I can’t even allow myself to think about how impotent these Mets showed themselves to be last night. There is not enough prescription erectile dysfunction medicine in all the pharmacies of Queens to get these flaccid Mets excited. Priapism is not a worry for these Mets. So to take my mind off of that particular troubling aspect of my favorite sports team I decided instead to take a closer look at another one: the Mets record when allowing 3 runs. Last night the Mets lost to the Phillies 3-2 and I became curious about their won-lost record and how it compared to other National League teams in games in which they allowed 3 runs. Here is what I found:
- The Mets are 6-11, .353 when they allow 3 runs. Overall they are 74-79, .484.
Due to the annoying presence of the Designated Hitter I am not going to bother comparing the Mets to the entire Major Leagues but here are the records of all the National League teams in alphabetical order, when they allow 3 runs and overall:
- Astros 16-6, .727; 74-80, .481
- Braves 24-12, .667; 86-68, .558
- Brewers 16-3, .842; 72-81, .471
- Cardinals 16-7, .696; 79-74, .516
- Cubs 14-14, .500; 69-84, .451
- Diamondbacks 9-13, .409; 62-92, .403
- Dodgers 15-7, .682; 75-79, .487
- Giants 10-11, .476; 87-67, .565
- Marlins 6-5, .545; 76-77, .497
- Nationals 15-7, .682; 66-88, .429
- Padres 11-6, .647; 86-67, .562
- Phillies 9-6, .600; 93-61, .604
- Pirates 12-7, .632; 53-100, .346
- Reds 11-9, .550; 86-68 .558
- Rockies 18-5, .783; 82-71, .536
Other than the Mets only 2 NL teams have a losing record when allowing 3 runs – the Diamondbacks and the Giants. The Diamondbacks however do have a superior winning percentage when allowing 3 runs than their overall winning percentage by .006 while the Mets winning percentage when allowing 3 runs is actually .131 worse than overall.
The Cubs are .500 when allowing 3 runs but that is .049 better than overall.
Like the Mets the Giants, Phillies and Reds have a worse winning percentage when allowing 3 runs than overall but the Mets .131 gap is the greatest. The Giants are worse by .089, the Phillies by .004 while the Reds are .008 worse.
Even the lowly, laughable Pirates, the franchise many Mets fans look down at while saying to themselves “at least we’re not the Pirates” have managed a .632 winning percentage when allowing 3 runs.
When the 2010 Mets allow 3 runs you can see their demise coming. They can try and cheat death but it will eventually catch up with them.

Three is a Magic Number

Three is a magic number,
Yes it is, it’s a magic number.
Somewhere in the ancient, mystic trinity
You get three as a magic number.
The past and the present and the future.
Faith and Hope and Charity,
The heart and the brain and the body
Give you three as a magic number.
It takes three legs to make a tri-pod
Or to make a table stand.
It takes three wheels to make a ve-hicle
Called a tricycle.
Every triangle has three corners,
Every triangle has three sides,
No more, no less.
You don’t have to guess.
When it’s three you can see
It’s a magic number.
A man and a woman had a little baby,
Yes, they did.
They had three in the family,
And that’s a magic number.
3-6-9, 12-15-18, 21-24-27, 30.
3-6-9, 12-15-18, 21-24-27, 30.
Multiply backwards from three times ten:
Three time ten is (30), three times nine is (27),
Three times eight is (24), three times seven is (21),
Three times six is (18), three times five is (15),
Three times four is twelve,
And three times three is nine, and three times two is six,
And three times one is three of course.
Now take the pattern once more:
Three! . . .3-6-9
Twelve! . . .12-15-18
Twenty-one!. . .21-24-27. . .30
Now multiply from 10 backwards:
Three time ten is (30 – Keep going), three times nine is (27),
Three times eight is (24), three times seven is (21),
Three times six is (18), three times five is (15),
Three times four is twelve,
And three times three is nine, and three times two is six,
And three times one…
What is it?!
Three!
Yeah, That’s a magic number.
A man and a woman had a little baby.
Yes, they did.
They had three in the family.
That’s a magic number.

Uh…..simply put……my beloved NY Mets just suck.

“Uh…..simply put……my beloved NY Mets just suck.”
Yes, they sure do, and it pains me every bit as much as you to have to admit it.

You have to love Greg Prince. He he also had some choice words for Wright and the Mets on the Utley slide. You go Greg.
I thought this the best of all though:
As for R.A. Dickey, he could have pitched more effectively, but he had another MVP night when it came to offering analysis of why the Mets lost. Words and phrases R.A. used in a sentence as he stood by his locker answering questions:
• etiquette
• grotesque
• refined palate
• culture
• deem
• formidable
• Petri dish
• oblivion
• vortex
Granted, “that sure was a good no-hitter I just threw” would have sounded better than any of that, but barring unforeseen events like the Mets winning games the rest of the season, R.A. Dickey’s Every Fifth Day Impromptu SAT Prep Course is the best, last reason to stay tuned to this team.

Though I am not ready to anoint anything on Chapman yet with all of 9.2/IP in mlb.
It seems the early early early impressions are that the kid has a fastball.

HAH. How pitiful is that? Any team losing more games than it wins when allowing 3 runs should be demoted to AAA.

“Now THAT’s a f***ing surprise.”
