For all the wally worshipers, he even pulled a Jerry last night.
tie game (at home), going into the top of the 9th. But, Wally goes to a middle releiver of some sort (not sure if it was a guy considered the set up man), instead of his closer. Said MR prompltly gives up a run, but thankfully the Clones tie it back up in the bottom of the 9th.
Didn’t Jerry get roasted for doing that same move?
Bad Omen of things to come if he gets job as Mets manager?
Any chance at all that SNY is rushing a truck and crew over to MCU Park to broadcast this deciding game?
That would require exceptional thinking. Considering how few good shows the network has produced thus far I am inclined to think they don’t have people that fit the description.
Just looked at tonight’s lineup over at SNY. Tonight we will get,
6:00 PM Loud Mouths
6:30 PM Shea Goodbye: 45 Years of Amazin
8:00 PM Mets Classics 1986 NLDS

other than being able to watch the games, I have no desire to actually get SNY at my house.
LoL Grave, saw that you tweeted SNY Requesting they broadcast 2nite’s game. Don’t know if your request will fall on deaf ears or not but I give you an A for at least trying.
Speaking of A’s don’t know if your aware of this but in the MT Olive school district they removed the grade D so a 69 now is no longer a passing grade.
If this catches on I fear kids will burn report cards in protest.
well, if it is like most other districts, parents will just make a big stink, and the school will change the kids grades to placate them.
LoL your probably right.
We down in the south must be much tougher on our kids. 70 is passing.
A 100-93
B 92-85
C 84-77
D 76-70
F you stink.
Boy how things have changed.
Back in my day 70 and above was passing.
69 was a big, fat ‘F’.
Did anyone catch Mets Gazzette 5 step plan at winning in 2011?
http://www.metsgazette.com/2010/09/five-step-plan-for-success-in-2011.html?spref=tw
1. Shed Castillo & Perez’ Contract
2. Upgrade Pitching: Strengthen Bullpen, Add #2 Starter
3. Start Angel Pagan In Right Field
4. Platoon Ruben Tejada & Daniel Murphy At Second Base
5. Keep Beltran For the Final Year Of His Contract
interesting. I saw that on spyder, but forgot to read it.
#1 is obvious. Actually, it should be 6 items, with #1 being reassign Omar and replace the entire coaching staff and manager. maybe that was too obvious?
#2, can’t argue, but I think the SP added will be more of a #3, but maybe one with legs to do better?
#3 and #5 seem to be part of the same idea, but I see this happening anyway. I would like to add my famous (well, to me) 4 starting OF plan, with Duda being the 4th guy (my flavor of the month).
#4 is a bit of a stretch. I am actually thinking that Murphy could get a look, if he plays OK in the fall/winter (whereever he is going to play). Tejada, still think he needs to go down until he can hit.
I vote for a 1 year deal on a vet (hudson, uribe) to tied them over. If that doesn’t happen, then 2B should be an open competition in ST. Let murphy, arias, turner, tejada, heck, Havens fight over it, and let the better man win.
but with all these iffy options, I can fully support the idea of a platoon.
I am rooting for Havens to hopefully have a big impact for us at 2nd next season.
#1 should be the obvious.
Haven’t read it but my own impression is that is basically the plan anyway minus “add # 2 starter,” minus the “Daniel Murphy” portion of the 2B group, and perhaps minus “keep Beltran” depending on if Wilpon was truly angered about yesterday.
I do foresee the team shedding the Castillo & Perez contracts although I think the latter may not happen until mid-to-late spring training thus allowing for remarkable resurgence while still here.
I suppose I can’t dismiss the Murphy possibility but at best he’s one of many in a mix including Turner, Hernandez, Tejada, as-yet-to-be-identified cheap uninspiring FA.
I think the bulk of the moves the team will make this off season will be in the bullpen if only out of necessity.
No idea what to expect from KRod, might be let go pending hearing, might still be injured, and so on.
Pedro Feliciano is a free agent could easily see him elsewhere. Same with Takahashi.
I don’t expect Dessens back. I hope they’ll non-tender Green.
About the only guy I feel sure will be back in the pen is Parnell.
Whoops forgot to elaborate on the starting pitcher thing. I think they will add one or more but they will be more of the # 6, 7, 8 variety than a bona fide 2 or 3 IMO.
I don’t agree with this but believe the organization already has penciled in Santana, Pelfrey, Dickey, Niese, Mejia as the rotation and anyone added will be cheap back up plans in case something fails with these guys (no offense intended to any of them but something certainly will go wrong it just does with pitchers).
I am not sold on them being sold on Mejia yet. I could see a guy that has 4-5 ability being brought in for sure. I still think they will spend money this off-season and the most logical place is SP.
I think 4th OF will have to be someone much better than Duda, someone who can start. With Beltran and Bay as two of the 3 you have to get a viable LF/RF guy instead of a rookie.
well, maybe you get Martinez instead!
I understand your logic, but I also think that it is the perfect time to break in a rookie. You can break them in a little bit slower than if you just give them the job and have them sink or swim. But, they still get way more PT than if they are just a bench guy.
Well Francesa says that “they’re not the only guys on the list but they’re the main guys on the list” about Bobby Valentine and Wally Backman for 2011 Mets manager.
So let me be the 1st to introduce you to your 2011 Mets manager: Wally Backman.
No way they pay Bobby V.’s rate. And I don’t mean to imply or suggest that makes them cheap or broke, I just don’t believe they are interested in paying top dollar for a manager.
