Dickey, Taka, etc. But for sure you can’t go around plugging opening day starters with these kind of players.

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of GMJ as our starting CF (which is just crazy thinking about this now since we have Pagan) and Jacobs as our opening day 1st baseman.
