Post Game: Yo Ho Yo Ho a Pirate’s life for me

"I'm a corporate logo!"

We pillage and plunder we rifle and loot, drink up me ‘earties yo ho. The Pittsburgh Pirates saw the New York Mets starter leave the game in the 3rd inning with an injury then scored 4 quick runs off his replacement to take a 5-0 lead and still lost.  Down by 5 in the bottom of the 4th the Mets sent 13 batters to the plate to score 7 runs for the 7-5 lead.  Jose Reyes added a solo homer in the 6th for what proved to be a necessary insurance run when the Pirates got single runs in the 8th and 9th innings for the final score of New York Mets 8, Pittsburgh Pirates 7.

Keith sat next to her in the stands

We kidnap and ravage and don’t give a hoot, drink up me ‘earties yo ho. The Mets put those 7 runs on the board in the 4th this way.  With 1 out Carlos Beltran then David Wright both singled.  Ike Davis then doubled to drive in Beltran and put runners on 2nd and 3rd.  Nick Evans walked to load the bases.  Mike Hessman pinch-hit for catcher Henry Blanco and singled driving in Wright.  Ruben Tejada then hit a grounder to 3rd but the throw to force the runner at the plate caromed off the glove of catcher Chris Snyder for an error allowing both Davis and Evans to score.  Pinch-hitter Joaquin Arias then reached on an error by shortstop Ronny Cedeno as Hessman scored to tie the game at 5 runs apiece.   1 out later Angel Pagan singled to drive in Tejada and Arias for the 7-5 lead.

nice little streak. .500 baby. and finally, the mets beat up on a bad team.

considering there record is pretty good against a bunch of good teams, it is the nats of the world killing them. what the heck, Jerry’s fault! actually, in some ways, it must be.

To continue a thought I mentioned in the dugout,, now that they are at .500, why are so many people devastated about the tragic terrible year? These are the same people saying at the beginning of the year that this was a .500 team.

so, doesn’t that mean that they met expectations?

    go ahead, flame away.

but, trying for some perspective, look at a model franchise. The Cards have the best player in BB (king albert). Arguably the best top 3 rotation. and some other fine players.

and the Mets are a whopping 2 games behind them. So, does that mean the cards are a hopeless mess for the next 3 years at least, and some kind of tragic mess that requires fans to get therapy or meds?

and with all the things that went wrong this year (including guys way below career or recent norms), and knowing we are getting new manager (and probably FO), isn’t it at least somewhat plausible that they can win 10% more games next season? Hell, just play .500 vs the nats, marlins and Astros, and they got more than that!

well, that puts them right at about 90 wins. playoff quantity.

Stick…’devastated’ can only be used to describe a family situation, didn’t ya know?

Yeah…It’s not a horrible season, just disappointing. I really thought we would compete in Sep. I thought pitching would be our downfall, not offense.

      Geez, pretty good points.

      1. stickguy

Knog, not exactly the response I was expecting, but thanks!

Mejia down with a shoulder problem…..That Joe Janish recent article on poor pitching mechanics by the likes of Mejia, Maine and NIese to name a couple is looking more and more plausible.

Jenrry having an MRI over at Hospital for Special Surgery as we speak. I think they keep a night shift on over there just for the Mets.

Most entertaining part of this game was Keith on the move. Apparently he was so disgusted with the play on the field he didn’t think he could hold his tongue much longer. So he decided to tour Citi and do a few minutes broadcast from certain vantage points. At one point he was making us dizzy handling one of the cameras for on field play – LOL.

Funnies moment was him in the highest most farthest seat up, down the LF line. Right before he headed out from there he said:

‘If I was a depressed Met fan, I could end it all right here’.

There were many funny lines and moments tonight I found myself laughing out loud often during the game but that one about the depressed Met fan was the best of them all.

The GKR SNY booth is worth the entertainment value alone.

