If anyone is keeping a list I guess we can remove 4 names from the list of possible Mets GM’s.
Gerry Hunsicker (Tampa Bay Rays Sr VP of Baseball Operations) – Who in a article for Wall Street Journal said he “did not have a burning passion” in regards to being a GM again and that it would “have to be a very special situation.”
Dan Jennings (Florida Marlins asst GM), Larry Beinfest ( Florida Marlins President of Baseball Operations), Michael Hill ( Florida Marlins GM) – Whom the Mets were reported to have asked permission to speak to and are reportedly unlikely to be granted permission according to Clark Spencer the Florida Marlins beat writer for the Miami Herald.

certainly wont take long to weed down 32 to a short list (which it sounds like was already done, meaning they started this process a while ago), the reported 5-7.
and if these were 4 of them, they are down to 1-3 candidates to interview, so this process might not take that long after all!
Of course, if the dog and pony show is all a sham and Ricco already has the job as Jeffy’s boy toy, then we might have some ‘Splainin to do Lucy

I realize this is disrespectful to his loved ones but this reminds me that I was hanging with some friends when the news came that Desi Arnaz had passed away. One of my friends turned to the group and said “Luuuuucy, I’m deeeeaaad” and we all just laughed and laughed.
So uh thank you for the laughter Mr. Arnaz.

They asked my wife permission but she told them no way and demanded that I get back in the kitchen.

my wife wants me out of the house, so I am sure she would give the thumbs up. So why haven’t they called?
Probably afraid I would try to hire TRS as an asst. GM. That must be it.

LoL Now there is a funny thought. I can just see you 2 running the show. There would be a ban on all media that has ever written a negative comment about the Mets.
Which would result in a media boycott for violating their right to exprss themselves.
Followed by Case being hired as part of the defense team.
All the while Prismo would provide the exclusive Court Day weather and 4D would work for Case using her Govt connections to get dirt on everyone in the media.
Then Rusty would scour the net on blogs and podcasts promoting how this is all a conspiracy by the media that are pro Yankees and he would challenge Francesa to a debate who said he was an idiot to say so in the tweeternet.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

from rubin: “Marlins assistant GM Dan Jennings remains in play for the Mets GM job despite a report earlier in the day he had been denied permission to interview, ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick reports. Jennings has a short list of teams for which he may interview without the Marlins’ consent, and the Mets are included on that list, according to a source.”
Isn’t this fun? I love the off season stuff, but just want this part of it over quickly.

I never saw that he was denied permission just that it was unlikely they would grant permission.
In fact this is good investigating cause it turns out after some further investigating it is found that Jennings has a clause that allows him to interview without Marlins consent.

I don’t remember exactly what the piece on it I read said, but I thought it was clear that the Marlins denied permission.
who knows, but he certainly doesn’t qualify as any kind of heavy hitter in my book.
I still like the 2 headed “monster” idea. big guy can work on reforming the owners and rebuilding the organization while the young buck GM can grind through the talent.

You may be correct as far a what you read somewhere but the reports today that I saw that referenced Clark Spencer’s tweet never said it was official just unlikely.

I saw it too Stick, saw it all over twitter earlier today. Tweets definitely saying the Marlins denied the Mets from interviewing Jennings.

it seems like these tweets and blog entries spread like Kudzo. And like a game of telephone, sometimes the message shifts as it goes along the line.
So entirely possible it started as assuming they would deny, and became likely to deny, and ultimately did deny.
no biggie anyway. talk to who they can, and who knows how high up the wish list he is.

From Metsblog:
According to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, the Marlins will not give the Mets permission to speak with for Larry Beinfest, Michael Hill or Dan Jennings, as all are under contract through 2015.

Hi folks. Should be an entertaining offseason here at Real Dirty. Hopefully the Mets get the right people for the job. I’d love Terry Ryan, a guy who built the Twins’ farm system and transformed the team from a small-market, nearly contracted also-ran to a powerhouse organization. His focus on developing players is something we need here with the Mets. If not Ryan, someone of that ilk. Let’s make the crappy longterm free-agent signings of questionable vets (Castillo, Ollie, etc.) a thing of the past.
Anyway, I’ve been working on something over at my blog. Putting together a postseason report card for the 2010 Mets. First installment is done. Feel free to weigh in with your thoughts/grades.
