Thank You Readers and Closing Season Thoughts

I’d like to extend a huge “thank you” too all of RDMB’s loyal readers, authors, and commenters. You are all what makes Real Dirty the most intelligent and fun-loving Mets blog on the web. It’s been a pretty terrible baseball season for our Metropolitans, but it was made much more bearable by our great readers.

And finally, some closing thoughts on the season:

  • Let’s give Jerry a break. I’ve been the polar opposite of a Jerry-defender for the last couple of seasons, but now that he will (likely) no longer be making the on-field decisions for my team, I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. Bad manager for the Mets? Yes. Good guy? Absolutely. Good luck Jerry! I hope you find somewhere that fits you, which personally I believe will be in the form of a bench coach.
  • The same should be said for Howard Johnson. Terrible hitting coach? Probably. Respectable member of the World Series winning 1986 Mets? Definitely. Let’s not forget to always remember and respect our world series winners, so if HoJo leaves the organization (or is reassigned), I wish him all the best!
  • What a great season for a few players, namely Dickey, Davis, and Pagan. All three players surpassed expectations and could play a huge role in the future Mets. Not to be forgotten are Pelfrey and Niese who will hopefully lead the youth department of the starting pitching staff for years to come. Both gents had solid years which they can hopefully improve upon in 2011.
  • This is an exciting time to be a Mets fan! It’s been several years since we’ve felt that the team may be headed in a brand new direction. We have a chance to get rid of some of the…less useful roster players…and and cultivate several members of the exciting youth squad. Hopefully we get a GM with a solid long-term vision for the team, and a new manager who has baseball smarts and can light a fire under his players.

I hope you all stick around for this exciting off-season as the news flow is just beginning regarding changes for the Mets!

I’m not sure what makes Jerry out to be a good guy. He’s someone that has routinely sent his players off to the proverbial Siberia, never to be heard from again. I hope that things do go well for him and such, but good riddance to bad rubbish in my mind.

And yes, exciting times indeed (be it good or scary) with the potential seismic shift this team could be making shortly. Will Jeffy hand over the keys? Will he say “nah, I’m ok to drive” and wrap his blinged out Ford Focus around a telephone poll? Going to be many a post about what to do with Beltran, with Ollie, with Slappy, does O’dawg finaly wag his tale into Queens, will the kid pitchers be ready for the big time, will the new FO be able to scrape together a semblance of a full rotation and BP, and the list of what ifs, what may be’s, and arm chair GM’s ideas of how to do it will abound. I guess that’s better than figuring out what the hell Jerry’s doing with his latest lineup configuration…

OK I am going to say that I OFFICIALLY endorse Hunsicker for the Mets next GM.

;-) Notice that officially is n all caps so I must be serious. ;-)

      1. njstuckintx

I am with you, OFFICIALLY! :D

the problem with orlando hudson is that he’s a type A free agent.

I agree with all Prismo’s points – especially concerning Jerry. Misguided though he may have been, he’s not evil, he’s not stupid and he’s not without feelings.

Thanks to all those who joined me for every game in the Dugout. Hope to be debating all things Mets as we go into the Hot Stove with you all.

Let me tell ya my friend…THAT is friggin’ brilliant!

      1. njstuckintx

It could work, right? Get a closer back + maybe a MiL player or a BP guy.

Also, I didn’t expect the steel curtain to win today. but they should have. The future looks bright.

Seriously…Makes alot of sense in a ALOT of diff-ways.
The trio of REinsdorf,Williams&Ozzie are unaffraid on
          dealin for a guy kide KRod….His isn’t a drug-type problem….
          Ozzie is a fellow VZSer…Take from one who knows….THAT goes a LONG-way….Plus he’s goin to Chicago….They won’t
care about what goes on b/t him and his wife’s family…
Jenks, I believe is one yr out of FA..So he’ll get a one-yr fat
          Arb deal….And they’ve shopped him b/f , So…
          Steelers:…D was real solid again…It ain’t 76′S….But real good.
A little old but real good. Hard to run against Balt…No news there…BUT their NOT a great team…Good, But they’re not
the same team w/o Reed…..And Scott and Ryan.
Joe Skinny is still growing asa QB…And they’re line is not what is a was a yr or 2ago. Bottom line, God Bless Charlie Batch ….
BUT he can’t play/beat a good team…Let alone a very good team. Big Ben walks in the door after midnight, we’re 3-1,
The team is healthy, have a week off…AND we get Cleveland
next….THEN…at 4-1 the season starts as the leaves change.
          …………….Well…Not down there…….But still.

  7. GravediggerHebner

Nicely done. Now a little sarcasm:

Although the blog, like the Mets, has had it’s share of rough moments and perhaps finished the season below the expectations of some, we look forward to a new direction under new leadership with defined roles and a clear chain of command. ;-)

Grave…. You’re fired….. and rehired as vice-president of production. Nice work.

      1. GravediggerHebner

Uh oh – the dreaded reassignment.

        1. TRS86

Into a position that did not exist until your reassignment.
