Remains one of my favorite Met games of all times.
Only fitting that the Mets would win over the Braves, taking the lead on a Piazza HR at home in Shea, with the many of NY’s finest in attendance, with a packed house, all the fans and all the flags.
Liza Minnelli singing ‘NY, NY’ was just what the doctor ordered along with Piazza’s HR.

I heard that in post WWII Britain the old cockneys spoke of the “good old days of the blitz.” Under seige, they forgot their differences.
Now, ten years later I can say that in September of 2001 I was a New York fan, not just a Red Sox fan. We were all just Americans.