Thank the gods for them ’cause watching some of these games the past two seasons with some dry, boring broadcasters might make me want to jump.

sometimes mechanical issues aren’t a problem because they are increasing the likelihood of injury, but (like Ollie) it makes it hard to have any consistency. That might be more about repeating mechanics, but still mechanical issues.

Something else interesting developing that hasn’t been discussed much.

Taka is now 7 for 7 in save opportunities. It’s been discussed that he doesn’t really have closer ‘stuff’. His stats so far say otherwise.

As Parnell continues to struggle in every 2nd or 3rd outing in the 8th inning role, Taka has yet to stumble in the closer role.

    1. asod75

Love what Taka has done all year, he’s done the job in just about every role you can imagine. If there’s no other option for a closer, he can fill the role but I actually like him better in a multiple-inning jack of all trades relief role, kind of like Darren Oliver filled in 2006. Regardless, he’s been a pleasant surprise, no doubt.

He gave up a run last night in a situation everyone would’ve been in fullfledged panic mode had it been Frankie.

No defined closers/saverule would be preferable.

wait, it can’t be possible that the media and blogsphere jumped all over a minor issue and tried to blow it up into a major deal, without actually doing any background research or fact checking?

My entire world view is shaken.

It’s become the ‘in’ thing to do these days by the media – bash all things NY Mets.

I was on the phone with Dad (watching the game together for a couple of innings as we do most games) when Jerry came out to lift Pelfrey. My Dad said something like ‘that’s just wrong. Back in my day no manager would let a player get away with that’. I said to him….’na, I think that’s just Pelfrey shooting the messanger there. He’s pissed at himself and it’s showing’.

After the game Bobby O said he’ll be interested to hear what Pelfrey had to say about that incident. They interviewed Pelf and it was hardly mentioned, like Pelf had no idea there was this perceived incident on the mound. That told me that was more Pelfrey pissed at himself and his outing then at anyone else on the mound at that point.

Frank Robinson would have grabbed him by the arm and spun him around but we know Jerry’s no Frank Robinson.
Another story about nothing. Season’s been over along time now and Jerry’s lost the team and his job three months ago.
What a disaster this team is!

  6. Ceetar

come on now, where’s the post so we can spend some time Jeter-bashing?

    1. metsfan4decades

      hahaha

My biggest fear? It’s going to be a Yankee/Philly rematch in the WS this year only this time the Phillies win, given the Yankees recent struggles and pitching woes.

As much as I hate the Yankees I don’t want to go through all 2011 hearing about the ’11 WS champion Phillies as we play that season.

Go Rays! Go Rockies! Go Giants! Go Padres! Go Reds! Go Rangers! Go Twins!

Go any team that can knock both Yanks and Phills out in the first round.

      1. Prismo

        Where’s the “go Atlanta”?

        1. metsfan4decades

          Oh shoot….

          Go Atlanta!

      2. Ceetar

        Yankees aren’t making it.

i would have preferred the Phillies. you’d hear about it less, andit’d be sweeter when we beat them. Amps up the rivalry.

        1. TRS86

There’s a rivalry? Doesn’t both teams have to be relevant for there to be a rivalry?

          1. Prismo

No. In fact, a true rivalry would exist regardless of each team’s standing.

You think the Yankees and Red Sox’ rivalry will be over once the Sox don’t make the playoffs this season? Or that Ohio State and Michigan don’t have one of the biggest rivalries in US sports, just because Michigan’s had a few mediocre seasons?

          2. TRS86

I guess so but I am not sure the Phillies care much about the Mets right now.

          3. stickguy

I don’t think it is the players, but some fans still won’t let it go.

Funny, but after a “perfect storm’ of (essentially) good fortune of about 4 years, and everyone seems to forget the first 100 years of suckitude, with only a few very brief, 1-3 year periods of relevance. Even Knog seesm to have pencilled them in as a 20 year dynasty now.

a couple of key injuries and guys playing like their ages, and they will fall off the map again for the rest of our lifetimes!

        2. GravediggerHebner

When exactly did this awesome rivalry between the Mets and Phillies start, 2007?
