As the season comes to an end and we start looking back at some of the good that came out of 2010. There is no doubt that Ike Davis is near the top of the list of good things we can look back on this 2010 season.
So as we start to look ahead with hope for a better tomorrow for Mets fans the question becomes do the Mets have any other Ike Davis type young prospect like players we can look forward to in 2011?
Who do you think will have a shot at making the team and by next season’s end be talked about the way we do now of Ike Davis?
Will it be one of the following?
- Kirk Nieuwenhuis
- Jenrry Mejia
- Ruben Tejada
- Daniel Murphy
- Lucas Duda
- Josh Thole
- Reese Havens
- Dillon Gee
Maybe you have someone else in mind that I didn’t mention. If so let us know who you think it may be.

Well if they can just lose the rest of their games so they can get a top ten pick for next draft, they might be able to add another to that list. In a couple years anyway…
I don’t know if we’ll be talking about other guys like Ike but Thole sould/will have a good role next year and hopefully Gee. Nieuwenhuis may be another half season away (unless they dump Beltran).
Also I think Tejada is going to get a shot. He’s had a nice little run and I don’t think there is any reason to spend new dollars at 2nd for next season. Murphy might get a bench role but he is going to need to be strong out of the gate. One person that is not on your list is FMART. My feeling is next season is his last shot or he will be Escobar 2.0

F Mart is a sleeper. and still a whopping 21 YO guy. As in, younger than some 2010 draft picks (like Vaughn most likely).
Just let him go to the MiL ST camp, and send him to AAA on day 1. then forget about him, and let him play OF in Buffalo all year, unless he somehow busts out and forces is way up.
not a bad thing to have him spend a full year in AAA (and hopefully without any more DL trips!)

How would he force his way up?
Who’s he going to replace – Bay? Beltran? Pagan?
Unless there’s a major injury, FMart remains a coma-esque sleeper at best.

lot’s of ways. If Beltran gets traded or goes down, RF or LF could be up for grabs. Ditto if Pagan gets hurt or just falls apart.
with 3 OF spots and at least 2 of them question marks, there is likely to be opportunities at some point.
I wasn’t really implying that those 3 guys would all be playing well, but F Mart would be so phenomenal that he would still push one of them aside.
I still want my 4 man OF rotation in place, so maybe he could be that 4th guy at some point! Although my boy Duda is going to nail down that spot. Or play LF in Boston. something like that.

I guess I’m just cynical when it comes to FMart and the Mets. Just seems like they’ve given up on him from my perspective, which is admittedly a narrow-eyed one.

well, Thole certainly and to some extent Tejada are already starting ML players, so different catagory than Ike wa coming into 2010.
Duda is just a sept. call up, so I will leave him in the pool!
and being that DUda is my main man, I will go with him as the guy to step in and grab a job, with surprisingly good results.
But, my dark horse to do a true Ike (start in minors, get first taste early in the year by taking over immediately as a starter and keeping the job) is Havens. If he gets the back problem resolved, and can have a real off season of training/rehab, he could be primed for a monster start next year in the minors, and if 2B is a black hole, he will be up.

A lot of people share your hope on Havens stick. It would be interesting to see what he could do over a full season if he could stay healthy.

I agree with Stick. They guy with the highest ceiling would be Havens. Gee could be that guy, but I can’t see them going full bore with Gee (innings wise and such). The possibility of an opening at 2B plus his ability minus a little injury and viola!

Gee should be good for 200 innings he pitched about that this year I think.

I have absolutely no idea…given the fact that this team looks much different at the end of this season then it did going in. But I’ll take a shot at it.
D. Gee: I think he’ll get a good long look as the 5th starter. Heard a couple of his interviews here late this season and he seems to know what it’s going to take to succeed up here. I know talk is cheap but if his talent matches his ‘plan’, he’s got a good shot of making it.
I believe Nick Evans has a real shot to be the Tatis replacement going into ST. He can play LF, 1st and 3rd. Not sure about RF and heck…he even played CF for a few innings the other night. He’s got some pop in his bat as well.

Unless we trade Evans then he will be on the team as the Tatis guy. Can’t see us just letting him walk due to being out of options.

On another note, KB said on the pregame show tonight that there is no chance KRod will be pitching for the Mets next year. That’s no chance as in zero percent. He was pretty adamant about that.
So….look for a KRod trade. KB said he knows the Mets owe him a lot but they’ll be teams looking for an elite closer so they’ll be able to make that trade.
They then went on to discuss just who will be the closure then next year. Bobby O said Parnell has the stuff, he’s just got to develop that second pitch. I was only listening with half an ear at that point but I think it was KB who said he thought it should be Taka. Heck…I don’t even know if the Mets will have the opportunity to resign Taka.
This should be interesting….

live dangerously. Bring in as many live arms as possible, and let one of them win the job. Better than wildly overpaying again for a “big name”.

I can’t see being so sure about this. Assuming the arbiter doesn’t void the contract, then what? Will they eat the entire contract essentially by cutting him? Or heavily subsidize in a trade? No team is paying him close to what he will be owed (even without the option vesting), so something will have to give.

I’m sure our illustrious authors had very better things to do than watch this game.
Let me recap it for you:
Anyone who watched that entire 9 inning game deserves a prize.
One of the worst games I’ve seen this year.
My recap:
The offense sucked.
The defense sucked.
The BP really sucked
Only bright spot was Gee who only gave up 2 unearned runs.
Oh, and Green can turn in his uniform now. He had better not be in that BP next year.

Opps…should have read Gee only gave up 2 earned runs.
(and 2 unearned runs).

Why are they even asking Jerry about Gee’s chances to break the rotation next year?
2 points to Jerry for trying to answer these questions when he’s probably thinking something like ‘And you’d be asking me about this rotation next year..Why?’

I just figured out why these last two weeks have seemed worse than last year.
- Last year the season was written off early due to injuries, not just lack of talent.
- Last year Jerry and Omar was almost assuredly returning so the whole atmosphere was different before/during/after the games.
This year, with presumably the FO on down going as well as who knows how many players, the nails in the coffin are really loud with each game we get closer to the end of the season.

good way to think about it. anytime you have dead men walking it gets messy. And even odder to have a Gm and manager at the same time like this.
Hopefully, the new Gm makes additional major changes. Clean out the dregs of the patronage hacks clogging up the FO. Lean and mean baby!
