Post Game: Guess Which New York Pro Sports Team Won Tonight?

Nope.  No, not them either.  It was your New York Mets.  The Yankees fell in extra innings to the Tampa Bay Rays and the Jets offense failed to show up for their game at New Giants Stadium (yeah I said it) against the Baltimore Ravens.  The Mets went into extra innings versus the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates scoreless and were seemingly in a battle with their former stadium mates the Jets for most inept offense. But once the two players I specifically complained about starting tonight’s game for the Mets were replaced the offense kicked in.  Ruben Tejada, in for Lucas Duda, the first offending player, as part of a double switch, led off the bottom of the 10th with a double.  Then Nick Evans, pinch-hitting for Hisanori Takahashi who had been inserted earlier as part of a double switch that removed the second offending player Luis Hernandez, singled to drive in Tejada with the winning run.  Memo to Jerry Manuel:  Tejada and Evans should be playing more than you’re playing them.  Final score New York Mets 1, Pittsburgh Pirates 0.

Amazin how such a great accomplishment by the pitching staff doesn’t have the umph you would expect by such a stat.

While this would be wonderful information in most circumstances, as a Mets fan I hear it and think “OK so the organization will determine that their starting pitching is excellent and do nothing to augment it so next year when one or more of these guys underachieves (or even just achieves as opposed to overachieves) the pitching won’t be good enough.”

Heck I am worried they will say they are planning for Santana to be back in 2010 and won’t look to add pitching using the argument that adding a Santana at the trade deadline is better than any pitcher they sign before then.

he can be the risk/reward injury rehab singing then if they can’t get Webb.

They needed to sign a solid SP before he went down.

and if someone told you about 19 SOs and 4 SPs with ERAs in the mid 3s or lower (2 in the 2′s), I expect you would think the mets were fighting for the playoffs, not to get back to .500!

I know! I know! The Mets!

Jeeze…I didn’t think we’d ever get a run – against the team with the highest ERA in the league.

Good for Tejada and Evans. Jerry said he’ll be playing Tejada and Evans tomorrow, of course.

Gee looking good tonight even w/o his best stuff.

In other news, Johan’s got his second opinion, doctor concurs, he’ll be having surgery tomorrow.
And KRod will be back in court tomorrow.

What number on the dial is Court TV on?

        LoL I said dial.

mets really should consider shutting Gee down soon, if they expect to have him around next year. Innings getting up there.

Will be interesting to see what happens with K Rod. I hope they just settle it quick and reasonable. Lose this years salary, and come back strong next year.

I would love to see the option year removed, but I doubt it will be. So, next manager will just have to monitor games finished!

jerry still seems to hate evans.

although after today, he may get some starts!

How has Jerry’s postgames been as of late?

    1. Mr North Jersey

      Does he still laugh?

      1. metsfan4decades

Rarely anymore. Occasionally there’s a joke in there and you get a little chuckle but as Grave said, morose. There is no mistaking he knows his time is short.

I will give him credit. He still answers all questions about each player and they are well thought out answers, not just someone going through the motions. It’s just it’s well thought out in typical Jerry fashion.

      Morose.

ask MF. I have never seen one, unless someone posts a clip the next day. Out of market you don’t get this kind of stuff.
