This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty : The ” Why Should I Bother ? ” Edition

Well I just got back from my three day Mets related sabbatical in Atlantic City. I ate alot ( if you love BBQ check out Corky’s in the Tropicana) and gambled a little ( came out ahead). But unfortunately I could not escape the talons of post season baseball no matter how hard I tried.
On Wedensday night while I was taking advantage of the buffet at Caesars, I had the unfortunate luck of having a table full of Phucking Phillie Phans ( decked out in those butt uglyhats and jerseys mocking me in my Mets shirt, rubbing in the perfect game that Roy Halliday had just pitched. So after a hour or two of blackjack the Mrs and I head back to our deluxe suite ( gotta love free upgrades) where I unfortunately saw the Twins cough up a potential first game win against a ineffective C.C Sabbathia . Add insult to injury last nights Yankee win in which I could swear the umpires were on the Yankees payroll and voila – three short days that were supposed to be relaxing and quiet turned into me ranting and raving to the joy of the multitude of Yankee and Phillie caps that filled the boardwalk. So how did this relaxing pleasant sojourn down the Jersey Shore end? That’s right folks I heard the first twenty minutes of Mike Francessa’s monologue – a open love letter if you will to Andy Pettite ! That’s right the man who was forced to admit he took HGH illegally , threw his father and his friend Roger Clemens under the bus – AND STILL IS REGARDED AS A SAINT IN YANKEE LAND !!!!

" I can dream !"

OH SCREW IT – HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!

The New York Mets released middle reliever, Satoru Komiyama on October 8, 2002.

Damn I wish Mo Vaughn took P.E.D.S instead of Mc.B.L.T.S!!!

Obviously this advice is too late but if your goal is to avoid Phillies and Yankees fans I think Atlantic City might be the worst possible place to go (short of Hell, but I know you don’t believe in that). Next time perhaps CT casinos where at least you have the chance of commiserating with some Red Sox folks, or go all in and head to Vegas.

I wish I could – my wife had a conference

Sorry to hear that Rusty. Love Atlantic City and sounds like what I’m describing as a bad start to post season just followed you everywhere.
And yeah, these umps have just been brutal so far.

I’m with Grave – I love Foxwoods up there in CT. Still too close to Philly land though so probably would have seen many of those.

At least the Reds have come out swinging tonight so far….

LoL Rusty I feel for you. My daughter says down at Rutgers she feels like she is already behind enemy lines. Hardly everyone she encounters is a Phillie or Yankee fan.

    1. Mr North Jersey

should of said mostly not hardly my bad.

      1. stickguy

a friend of my son is at Rutgers, and he is a Braves fan. I imagine he is relatively unique in that aspect.

    2. Prismo

You did? Sorry I have to of missed it then.

I just cant wait for the day I don’t have to see feature images that are stretched out beyond their limitations.

        1. rustyjr

Lol congrats on the mattsblog bump

          1. Mr North Jersey

            Thx dude.

Yankee fans would embrace the Unibomber if he won a couple of games in the post season.

And try living 20 minutes away from CBP, with only Philly stations on the local TV, for seeing/hearing Phillies 24/7. Except on Sunday’s when it is all eagles.

But, at least the Yankees are mostily irrelevant (and now hated) down here.

    1. rustyjr

Yeah there were only Philly stations in my room – it was hell

      1. GravediggerHebner

        4 channels:

WPHN – 24 hour feed of Phillie Phanatic

WCHS – Shows about Cheesesteaks being made and or eaten

WPZL – Shows about Pretzels being made and or eaten

WROC – All the Rocky movies being shown repeatedly in succession

    Go Reds!.

I dont know dude. I work in downtown manhattan and the day of that parade was a mess. I was pulling into the subway station at 7:45AM and there were already people wearing the #28, being obnoxious, and igniting my envy. I cheered for them last year against Philly. Ui can’t do that again.

      1. Prismo

Wow, I feel like I haven’t seen you in at least a year?

  7. metsfan4decades

And Howard out on a swinging 101 mph fb by Chapman.

Meanwhile, right before Utley gets his obligatory hit by a pitch on a 100mph fb. Lunatic…..

    1. stickguy

      stop watching. Don’t torture yourself.

    2. theresalways10

We didn’t want chapman. We had Maine and Ollie! No room for a young lefty with filthy, raw stuff. Not when you have a dependable liar like John Maine.

  8. metsfan4decades

Just wow…..4 errors and it’s not even over yet.

When did the Reds start playing like the Mets?

    1. stickguy

I hate the Phillies. though you may have none that.

But, at least my daughter is keeping the faith. She wore her official (as in, bought at the time) 1986 WS sweatshirt to HS today. She apparently got some grief for it!

      1. theresalways10

        +86 for your daughter

  9. stickguy

just watched the local news. Mostly Phils related (as expected). But the big issue for them was how the yankees are already planning the parade for after they win the WS, and it really seems to be ticking philly people off!

Yes, they are already making plans to be in the series with the yanks again.

  10. stickguy

actually interesting playoffs, if SF keeps the big lead they jumped out to (and I did expect SF to easily handle Atl), all 4 series will be sitting at 2-0.

I wonder how close it has ever come to having all 4 series be sweeps? If nothing else, it would be funny to see the networks have a week long gap before they had any more games to air!

  11. gategem

LOL Rusty, if you want to vacation from all things Mets then you don’t wear the Mets merchandise. When you see the Yankees and Phillies fans you casually ask them how they can root for a bush league sports containing mostly wimps. You tell them that the typical baseball player is out for the season with an ingrown toenail. You casually mention that the sport is laughable where one team spends $400 million and buys all the toys. You follow that by telling them that such nonsense doesn’t occur in the NFL, a real league, a man’s game, where teams win because of shrewd front office drafting and coaching. Mention to the Phillies fans that both the Jets and Giants laugh at the Eagles whose qb has sex with dogs. The Yankees fans undoubtedly root for the Giants so tell them the Jets have taken over NYC.LOL

BTW the matchup for the Yankees was perfect. The Twins are their cousins or patsies as you will. All the Yankees have to do is throw their caps out on the field and the Twins choke. The Twins have lost eight straight playoff games to the Yankees over three postseason appearances.

Texas had some success against the Yankees this year but I fear they lack post season experience and will cower in the Yankees presence. Their only hope would be if Cliff Lee can win his games. TB would have been a better matchup against the Yankees but they have “spit” the bit so far.

Ya know I love ya brother but, bwahhahhlloll. lol. Oh man I hate to have this belly laugh at your expense but this post is painfully funny. Gotta shake it off, rub some dirt in the wound and move on. Why would you do this to yourself and engage those idiots. A #1 fan rating for you wearing the Mets colors to AC but man that’s just askin’ for misery. Kudo’s. Lastly, I guess you missed the 1970′s style Ump Blocker Pad monument out in monument valley. The boys in the Bronx do seem to get their share of calls but in fairness they butchered the flyball out against the Yanks the night before. Difference is Yanks didn’t fold like a cheap suit like the Twinkies did.
