Have to wonder why the Cubs DO want to interview him with much more juicy names out there in Sandberg and Valentine.

Money? Maybe they think Melvin is competent AND will come cheaper.
The Cubs have lots of $$ tied up into poor contracts, from what I’ve been reading.

My totally wild guess is they want him as a potential bench coach with Sandberg, who has no MLB experience, as manager.
